12 weeks since my surgery and I am in one-der-land. Haven't been at a weight below 200 in over 25 years!
I was on a vacation last week and we did a lot of walking. I did not have access to a scale during that time. So came back to find that my weight had dropped to 196.

I am 61 and just had sleeve surgery in May because I want to live actively and be able to move without pain for whatever number of years that I have left. So far down over 25 pounds and feeling great. That said, Surgery is not necessarily the answer for everyone. Research all your options.

Thanks Kathy. Yes my weight has continued to go down. A bit more slowly but that's okay. This past week I went shopping for some new clothes and got a size 12 pair of jeans and 2 size medium tops!!! I really can't remember the last time I wore sizes like that but over 30 years ago at least! I'm feeling good and happy with my decision.

I am nearly 5 months out from my surgery (sleeve) and have an under active thyroid. I take synthetic thyroid medication daily. My starting bmi was 38. I am now down 50 pounds with a bmi of 30. Weight loss has slowed but I am still losing. I eat 800-1000 calories per day and walk for an hour or more nearly every day. I work out with a trainer ( mostly strength training) a half hour twice each week. I am feeling great!

helenpgh reacted to reree6898 in A Year Already....My Story (w/Pictures)
Today marks one year since I had my sleeve done. This year has really just gone by so quickly and my life has changed so much in the last year. A year ago today I was 319 lbs and wearing a size 26/28 in pants. I didn't have any real medical issues yet but I knew it was just a matter of time before they would start. I was getting to be on the border of high blood pressure and I knew that I would also likely end up diabetic within a few years if things didn't change. My joints were hurting all the time and my back would spasm with pain. I had thought about having surgery for a long time but prior insurance wouldn't cover it and I had no way to pay out of pocket for it. I changed jobs a few years ago and found that it would be covered finally. I saw my surgeon for the first time in July of 2015 and was sleeved September 28th, 2015.
In this year I have lost 157lbs and as of this morning weigh 162lbs and wear a size 10/12!!!! I have had many other changes and challenges this year that have tried to sabotage my success but through it all I have had to keep reminding myself that I have to do this for me and that I have to keep doing what I know is right and will carry me through and keep me healthy.
    My stats are as follows:
    Heaviest weight ever: 376lbs
    Surgery weight: 319lbs
    Current weight: 162lbs

That first stall is the worst. At least it was for me because I had failed in so many previous weight loss attempts that my confidence that the surgery would work for me was low. But after 2-3 weeks the scale started to move again. After the first 2 weeks after my surgery when I was on Clear Liquids only and lost 20 lbs. I am now losing an average of 1-2 lb per week. After 8 weeks I am down 28 lbs and weigh less than I have in 26 years!

Just checking in. It's been 10 months and I'm down 102. 60 more to go. I've been kind of static for a few weeks. I have gotten lazy about tracking. Starting tomorrow I'm back to that. I have to keep track so bad behaviors don't become bad habits again. I'm 65 and really happy that I had the gastric sleeve 11/18/15.

When I graduated from high school I was a size 13 and thought I was fat. Now 26 years later, I am in a size 14 pants and I couldn't be more thrilled. 99 pounds gone and healthier than I was in high school. just over 2 weeks until I run a 10 mile race! (my first - although last weekend I ran more than 11 miles) Happier and more self confident than ever.
I even started teaching again this week. (I left teaching 9 years ago, not related to my weight, but...the time was right and I am now teaching ESL once a week. Can't believe how much I missed it.) I'm not sure I would have had the confidence or energy to try teaching after working a full day if I had even thought about it a year ago. I even interviewed last week on the phone for a more teaching focused position. I am just waiting to hear if I am being asked back for a second interview. Getting the job would mean moving 150+ miles to a small town, albeit near where I graduated from high school, and essentially starting over. The thought thrills me! I've stayed in the job I have now for 4 years, about 2 longer than I should have, because it was safe, but now...
Is this all related to my WLS? No, but do I have the confidence and energy to even pursue these big dreams because of the surgery? Yes, most definitely.

helenpgh got a reaction from katie09/21/2016 in Still stalled - and hungry. Where's the magic weight loss i was promised?
Hang in there. Maybe you are getting hungry because of your high level of activity? I kind of got that you were not excited about having to do such a high level of activity every day like you previously had to do on diets past. If that is true (maybe I misread that) see what happens if you just do an hour a day of fun activity? Think of this as a lifestyle change maybe and try to develop something that you want to live doing the rest of your life. Weight will come off. Different people lose at different rates for various reasons. Your body has just gone through quite a shock and needs time to recover. Be patient with yourself and think about the long game. I know that my first stall lasted a couple of weeks and I was convinced that I was going to be the 'exceptional' case where the surgery didn't work. I am now 12 weeks out and down 40 lbs. and I am 61 yrs old with hypothyroid. I walk around 1 hour per day and do strength training 2 x per week for half hour each. Hang in there!
