  1. I'm not sure about caffeine. My surgeon expressed its the acid that's the real culprit. The ulcer issue isn't the kind caused by bacteria either.

That's what I am trying to say. Caffeine or Decaf are both acidic so it doesn't matter if you are drinking decaf... it's the acid that is the culprit

  2. I do not drink soda, hot Decaf tea yes (which I understand decaf is never completely caffeine free) I have never had an ulcer or think I am prone to one. 27 yrs old 210lbs. 5.5"

Just thinking about how much smaller our stomachs are would make me think (to much) caffinated or even decaf may cause some issues down the road

  3. The thing about drinking acidic beverages is that you think you're "fine" until you are no longer "fine" and then it's too late. Sometimes it's years before you know. There's a thread here from sometime last year from a nurse whose brother rotted his stomach with diet soda and by the time he discovered it he had developed bad ulcers. When you have so little of a stomach left, an ulcer can be a life threatening.

Exactly my point. It's not like someone has had the sleeve for such a long period of time seeing it is still considered "new". Maybe the effects don't happen until 5-10 years down the road... Thanks for the response

  4. I have seen a lot of people talking about drinking coffee. Some even say they drink caffinated coffee.

I have always been fine with drinking Decaf since I had my kids so close and felt like I was nursing for 2 years straight...

As per my doctor, his plan calls for NO COFFEE, even DECAF EVER AGAIN!!!

Something about the acidity and ulcers I believe.

What were some other people rules with coffee? Thanks

  5. Sleeved 11/17. Am down 17 lbs since then. Started 215, now 198.

Hello! I saw that we started at the same weight 215 lbs day of surgery. I will be one week out tomorrow and am currently about 210lbs. How has your weight loss been since starting at a smaller weight then most? Just curious... I know everyone is different! I am also a lapband to sleeve revision, so I have been told my weight loss may be much slower. THANKS

  6. Hello Everyone! I was sleeved on 1/25, so I will be one week out tomorrow! My food stages look like this (as per doctor and NUT)

    STAGE ONE- Clear liquids

*Day of and Day after Surgery

    STAGE TWO- Full liquids

*Day 3 until 2 week Post Op Appt

    (Surgeon will clear)

STAGE THREE- Soft Foods including... deli meats, steamed fished, eggs, Beans, melted cheese, dry toast, crackers, tuna, yogurt...

*2 weeks post op- 2 month post op Appt

    My question is...

Has anyone else had similar stages; time wise? I am happy to be able to start eating way more stuff next week, but I see most people post about being on Full liquid/purees for 4 weeks. Has anyone else started soft foods at 2 weeks post op?

  7. Great post with lots of information and assurance! I was sleeved on Monday the 25th and the first day home was absolutely miserable. As of yesterday, and even more so today I am feeling pretty good!!! Haven't needed to take any pain meds. Only struggling to get enough fluids in. Just focusing on that and resting so I do not over exert myself. Other than that, just a little sore on the incision sites (but that's to be expected) Goodluck and well wishes to everyone!!!!

  8. I had revision to bypass ....the first week you feel like you were literally run over by a car.It will slowly get better..,Revisions from the lapband is beyond tough! The surgery is much tougher than others...just the removal of the band is extremely tough.,,scar tissue etc.Thats why some surgeons won't do it all at once.I know your pain...please note the pain killers als cause headaches so don't be surprised.Hang in there....

Thanks for your response. I just feel puffy, sore and exactly like you said... like I got run over by a truck. I guess I am just even more defeated because I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. Definitely not pain free in any way, but also nothing Close to this amount of pain! :(

  9. Hello My friends!

I had my lapband removal and sleeve revision done on Monday around noon. I have been home since yesterday afternoon and sadly am not one of you who has been pain free. I was hoping I was going to be pretty "ok" especially since I have a high pain tolerance, am younger and felt like I really prepared myself. I feel like absolute death! :(

Sometimes it hurts to sip, hurts to breath, hurts to move, hurts to just be.... I know this will all pass, but I am just discouraged with the amount of pain I am in. I was sent home with liquid Hydrocodone and am allowed to take 10 ml every 6 hours... I have been using gas X pills as well. They seems to help (a little) when first taken, but definitely only about 1-2 hours long out of the 6 hour time frame. Hope everyone is well. Just focusing on getting myself better

  10. Thank you so much for your reply. I may be able to get some help during the day. I guess my main worry would be a leak if picking up my littlest. I am very nervous about that!!!!

Someone will have them for seven full days, but then after that I will have them during the day time until my husband gets home as well. I may be able to get a relative to come help out during the day...

  11. Hello everyone!

I am having a lapband to sleeve revision this upcoming Monday 1/25.

I have two children ages 2.5 and 1 years old. The one year old does not currently walk.

My mom will have them at her house for a week after the surgery. (7 days)

After that she is unavailable to help.

My question is for people specifically with little kids/babies.

How long after sugery could you start to do things? I am very nervous and anxious as to what will happen. Thanks

  12. I'm 26 and having Surgery in 11 days. My insurance will cover a Tummy Tuck and boob lift so the only concern I have was my arms. They aren't fugly right now but as soon as I start to lose weight I want to make sure I'm building muscle in the arms to offset the flab!

    Good Luck!

We are also close to the same weight so if you ever want to chat let me know!

What insurance do you have that covers a boob lift and tummy tuck? That's great :)

  13. With the revision I know it is a one night stay. My question is, who (if anyone) stayed the night with you? Did someone just drop you off and come back and pick you up the next day? We live approx 1.5 hours away from the hospital and I am just wondering what others, who have had to travel have done. Thanks

  14. I had my lapband since January 2013. I had major complications due to slippage and I had it replace. I still had major complications so my insurance approved my revision. I had my surgery done in one day. My scar tissue was minimum considering I was banded twice. It's definitely the surgeon's preference whether it will take two surgeries. I didn't want two surgeries so I found a surgeon who was willing to do it in one. If I had major scar tissue then two surgeries would be needed. I was sleeved December 22, 2015 and I must say I feel wonderful

That's awesome! :) How has your weight loss been? CONGRATS

  15. I wasn't really a "low" 200's, but I started my pre-op diet the week before surgery at 237 and went into surgery at 228. I hit my goal of 129 at 18 months and have maintained within a few pounds up and down for the last 10 months. I weighed 153 when I went into my first plastics surgery (which is why I remember that number specifically) which was about 2 weeks before my one year sleeve surgiversary.

The sleeve works since basically you are cutting out 80% of your stomach. You can learn to eat around it though. For example, I can eat a whole box of Wheat Thins in a few hours, so whether you lose or not is largely up to the habits you keep.

    Are you a revision?

  16. There are LOTS of revisions who met goal and even beyond on this forum. Hoping they chime in :)

I'm not a revision, but at 5'5" started at 235 and now weigh 140, 10 pounds below my goal of 150.

Congrats Babbs! We are pretty similar. How long did it take you to lose the weight? I am also hoping revisions chime in! It seems that we tend to lose slower!

  17. Hello Everyone. I have my revision from lapband to sleeve scheduled for the 25th of this month. I am currently 220lbs, 5.5" and plan on being around 215 lbs the day of surgery.

My question is, will the sleeve help me reach my goal of 150 lbs. I have seen a lot of posts of lower 200's not loosing very much with the sleeve (when it is a revision). Looking for personal experiences and insight! Thanks

  19. So when your band has slipped, for example, they don't condone revisions? Personally I felt confident going to a surgeon who had performed many band to sleeve revisions.

I believe what he meant was since I have not had a slip, or something medically go wrong with my lapband he doesn't want others to feel they can come in and get revised. I personally have had a hard time with finding a sweet spot and it's always toot tight or too open. I believe after having my babies everything got moved around. I have been successful with the lapband, but am so ready for it to be gone!

  20. I would like to know what some stats of everyone's surgeons were?

I asked mine how many revisions he has performed. And out of all of them, how many were done in one procedure. His answer was,

"These revisions are rare, I have done half a dozen, same as my partners. Almost all of them we did at the same time."

He is the head surgeon at a top bariatric hospital in my region, and has performed hundreds of sleeves, but now I am aware only half a dozen revisions.... He informed me that the hospital he works for does not like to condone revisions. Just because they don't want people to feel as if they can just get them whenever. My surgery is scheduled January 25th. Thanks friends! :)
