Sajijoma got a reaction from LaLa Ladybug in Questions about postop for pending 7/13 RNY Gastric Bypass
While I was up and moving around those first few days after surgery, the part that killed me was the fatigue. I would nap and often. I needed to have someone around to watch after the kids and make dinner and stuff. If someone offers help, take it. If they make you more miserable, just ask them to leave.

At a year out, I was where I still am actually at 1100 calories a day. I still eat the same as I did the first year: Protein first, veggies second, any room left over for the starch. I still take most of my dinner home when we eat out, or sometimes I'll get one meal and split with my 3yr old since he's always found mine more tasty anyway. Haha as far as my approach, I've learned over the past year that if I don't get enough carbs in my diet, then I stall out and go nowhere. That doesn't mean I eat chips and cake, but I do work in healthy grains and occasionally bread to keep losing. I try to keep them at about 70g per day and my protein around 80-90g and my fats at around 40g mostly in the form of avocados, olive oil, and nuts. It's kind of a process to learn what works for you vs what the standard operating procedure says to do.

I haven't updated pics in awhile so....gonna do that now.
To answer the question when will you feel better, it's hard to say. For me, I had the foaming thing once and it was because I was not sipping my Water constantly like I was told to, and when I got to carrying around my water bottle everywhere and sipping as I went, that went away. I still carry my water bottle everywhere I go. I'd be useless without it.

For me, the few months were kinda low. It was around month 3-6 that things really got going. Just be patient. For the first few months of solids I couldn't handle a whole 1/4c of food. It took a long time before all the swelling was down and it was comfortable to eat and drink. Try taking really small sips. Don't try to take a normal sized drink because you can't. It will hurt and you will be miserable, but it'll also cause damage to your healing body. Tiny sips. I used to have a 4 oz measuring cup and I'd fill it with Water or my Protein Drink and set a timer for 15 minutes and slowly take tiny sips til it was gone. At first I couldn't make the 15 minute timer, but over time I could. Now at a year and a half out, I have no problems whatsoever drinking. The hardest part about life after surgery is learning to just slow down. Slowdown eating, slowing down drinking, and just learn not to try to rush through life because this is a long journey and you are still at the beginning. You will get there.

It's a long process and it will take a long time. I started off at 429lbs. Surgery day I was like 386? Something like that. At my 1 yr appt I was 225lbs I'm currently 1yr and 7 months out and I'm 190lbs. I'm not where I want to be, but it's a long ass way away from where I started and that's really where you find he comfort. That you are so far away from where you started that even if you never lost another pound, you'll be happy and able to live a normal life and do all the things you want. I made a list when I started my journey of things I wanted to accomplish like no seatbelt extenders, shopping in regular size clothes dept, sitting in a chair without knowing the weight limit, going on the swings/slide at the park without fear of getting stuck or breaking it, etc. as I made those goals I checked them off. So far, my only one left is to climb a 14er, but I just tore out my shoulder after having recovered from tearing out my other one, so looks like it'll be another year for me before I can climb that mountain, but it's still my goal and so can't wait to check it off.

It probably is, but you may be just pushing it one step too far. Try stopping before you get that discomfort in your chest. Where you've eaten a bite and you just say, ok, the tightness isn't there yet, but I don't feel the same as I did when I started eating, so I stop. By the time you get that pain, you are overfilled and that's why it's uncomfortable. Also, if you do have that feeling, put your hands over your head and walk around, it helps it go away faster!

I've been using the Patches to supplement my Bariatric Advantage multi and calcium chews because my Iron and calcium/D3 were both low. Also have been using the glucosamine/chondroitin patch and the anti aging patch because I got a better deal buying a set so I thought, eh what the heck. I got my labs back and have seen a remarked improvement in my deficiencies so far after a month of use.

You have lost almost 30lbs in 7wks. Do you know how amazing that is?!? Do you think you could have lost that much just dieting on your own without the surgery? Probably not. I know I couldn't have. I had to fight to get off what I did and keep it off. We all lose at different rates and activity level does play a major role in how fast it comes off, but you are doing great my friend. I know in the beginning there is the fear of failure and that it won't actually work for you, but it will! It did for me! I was 429lbs at my first appt. I'm 193 now and my surgeon says 30lbs of that is in excess skin that needs to be removed so it'll work! It takes time and sticking to the program and not stressing out. It just does it's thing while you do yours and together you get there in the end! [emoji4]

Just give it time, and keep trying things every once in awhile. For about the first year, I couldn't eat any kind of chicken or pork. I still can't eat pork, but I've improved over time to be able to eat chicken in certain preparations, but still not in all the ways i used to. It takes awhile for your body to learn to process Foods differently. In general, if something bothers you, wait a month or two and then try it again. Try it with a sauce, a marinade, or another preparation and see if it handles better.

Your body will go through stalls over time to sort of rest up and give you time to mentally catch up. If the stall goes on a long time, try mixing things up. Add more Protein or more fat to your diet or change up your exercise routine. Anything that is different can break a stall and bring on weight loss. Also you are reaching the point where your loss will slow down. You won't have the big jumps anymore, but you will have a slower more predictable loss like someone on a conventional diet would. I'm a yr and a half out now and my weight loss is like 2lbs a month if that. I'm not cheating my heart out, but things slow down the further out you get and you still have to stay on top of it.

Boobs way to big to go bra free, ever in life. Not wearing a bra is probably the most uncomfortable thing in the world for me.

You can still use Tylenol after rny. It's just NSAIDS you won't be able to use and honestly a lot of the pain that you would need to take pain meds for will go away as you lose weight. My Migraines were near daily events pre op and now it's down to a couple a month around the time my period shows up. My constant joint pain is gone and except for fevers, I don't even take Tylenol. The surgery will take away a lot of your discomfort and dependence on these things to get you through. It really depends on what you are comfortable with and what will be the best tool for you to lose weight and live the life you want to live. For me, rny was the way to go and if you have a substantial amount of weight to lose, you don't want to have to go back under the knife for revisions down the road. I wanted one and done and I am so glad I chose rny. It really helped me get to the cause of my obesity which was sugar addiction. By taking that variable out, I was able to get my mind around what I needed to do.

I was at or near 200 at 15 months out. It's been a slow few months because I have been recovering from a torn rotator cuff and couldn't do much. The further out you get the slower the weight loss goes. It still goes, just very VERY slow.

There's not a whole lot you can do. There are a lot of factors on the battle of the skin. How many stretch marks are on your skin, age, how many children a person has had, how fast they gained the weight and held on to it to begin with. For me, my whole childhood into adulthood I was morbidly obese and I've had 7 kids and stretch marks on my stretch marks. My skin is horrific. My doctor says I am carrying around about 30lbs of excess skin. It bothers me immensely, it makes finding clothes that don't show it harder, but I've put a lot of time in both trying to shape muscle under the skin for support and a lot of money in buying compression undergarments that minimize the appearance on the outside. The only thing I haven't found is some way to hide my bat wings now that it's tank top season. They are a true embarrassment for me having gone from well over 429lbs down to 190 now. I just cannot afford skin removal and I lost my insurance so I'm pretty much just trying to conceal and not reveal. Don't let the skin hold you back though. Even knowing that I have all this hanging skin, I would still do it in a heartbeat.

Sajijoma got a reaction from Newme17 in Popcorn.. when did you start eating it
I eat popcorn. For me, it is a super filler, and on days when I'm exercising extra hard, I need more carbs in my day so I will eat popcorn and I do fine. No adverse reactions except that I might not be hungry for the rest of the day if I eat it, so I may be forcing down Protein Shakes to get my minimum in.

I was lactose intolerant after surgery and for the first like 4 mo the or so. You can either attempt to use lactase tablets until it gets better, or You can try a non lactose form of Protein like Vega protein. It is a vegan protein as well. They carry it on Amazon in a 4pk. The chocolate is pretty good and contains no lactose. I didn't know about Vega when I was going through it so I basically lived off of Syntrax which was easier to digest and my NUT advanced me to puréed eggs early on so I could get more protein.
