I'm am x ray tech at a trauma center and I haven't been sleeved yet but my surgeon told me 6 weeks because of the lifting I have to do. And as far as how to take time you can take time under FMLA if you are a full time employee. Also depending on how long you're off there is short time disability. Be careful going back too early. You don't want to get hurt or end up sick. Also if you get busy drinking and staying hydrated is super important. It may also be difficult to have the energy required to work shifts if you're in the early stages as well.

I am a Respiratory Therapist working 3 nights a week and I was sleeved one month ago. I had my surgery on Monday 9/14 and took two full weeks off, then scheduled myself for Thurs-Fri-Sat of the third week in the NICU, so I wasn't going to lift much...It worked out well, but if you get busy drinking will be a problem, it still is for me... Also, I went to Catherines and bought two of the Spanx type cami's. I wore one from the night of surgery all through recovery... IT HELPED SO MUCH!!!! It provided support for my surgery sites and makes it easier to move around, not to mention it is flattering. Good Luck!!!

Miz.Phenom reacted to Elode in 4 week low carb diet....everything I love has carbs
Eat clean. Fish is good. Green leafy vegetables. Stay out of the center isles whenever possible at the grocery store. Shop the outside. If you look at the layout of most grocery stores all the processed junk is on the inside isles. The outside is where you find most whole foods. Fresh meats, veggies, dairy, fruits and eggs. I try to get all my foods on the outside! Research good and "bad" carbs. There is a huge difference. For example avocado they are higher in carbs and fats but they are healthy carbs and fats. Processed foods are for the birds! Learn to substitute recipes that you like, I do that all the time. If you like potatoes make mashed cauliflower instead. If you like pizza make it with a chicken crust or cauliflower crust instead. Make kale chips or turnip fried. There are so many things you can make to mimic the foods you enjoy you just have to research what you like.

So this is my first post but I have been on this site since the beginning. Reading other peoples stories gave me hope and courage. My story is kinda boring but I really wanted to put it out there as a thank you to all the unnamed who have helped me without knowing. So my story starts like most everyone else. I have been overweight for years. I had been teased and laughed at for a long time. I laughed and joked about my weight also but it was just covering up the pain I felt. I used to eat my depression away. I used to put fast food on credit cards so my wife wouldn't see the charges on our joint account. I had been thinking about surgery for a few years before I made the leap. My final straw was when I got into a verbal argument with a coworker at a work gathering and she made loud remarks about my weight. It was hurtful and I was so mortified. Im not sure why though, everyone can see me. They all know I was overweight. She didn't let a secret out to everyone. But it was what I needed. I started off by talking to a doctor about my options. We decided the sleeve was the way to go. I started my 6 months of doctors visits that seem to take forever because of the excitement. Some visits I lost a few pounds, Some visits I didn't. My first weigh in I was 364 pounds. Jan 13 2015 was my surgery day and I was down to 345 pounds. The surgery went great but there was some pain during the waking up process. The nurse was quick with the pain meds so it didn't last long. I was in the hospital for 1 night and went home the next day. The first 3 weeks I lost 33 pounds and was ecstatic! I then gained a few pounds and started questioning my decision. I thought all the weight was just going to fall off. I thought at this rate I will hit my goal of 240 pounds in 3 months! When I was going to my check ups I explained my disappointment to my doctor and she told me thats what she wants to see. Drop a little then level off. Then drop a little and level off. So once I got that through my thick scull, I looked forward to the platues. It was my bodies way of saying this is working. I started walking more. I started riding my bike 1 lap around our local 5 mile lake. Then I started to do 2 laps then 3. We bought a kids trailer so that I could pull my 2 kids around with me. I started eating right and getting in as much Protein as possible. I did have to set a reoccurring timer on my cell phone for 15 min to help remind me to drink when I was at work. That helped a lot. Once I got into the habit, I just started drinking all the time. My body started to feel better. My feet stopped hurting. My back pain went away. So to make my long story a little shorter Jan 13 2015 I was 345 pounds. On Aug 6 I hit my goal of 240 pounds. So a little over 6.5 months. I have since started doing crossfit to build some muscle and tone up a bit. I am currently at 233. I would like to be around the 220 to 225 mark I think. But I can not express how happy I am! This was truly one of the best decisions of my life. 2 weeks ago the family and I went to the beach and I took my shirt off for the first time in I can't remember how long. I just donated 3 hefty bags of clothing to goodwill. My favorite feeling I had during this whole thing is when I was losing weight, I had to by smaller close which I just awesome! But thats not the best part. A few months later when I had to look at those close I just bought that I thought I looked great in and see how big THEY had gotten was awesome! To anybody who is overweight and might be trying to decide if this is what they want, do it! Don't wait any longer. If your worried about the extra skin, don't! It's way easier to tuck in a little extra skin then an extra 131 pounds. So thats my story. Thanks again for all the help ladies and gentlemen! You are all awesome!

Sorry, I have no advice, but that blows. You should get a free pass on pimp-slapping that worthless piece of crap for as many times as you'd like.
Manipulative, petty, low-class heifer. I'm very sorry you had to be subjected to such a spineless piece of garbage.

I eat healthy and I'm at the gym 4 to 6 days a week. I have become a gym rat....All true statements.
Its your choice to disclose your surgery...i hate to see people tear you down because you are succeeding. If they can't be supportive...Might be time to distance the relationship and move on.

Miz.Phenom reacted to Jorge A in Will I ever be able to eat Pizza again?
I've heard that some just cannot process the bread in the pizza, Burger and such. Me on the other hand, was able to eat pretty much anything at about 6 months out. I do mean anything, including donuts and Mexican sweet bread and chips and fig newtons and all that unhealthy stuff.
Then I realized and questioned why I was so determined to go back to the foods that made me obese in the first place. So now, even though I know I can eat that stuff I "usually" don't. " USUALLY".
The best of luck and good wishes to you.

I have the same fears. I was sleeved on 10/14 and am hoping that being young is going to help my skin bounce back (I'm 26). I have been overweight my whole life though, so we'll see what happens.
I'm trying to focus on my HEALTH, and not necessarily on how I will look after. It's more about how you feel ????.
Also, I'm determined to be with someone who loves me for me, regardless of how I look. I just started dating someone one week before surgery, so we'll see if he sticks around throughout this process lol

I'd rather have loose skin, look hot in skinny jeans and OK nekky than have fat filled flesh, be unhealthy, look/feel uncomfortable in my clothes and look like the Pillsbury Dough Boy nekky.
    Just sayin!

they are expensive and when i tried 2 different flavors , both times i thought the bag they came in tasted better than the chips...If you need chips i'd recommend the edamame chips from trader joes, or the Maya Kaimal chickpea chips, especially the sea salt ones, oh my are they good, and with some fresh salsa, can be good for you as well and fill that snack urge. But chips are also my big weakness, i have developed an addiction to bbq flavored Pork rinds. They go amazingly well with hummus.

Mission brand makes a great low carb tortilla. White or wheat, white is great! I'm pre-op but have followed a low carb diet for some time. Great substitute for bread also.

I started eating tortillas at about a year out. At 2 1/2 years out, I can only eat 1/3 8" tortilla or 1/2 of a standard corn tortilla, but I still enjoy them regularly.
I'd much rather eat a bit of tortilla with meat and cheese over a roll or slice of bread. My restriction limits my portion tremendously, but I savor the small piece i do eat.

Yeah, you're way too early out to be thinking about tortillas now. But a few months down the road have corn tortillas. They are definitely better than the flour tortillas. You may also find they don't sit well in your tummy. They don't with me. Luckily. Lol.
