Welcome home. Breathing exercises and walking help with the burping and gas. Gas X strips too!

I did not hit those liquid and Protein levels the first days home. I tried and noticed my urine was brownish showing some dehydration, but as the days went on, I could drink more and chose only clear Protein Isopure with some broth with added powdered, unflavored Isopure.
Just do what you can those first days home, don't push it. After day 4 home, moving to Protein drinks and other non-Clear liquids like low sodium Soups, yogurts, cream of wheat, will help.
    Good luck!

Hey everyone! I had surgery Tuesday morning and it hasn't really hit me yet that I now have the sleeve. Has anyone else shared the same feeling? The first day after surgery was a little rough. Threw up some in recovery and in my room but I think I was trying to drink too much. Yesterday was much better and today even better. I'm still struggling with that uncomfortable feeling when I drink something and I'm walking as much as I can to eliminate the gas. Gas is the worst! Still have no idea how I'm going to drink 64 oz of liquids including at least 60 g of Protein. Any suggestions? Open to anything. Thanks in advance!

Hi Nikki, I had mine done on Oct 12 and today was my first full day at home. It's amazing how much better I felt in the hospital than I did today at home. I guess thats because they pumped me so full of liquid, pain, and nausea meds every 4 hours! I was able to walk around quite a bit at the hospital and have been burping / passing gas today. However, this morning was rough with gas pain and nausea. I was very sore and tired (I had two unexpected hernia fixes as well during my procedure).
sleep allows your body to heal, but I was told once I am up I need to move around and walk as much as I can and do different things as well (lifting up one leg at a time, side steps, etc) . That's the best thing I can say to you today. Best of luck and I hope you get everything you want out of this lifestyle change!

I think many of us have longed to be able to win that trophy! The early days are the ones where you doubt you sanity but it does get much, much better. You've got the right attitude - keep it up! Water, liquids and Protein - the combination to success!

Hey everyone! I had my sleeve done yesterday. Yesterday was a rough day with some vomit. Today is better with pain meds and sipping much slower as well as being able to hold some fluids down. They say the first day is the worst day so hopefully everything goes uphill from here. GAS IS NO JOKE AT ALL! WALK WALK WALK! I have never wanted to burp and pass gas so freakin bad! LOL! Watch this video. I am looking for this trophy to be mine next. I know it will help me feel so much better!http://youtu.be/U2J60QsaV1s

My surgery is tomorrow as well! At first it was scheduled for 2:30pm and then they moved it up to 9:30am!! YIKES! I immediately felt butterflies in my stomach. Not scared at all but just ready to get it over with. I'm making Jello in ice cubes now for when I get home. At least I'll have something to look forward to. Good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow! We are on our way!!????????????

Well I did the "beet test". I didn't plan on doing such a thing It just so happens I've been on a roasted beets and Brussels sprouts kick. I had a minor freak out session when I went pee and it was red. TMI, I know but it's for a purpose. Anyway I knew it wasn't blood so I started doing some research and found my answer. I have never had this happen prior to surgery. I would remember something like that! So It's a sign of low stomach acid and other things. I posted the article below. I don't know if I should be worried or not so I will ask my NUT about it . I find it pretty interesting though so I thought I would share. It's a natural test you can actually do yourself. Our bodies are just too cool! I think I'm going to start taking some Probiotics. Now, if there's a shortage of beets I will know why. You're welcome!

I'm so excited, I finally have my date. It's been a quite a journey, these past few months. I have been able to get rid of 40 pounds, since May. That has help make this process a bit easier. I didn't want to wait for the surgery to begin the process. I would love to hear from someone. Have a blessed day.

    No regrets.
I was never a big drinker before surgery, so I have never felt the need to drink to feel like I was enjoying life. I don't miss the occasional margarita, beer, or glass of wine that I used to have. You may be surprised how little you "need" alcohol to enjoy listening to your husband play.
I really don't miss eating junk. I don't miss the cake and ice cream that the rest of the family ate last night at our impromptu picnic. I did allow myself one crescent roll with butter, but it was after I ate my Protein and some vegetables.
For me, now that I have truly gotten the junk out of my system, I don't crave it and it doesn't appeal to me.

I also ended up with a sleeve that likes to make me barf whenever I eat anything with oil, fat, or sugar, which is not the norm. I would still get a sleeve again. Sometimes I eat a few bites of foods that I used to like and now I am perfectly content to just have those few bites. At a little over two years post-op, I don't really crave certain types of food anymore and for the most part I eat what I want to, just in much smaller sizes. For example, last night I had takeout with a friend. I ordered the kids steak with mashed potatoes. I hate about 1/3 the steak and half the mashed potatoes. It was yummy. I had no interest in eating any more of it and I tossed the rest out. Steak and potatoes is more of a pre-sleeve kind of meal, but so are a lot of things I eat every once in awhile. Once you get through the first few months, the rest of the process is much easier. There are days where I eat 1000 calories, but mostly I'm around 1500-1800 a day and I can maintain at my goal weight. Most importantly though, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. If I want a drink with dinner, I have one, although I'm not really a big drinker. If I want some cake, I eat a piece. I had a few Cookies on the 4th of July...it is now October and I haven't had a single cookie since. This isn't because I can't have one, but because I just really haven't felt any interest. Knowing that I can eat whatever I want whenever I want to and that I only need a few bites to be happy is a very freeing feeling.
So...at 25 months post-op, I am very happy with my sleeve decision.

I like the banana Isopure, I buy it from Amazon. I found that they seem to have the best price on it. I found most of the ready to drink ones have some carb and sugars where the Isopure does not. I think it is a better choice, and it tastes good too, big plus!

So to avoid uneducated comments I have decided to NOT inform certain people about my journey. For now Its my husband and kids(all for it, extremely supportive ), two best friends, and my insurance broker (she comes in handy) Who am I on the fence about and havent'told, my brothers and my parents. Why...........well, I can just hear it now. Everything everyone said in the above comments, and I don't need that now while I am trying to focus on myself for the first time in a long time. Sadly mom manages to make a situation that has nothing to do with her, about her. Don't get me wrong love her etc. but everyone elses situation magically becomes all about her. I do think my dad will be fine with it, I just am not ready. I need to stay mentally focused on what Im doing here. We all need to stay focused on ourselves. This is a major decision for all of us going through this. And the last thing we need are the nay sayers of the world giving us "mind frick" to shoot us down because of THEIR insecurities and failures. So for those who are just beginning this don't feel like you have to divulge everything about this, it is no ones business but your own.
    Surgery date is Oct 12th!
I'll let you know how it goes if I do tell them
