Loose jiggly skin -- what do I have to look "forward" to?

I've lost 150 and I do have a lot of loose skin. However, considering the amount of weight iost, it could look a lot worse. I've seen people who lost the about the same amount as me and their skin is worse than mine. I've never had an infection or rash. I can live with the skin below my neck. What bothers me is the skin on my face and neck. I've seen people to lose more weight than me and they don't have skin issues above the neck. Everyone is different and you never know how it's going to be until it happens. There are also other factors to consider such as age, genetics, pregnancy etc

    Heartburn

By heartburn do you mean acid reflux from your stomach or do you mean you had some burning in the back of your throat?
  3. I revised one week ago due to severe acid reflux. My understanding was my reflux would resolve immediately. However, that has not been the case. I'm not having the regurgitation of liquids. My main issue is my stomach being on fire all the way up to my throat. Even drinking water worsens the pain and it's constant pain. Can anyone shed some light as to why this is happening? I'm about to lose my mind.

    Common pitfalls

The average weight loss with the sleeve is 60% of ones excess weight. Again this is the average. Can you lose more? Sure you can. My surgeon states people who have wls have unrealistic expectations of how much weight they will lose, even with bypass. There are a lot of people who have reached their goal but it's not considered the norm. My surgeon says he considers one a success if they have lost 50-60% of ew in 18-24 months. If one develops GERD, many times they don't lose their weight and/or gain back what they did lose.
  5. I said 20 years ago if I could lose weight, I would still be unhappy. Now I've lost the weight, I find out I was right. However, things are definitely much better. My savior has been exercise. I hate to do it but I always feel better after I've finished. As previously posted, start exercising and see a therapist. It really will make a difference.

Question on revision vsg to bypass

I am very anxious to know how you do in the next few weeks. Please keep us posted. Sitting here having reflux right now and have been on a liquid diet for over a week. It feels like I drank a bottle of lighter fluid😥

Question on revision vsg to bypass

Thank you for your response. I can handle occasional reflux but I have literally been dealing with this reflux every day for over 2 years. I did have reflux prior to the sleeve but I also had a hiatial hernia so my Dr recommend the sleeve. I didn't want bypass anyway. I shutter to think I'm still going to have to deal with this on a regular basis, even with following the rules. I already have damage on my teeth due to the acid. Hopefully it will get better with time.

Question on revision vsg to bypass

Every insurance company is different, it may not be an issue with you at all. My doctor had to submit all kinds of documentation to get it approved.

Question on revision vsg to bypass

It only took an act of Congress to get it approved and the authorization ends soon so it will be here we go again next month!

Question on revision vsg to bypass

Thanks James. I am currently on Dexilant, carafate and zantac. I'm hoping it's just going to take some time to see significant improvement. I was expecting the reflux to go away immediately after surgery.

    Notifying work

Little Kansas kitty, I'm soooo jealous. My dream is to own a ragdoll (or 10) . I have two cats of my own and I'm feeding three stray cats so it's not an option now. I know a breeder locally but she has gone from $750 to $900 for her ragdoll kittens. Maybe one of these days 😸

    Biggest challenge in your journey

I'm on dexilant, carafate, zantac, and prevacid (OTC) and still have chronic reflux. I sleep sitting straight up. No alcohol, tobacco, spicy/greasy foods, caffeine, carbonation, etc. Currently waiting for revision to bypass

    Fibromyalgia and bariatric surgery

I am 2 years and 3 months post op and have had fibro for many years. I have lost a total of 145 lbs and I'm sorry to report I've had no decrease in my pain. In fact last week I had to go to my PCP and get a pain and steroid shot. I am also on Lyrica. I exercise regularly (walking or swimming) and that is not without pain. My depression has greatly improved so it is easier to deal with the pain. Of course just because this has been my experience doesn't mean you will have the same experience. You will have many other benefits from your weight losd

Down 110 with 15 left to goal!

I'm in the same situation as you. It's near impossible to get the last 10 lbs off. Also I am having a revision after 2 years and four months of severe acid reflux. I'm actually okay at my weight now but I won't be upset if I lose a little more. Hopefully we can both get to goal. 😀

    Weird Menstrual Period & Reflux

Yes PPis are meds like nexium, Prilosec, dexilant for acid reflux. If you say it's not bad, I'm glad because mine was horrible from a few days after surgery. I hope yours doesn't worsen and you can stop it after one month The Dr placed you on the medicine because it will help you heal as well

    Weird Menstrual Period & Reflux

My period stopped for a few months after surgery and then it was back to normal. The hunger may also be due to the reflux. Will it go away? Only time will tell. I've had reflux for 2 years and maxed out on several meds. A revision is in my near future. Are you on a PPI???
  20. Do you know the purpose of a 2 week liquid diet? I only had to do 2 days before vsg. I know typically the liquid diet is to shrink your liver. I'm not doing bypass for weight loss so I hope mine is not 2 weeks! My friend only had to do a day or two as well and her bypass wasn't for weight loss either. Guess I'll have to see.

    Gastric bypass

Hi DJB0888 I wanted to ask you....what is your reason for conversion and do you have a lot of weight to lose? I've never really heard anyone say the the weight "falls off of them" after a revision from sleeve to bypass; the weight loss is generally a lot slower. I am asking because I am currently waiting approval for my revision from sleeve to bypass (for severe GERD) but I only have about 10-13 lbs to lose. Actually I am fine at the weight I am but that amount of weight loss is to get to goal. Thanks

Hello Again, Long Time No See...

Can I ask if you revised from sleeve to bypass because of acid reflux? If so, did it resolve?
  24. I'm just curious...when did you start having problems with GERD?
