  1. i am NOT a fan of shakes. There is something how it congeals in a bottle if you don't drink it quick enough, that absolutely turns me off. Taking a drink makes me gag. Very very uncertain as to how I am going to get through the all liquid portion of my post op. And very nervous about my Protein intake if I literally cannot drink it. Perhaps unflavored protein power in salad dressing? or mixed in with pudding? NERVOUS !
  2. I am calling my official pre-op day August 3rd. I am looking forward to emptying the cupboards. I do have kids so it will somewhat of a challenge. The cupboards will be swapped around. Family cupboard and my cupboard. Still eliminating the majority of the little junk we do constantly keep in there. Surgery is scheduled for September 10th. 3 weeks of as strict of a diet as my body will realistically allow. 4th week we are headed to the mountains for fishing, so food is already limited and based on what we catch. 5th-6th week will be cleansing, Get out as much toxins as possible and allowing the liver to shrink.
  3. I am looking into NOVAMAR as it has come highly recommended by quite a few people on this site. The thing that I am wondering is the duration of your insurance. I will be in Mexico for 7 days, pre and post op. The coverage is still valid for up to 12 months post op. https://www.novamarinsurance.com.mx/insurance-services/travel/medical-tourism-insurance -Up to $160,000 USD coverage for up to 12 months after a complication occurs. -No deductible or coinsurance. -Direct payment to most hospitals in México and Argentina. -Higher coverage limits than other policies in the market. -Claim Process: Novamar Insurance Mexico and ACE Seguros make the claim process very simple for both patients and doctors. ✔ Additional Medical Expenses ✔ Additional Medical Consultations ✔ Additional Travel Expenses ✔ Additional Daily Hospital Room ✔ Accommodation and Plane Ticket for non-scheduled visit to the Doctor up to 12 months later ✔ Travel and accommodation daily expenses ✔ Trip Cancellation ✔ Trip Delay ✔ Travel Liability ✔ Accidental Death ✔ Lost Baggage ✔ Travel Assistance 24/7
  4. My friend went back to work after 9 days and she was as good as new. Zero issues. I personally am also taking 3 weeks off. My body has not dealt well with surgery in the past and I want to make sure I get adequate healing time. I never thought about taking a few extra weeks off to get use to the new eating lifestyle. That in its own is going to be a challenge especially going back to work where people heat up their delicious smelling lunches, office table is full of deserts and fruits brought in the ladies. I have applied for short term disability for 3 weeks with the option to extend Surgery is scheduled for September 10th..
  5. What is all the talk about sleep study? It seems SO many patients require it for insurance purposes.
  6. I am from Canada and I donate blood every 56 days which is the mandatory wait time between donations. I went to donate this morning and they tried to deter me away from donating due to my surgery in 48 days. They dont think my body will regenerate enough of a hemoglobin count and Iron and will cause me to become anemic for surgery. I was not warned about this from my doctor who knows I donate blood regularity and read nothing about this online. I still went through my donation process I have not read any negative things about surgery with an anemic issue. Should I be concerned? Any tips to help raise those levels besides greens, and daily Vitamins?

  10. Hi All ! I am flying down to Tijuana on Wednesday September 9th and staying thru to Tuesday September 14th. I will be joined by my mother in law. Simply looking for a walking partner at the hospital to pass the gas pains with and maybe someone to share a couple bowls of broth with during recovery at the hotel Marriott. Plus my mother in law could defiantly use a conversationalist while I am in surgery. Cheers !

  12. 48 days until I leave for Mexico. I am currently researching post op vitamins and protein options. I am okay shopping online but I would prefer to go with as much natural/herbal and Canadian products. Any suggestions???

Me too! I'm going to Tijuana on August 12th. I also want to know where to get what I need in Canada. I was told by someone (friend of a friend) that Costco carries Premier Protein Shakes and Quest Protein Bars that are high in protein and (relatively) low in carbs. I haven't checked it out yet, but will soon. I'm in Regina. Where are you?

      I am from Edmonton.

I am having a dificult time finding a vitamin to take because there are SOOOO many out there.

And at the end of the day, how different are they.

They must be due to the price differences.

I look at any thing Kirkland as being pass produced and sold in bulk.

I look at Jamison vitamins as bottom of the barrell cheap cheap. At Rexall Pharmacy they are buy one get one free right now.

I look at the online, super-weight lifting-junkie vitamins as over priced repackaged Jamison vitamins.

They do have a bariatric online vitamin store that I have been looking at.

But again I go back to the cycle of "are they the same vitamin just in a different package"?

I would like to go as natural as possible when it comes to vitamins, whether it be through herbal or not.

I do also want to support Canadian products and buy as local as possible.

North Americian for sure. NO out of country products for this girl unless absolutely necessary. I always check the labels of everything I purchase.

@@bubblebubbies your post is from quite a while ago but I thought I would through a doctor's name out there. I see Dr. Douglas Fontyne on the south side of Edmonton. He is a brilliant physician. He has many patients who have had out of country VSG and does post op care with them. When I told him about my decision he was nothing but supportive. In his practice he also had a full time dietitian (not nutritionist. Dietitians are better anyways) right in the office and you can make an appointment with her at any time, without the 3-6 month wait time referral that you would normally have to wait and she is fully covered by Alberta Health Care. Her name is Susan. The office number is 780-462-8120. There is also a doctor in the practice that only see's female patients. Its like a one-stop-shop for all your medical needs

  17. Turkey Sloppy Joe's sound amazing !
  18. Protein shakes are nasty anyways. Regardless of the "flavor" they are called Have you ever put Protein Powder in a glass mixed it with Water and watch what happens over the course of an hour? It is absolutely disgusting. It turns into sludge and smells awful And that happens in your belly so I can understand why it bothers your tummy so much‎.
  19. Have you tried thinning out the Protein with extra liquid? I get a heavy stomach when i drink shakes with too less liquid. It could also be the Whey that is bothering you. Do you have the same issue when you eat protein rather than drink it?

    Going to Tijuana, anyone else?

HI @BackToBeautiful I am going to see Dr. Garcia on September 10th. What about you?
  23. Good Morning All ! I have my sleeve surgery scheduled for the beginning of September. I am traveling down to Mexico for this. Does anyone have any recommendations for Medical Tourism Insurance (NOT TRAVEL INSURANCE) I have done some research with a few companies, and got recommended a couple by other friends who have had the procedure done in Mexico. I have found the prices vary quite a bit. I have found them from as low as $68 all the way to $237. Cheaper is NOT always better when it comes to insurance. Who did you go with and why? Did you ever have to put in a claim with them for post surgery issues? How was their customer service? Thanks !!! Miss.Robin

  25. I first told HR who then gave me the go ahead to talk to my boss. I told him the truth between the lines. I told him that I have been having digestive issues for a long time (5+ years) so I am having corrective surgery. For all he knows I am getting my colon or my gall badder removed.... but I did personally tell him that I am having the fundus of my stomach removed due to digestive complications. I did not tell him I am having a WLS He is going to know something is up when I come back to work 3 weeks later and I am thinner (fingers crossed).
