    Best place in Mexico?

I got my surgery done in Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Surgeon was Dr. Hidalgo. He was amazing. No troubles at all. I went the sleeve route because my bmi was only 30. I'm now at bmi of 22 (142 lbs) and feel amazing! The hospital was clean and ran smoothly. The Dr was terrific. Some of the staff didn't know English but the Dr is completely fluent and easily understood. I was alone and felt safe and well cared for from the moment the plane landed in PV until I sadly had to leave their beautiful country. No complaints whatsoever. I was literally laying on the beach 2 days after surgery. I was walking hours after surgery. The next day it didn't even feel like I'd had surgery. Great care. I'd totally recommend this Dr. I'm a Canadian. The flight was 5.5 hours. I was just careful to stay hydrated and walk around on the plane to ensure I didn't get a blood clot. Don't let people scare you with warnings of Mexico. People have unfounded ideas about dirty hospitals and corrupt Dr's etc. From my experience, it's quite the opposite. Just do your research and talk to the surgeon before committing to the surgery. Good luck on your journey! Sent from my SM-G925W8 using the BariatricPal App
  2. 1.5 years post surgery I cant tolerate Milk anymore. I can't stand sweet foods but I think that's because I haven't had them in a long time. I tried a sip of pop a whole ago. It tasted like thick syrup. So gross ???? Many foods taste too salty. I also got used to Protein shakes thankfully. Before surgery it took everything I had to get the down. Low BMI is it possible

Hi there. Your original post sounds like me last year. I had a bmi of 30, I was doing everything I could to lose the weight with no success. Today marks 8 months since my sleeve surgery in Mexico. I've lost 50 lbs. My bmi is now 21. I've gone from obese to overweight to normal. I'd say do the surgery. It was the best decision I've made. I'm so happy and healthy and living life to the fullest. The surgery has less risk of complications and an easier recovery for those of us with lower bmis. The day after surgery, I felt great and the day after that I was on the beach & it didn't even feel like I'd had surgery! It's your own decision but I just wanted to let you know I can completely relate to your story. Wishing you the best! Take care! Sent from my SM-G925W8 using the BariatricPal App

    Just waiting ????

Eeek!!! What an exciting day for you! Try not to worry. This is the beginning of a wonderful, rewarding journey. What a gift to give yourself. You'll be proud and amazed and happy and healthy. Good luck today. 2016 is going to be an incredible year for you!!! Keep us posted. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
  12. I was sleeved July 11, 2015. I was 5'7" and weighed 185 (bmi of 30). My goal was to lose 50 lbs. I've hit my original goal! I'm at 135 but am aiming to lose another 10. Currrently my bmi is 21. Ive gone from a size 16 pant to size 8. I feel amazing. I go to kickboxing class 2x/week. This is something I wouldn't have ever tried before and I can't tell you how much I love it!! I've gotten my life back!! I'm happy, healthy and confident again and I'm beyond thrilled. Recovery for us low bmi-ers is much easier than those who have more to lose. Honestly, by the next day I felt like I hadn't had surgery at all!! I haven't regretted my surgery for a second in the almost 6 months since. Not a second. I was self pay. I'm a Canadian who went to PV Mexico for surgery. There was no way I would have qualified for free surgery through health care. It only costed me $5500 US and the care I received was incredible...as was spending time on the beaches of Mexico haha. I went there for surgery alone and never once felt scared or unsafe. I decided I'd rather go alone for surgery and have family join me for a holiday there once the weight was gone. Guess what?!! My 2 sons, my boyfriend and I are booked to return to Puerto Vallarta during February break!!! Soooo exciting!! There has been no sagging skin. I spent a lot of time exercising in the beginning because I was worried about that. I take Multivitamins plus b12, Calcium and Biotin supplements daily. Going to add a multi B Vitamin as well. Congrats on your decision to have surgery. It's an incredible gift to yourself. I hope your journey is as wonderful as mine has been. Let me know if you have any questions!!

    EXERCISE CHALLENGE ROUND 2!

Love this idea!! My exercise goal is 4 hours/week. I'm at 136 lbs and goal is 125.
  14. I went clothing shopping today and actually ENJOYED it!! It hard to know what size to grab because I still see myself as bigger so I take a whole range. When the size small sweater actually fit me I clapped and did a happy dance!! I could have cried. Spent too much money on clothes today but I so needed them and it was such a treat to spoil myself!! I can remember 6 months ago when I hated clothes shopping and the clothes I tried on were always too small instead of too big. I'm so grateful for my sleeve and proud of myself for working hard on this journey!!! And...you should have seen my boyfriends face when I showed him my cute new skinny jeans and tight T-shirt. Haha! I told him "they make me feel so skinny". He replied "that's because you are so skinny...and sexy". What a difference 4 months can make!!
  15. I found the plane ride home just fine. I had a 3 hr flight to San Francisco, with an hour long layover and then a 3.5 hour flight up to Canada. Before surgery I was super nervous about catching that plane in SF but I was able to walk almost normally with very little pain. I have a history of blood clots (DVTs) so was also super paranoid about that. I wore compression stockings and got.up and walked the aisles every hour. I was alone throughout this jourmey but thankfully no issues at all on the trip home. You won't be able to drink a whole lot at a time still so I took powdered electrolytes to add to my Water on the plane. That helped a ton with keeping me hydrated and helping my energy levels. Good luck! And say hi to sunny Mexico for me!! I'm hoping to go back in February, except for a vacation this time!!
  16. Keep mixing it up!! And try things you never would have ever considered. First I was all about kayaking, then lane swim, the a couch to 5K app. The past 2 months, I have been OBSESSED with kickboxing!! I think I'll stick with this for a while because it's truly awesome but if I get bored, I'll try something that will push me and keep my interest. Don't be hard on yourself if you get bored of something...just find something new. The important part is to go, go, go!!!

    Plan B

Oh, and of course there was a pre-op diet. It was only for 4 days (because of my lower bmi) but I did it for a week to lessen my pre-surgery worries.

    Plan B

I was sleeved in July by Dr. Hidalgo in Puerto vallarta, Mexico. My BMI was 30 so I don't think there's usually a BMI requirement. I got my lab work done in the day of surgery. No other tests or evaluations besides an online health history form and a telephone consultation. I was able to book within 2 weeks of the surgery. Some people worry about surgery in Mexico. It was a clean hospital and I felt very safe. The surgeon was top notch. When I was released from the hospital, I spent the day on the beach and walking the beautiful city!
  19. I've lost 45 lbs. Pretty good for a low BMI-er. Starting weight 185, current weight 139! I was size 16 and now my size 10s are getting too big. Thrilled
