    Dizzy

My PCP told me today to stop my meds until I see her next week. I got 103/64 this morning and this evening was 109/63. I've had a lot of light headedness.
  2. I am a revision from band to sleeve. I got the band in 2012 and everything was fine for the first 2 years. I lost about 80 lbs. Then in mid-2014 I started throwing up everything including liquids. We tried adjusting the band for about 6 months and never could get it right. So I decided I wanted the sleeve instead. I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time I had my band surgery which got rid of my GERD. I had the surgery June 1st to have the band removed and the sleeve done. My surgeon did it all in one surgery. I had no complications. The worst part was the really uncomfortable hospital bed and the drain I had in the hospital. I only had 2 doses of pain meds in the hospital and one was for a headache. I needed no pain meds at home. I do not miss that band at all. I do not miss throwing up. I'm very happy with the sleeve. I have a little larger than normal sleeve because I had some scar tissue around the esophagus and he lined up the sleeve with that so I would have less of a risk for leaks. I don't miss the port at all. I don't miss the fills and the needles. I eat about 4-5 oz of Protein and a serving of veggies at each meal. I've eaten more veggies in the past 3 months than I had in the previous 8 years. My tastes changed too. I can't stand ice cream now and sweets don't bother me. I can eat chicken again - I never could with the band no matter how it was prepared. I'm 52. And today my PCP took me off my BP medication because my BP readings for the past 3 days have been really low - average of 109/63 and I was getting light headed.

    Sleep study

The worst part of the sleep study I thought was trying to get all the goop out of my hair. It took about 5 good hair washings to get it to come out.

    Seafood!

I love a broiled lobster tail. I buy them at the Fresh Market all the time and broil them in my toaster oven. I eat shrimp too - I've had no problem with them. I also eat salmon, flounder, grouper and haddock either broiled or cooked on my Nu Wave.

    Psych eval was um...

When I had my lapband the psychiatrist they sent me to was the most annoying person on the face of the planet. He was totally full of himself and drove me nuts. When I had my revision they tried to send me to him again and I said no way. So they sent me to a different person. Some of them seem like they are in the wrong profession.

    WLS for the "right" reasons

Honestly what made me finally pull the trigger and have the surgery was that my husband carries our health insurance and his paid for it. But he works for a company that is in talks to do a merger with another company after a failed merger and who knows what the insurance will be like when they merge. Right now we have major insurance coverage at a really good price with a low co-pay, low deductible and low maximum OOP. But that could all change.

How Do You Set Your Goals?

I am 52 years old and when I graduated from high school I was 5'5" and weighed 135. I know I'm not going to be 115 or 120. I set my final goal at something I thought I could get to and maintain for a while. When I get there I will see how I feel and what my surgeon thinks. But that goal is 95 lbs away so I'm setting smaller goals of 10 lbs a month. I also set goals for oz of Water in a day, Protein grams in a day, and the maximum number of carbs I will eat. I have constant daily knee pain from osteoarthritis and exercise is difficult. I have to use a cane to walk and a walker if it's a lot of walking. So I set a goal of doing water aerobics 3 times a week at the YMCA. My class is on M-W-F. My surgeon is thrilled that I signed up for the class and he told me that he was very proud of me.
  8. My surgeon told me something I didn't know - the sleeve has actually been around longer than people think. He said that the sleeve surgery is really the first part of the bypass surgery and that with people who were super large they would do the sleeve, give them 6-8 months and then do the rest of the surgery for the bypass. What they found was that the people were losing decent amounts of weight with the sleeve, so they started doing just the sleeve without the 2nd surgery. And then the sleeve started being really popular.

    Ramen noodles

What does your NUT say? They were not allowed on my pre-op plan. No Pasta like that at all.

    Band has to come out

I had my revision on June 1st. I do not miss that band at all and I am very happy with the sleeve. I don't miss throwing up every time I eat or drink. I don't miss having that port slide across a nerve and give me a sharp, stabbing pain. I don't miss the giant needles going into my stomach with no numbing first. I don't miss having to go every six weeks for fill adjustments. I had no issues with my revision surgery. I've lost 36.6 lbs in not quite 3 months and my goal is 10 lbs a month. And I can eat chicken again! After my band surgery I could not eat any part of the chicken no matter how you cooked it without it coming right back up.

    Sleeve to Bypass weight loss

In not quite 3 months I've lost 36 lbs. My goal is 10 lbs a month.

How do you get your protein

I eat the good ribeye! I have one at least twice a week. Are you wanting to go vegetarian? Paleo/Primal is nowhere near vegetarian. There are plenty of veggies that are low carb. And Paleo/Primal is all about the meat. My Protein comes from beef, pork, chicken, turkey and seafood.

    Anthem PPO INS

I had an ablation and my husband had a vasectomy and they still made me take a pregnancy test. I had to take one before and one right the morning of surgery. When I had my revision in June I had to have one the morning of surgery again. I thought it was rather funny. And menopause has been around since 2006.

    Dizzy

Yesterday I was feeling really dizzy and my BP was 115/51 when I took it. I'm on BP meds and I see my PCP next week so I think we may have to change them. Today I got 116/64 when I took it.

    Sample day of eating

Don't assume the poster is mistaken. I was on full solids at 10 days out. That's the plan my surgeon uses. He doesn't want people using Protein shakes as a replacement for real food for very long. Everyone is going to be different. At 14 days out I could eat a small salad and 4-5 oz of steak.
  16. Every day for me. Right now while I'm trying different foods post op it helps me know that if the scale went up 2 lbs I probably shouldn't eat that food I tried yesterday. Plus I'm trying to find the right calorie range that will keep me losing but not be too low.

    Binging before surgery

Well does your insurance have some rules about how much weight you can gain between your appointment and your surgery? I know some do. You are going to have to watch what you eat after the surgery really closely so doing it now gets you in the right mindset and helps you begin to plan and prepare.
  18. At one month out I could eat 5 oz of steak or chicken or pork with a small salad or some other veggies. I think the carbs in your deal are really high. I don't snack - I have Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I try to have 25-30 grams of Protein for each meal minimum. Depends on what I eat.

    Going out to eat

Cream soups were on my post-op liquid list as approved. You probably can't eat enough of it to make the calories be too high.

COLLAR BONES, SIZE LARGE, QUEST BARS

My NUT told me to cut out the Quest bars if I wanted to lose. I only use one on Sunday morning because church and Sunday School go from 9-1 and I need something in the morning.
  21. If you like fruit flavors, Bariatric Advantage has a Protein drink that's similar to Crystal Light in different flavors. They also have protein pudding and Jello. I used the Syntrax nectar chocolate truffle. I only had to do liquids for 1 week post op before I went to soft foods.
  22. I am sorry I didn't go with the sleeve to start with. I chose the band at first because it wasn't a permanent solution that couldn't be reversed. Big mistake. I could no longer eat chicken or turkey in any shape, sort or form. 2 years in I started throwing up everything including liquids. I couldn't get adjusted properly with the fills. I had to go every 8 weeks for adjustments. The port would move inside and scrape across a nerve and make me scream. Or my son would poke my and hit the port and OUCH! I don't regret having revision surgery at all. I'm much happier with the sleeve.

    Blood Thinners

Not post discharge. I was in the hospital 2 nights and I got heparin shots every 4 hours while I was there. I went home with 22 bruises from the shots and the blood draws.

    Just Checking.....

I had the band. Note I said had. It was fine for the first 2 years. Then we couldn't get it adjusted any longer so that I wasn't throwing up everything including liquids. I had a revision to the sleeve on June 1st and I do not miss that band at all. I don't miss throwing up. I don't miss having that port in my body that would slide across a nerve and give me a major sharp stabbing pain. I don't miss those giant needles being stuck into my stomach. I don't miss having to go for adjustments to the fill all the time. I don't have quite as much restriction with the sleeve, but I also don't have an appetite. I don't get hungry and don't think about eating all the time. With the band after surgery I could not eat chicken. I don't care which part or how you cooked it, it would not stay down ever. Now I can eat chicken again. I haven't had problems with any foods so far.
  25. My surgeon's practice still does bands. I originally chose the band because it was reversible if there were any complications. It worked fine for the first two years and then I started not being able to get adjusted with the fills in the green zone. I was throwing up everything I tried to eat - even the slider foods and liquids. I said I wanted a revision to the sleeve and my surgeon said okay. I never had to pay for fills. The insurance company approved them a year at a time one a month.
