  1. I was sleeved June 17th, so I'm at 6 weeks post op. I've "only" lost about 17 pounds since the surgery. I've been following my diet, exercising quite a bit (walk/jog/hike 1.5-3 miles 5 days per week). Im getting in liquids and my Vitamins. I'm supposed to aim for 1200 calories daily, but I'm only getting up to 500-600 on average per day. That's the only thing I could imagine factoring in to not losing as much as others seem to be.

I admit that I'm a little frustrated and wondering if anyone else is in my shoes or if any one has thoughts about this.

    Thank you in advance.

  2. My surgery is next week and I had a question for ya'll post sleevers.

Are you feeling hungry on your liquid only diet?

They say the surgery removes the hunger hormone, is that feeling true?

Did you experience any vomiting post op?

Sometimes a little bit. But it's more a desire to be eating what I can't have. Sort of a head hunger. I was very nauseous the first two days after surgery and did dry heave once, which was very painful. I didn't want to drink anything at all, or even look at it, until day 3.

  3. I'm also on day 8 post op and had a challenging day today too. I would have been happy with just a little refried Beans. I had a bad hour during the afternoon fighting this. But I went to the kitchen, got a bottle of Water, a cup of broth, and a SF pudding and just kept sipping. That helped a lot. Maybe I was bordering on dehydration. I kept reminding myself that I'm doing this for a reason and to be strong.

  4. Tomorrow is the big day for me. The nerves are definitely there. But glad the wait is almost over. I'm checking in at 9:30am. Oh my goodness. Is anyone else going in tomorrow?

Tomorrow is my day too. I check in at 8:00am. Best of luck.

So how are you feeling now? I didn't start feeling halfway normal until the second day out. Stayed in hospital 2 nights and just got home today. I've been a sipping these grape isoprene drinks with Protein in them.

  5. I just got home from the hospital (today is Friday). I was sleeved on Wednesday and had an umbilical hernia repair. I think the hernia repair hurts more than anything. I struggled badly with pain when I was woken up from the surgery and for the rest of the day. But today I feel kind of happy. Strangely, I'm more focused on healing than losing weight. Hopefully weight loss happens too :)

  6. Hi! I took the prep diet opportunity to use the things that have been sitting in the pantry and freezer for too long because I was very busy with teaching as a full time job, teaching math tutorials after school and weekends, and driving the kids to their lessons and fast food became my handy friend. Being on summer break and a liquid diet, I cleaned out the food that's been sitting there and turned it into meals that I froze for my kids and visiting friends when post op recovery rolls around. I literally don't have any more room in my freezer because it is so stocked with prepared meals! I didn't have to buy much to add to the recipes so I saved money (money that went to buying my Protein shakes :)

I didn't have any issue cooking with regards to temptation or torture. I actually enjoyed it. It gave me something to focus on instead of my hunger pains.

  7. I can't believe how timely this thread is.

I'm just two minutes done with a conversation about my HUGE umbilical hernia and trying to figure out how to live with it for the next six months.

I don't see my surgeon for the first time until early next month.

I have already had two operations on the same. Holding a pillow against the post op site really helped me for the first weeks when I'd be moving around or sitting up.

I'm wondering now if a compression wrap of some type around my abdomen would help me get through until surgery.

I believe that tonight I am going to be emailing the bariatric program nurse and ask to see if my surgeon will call in a prescription for such a wrap.

I just hope to hang on until the end of the year and have it repaired during the bypass.

The first time I had it done was above my current weight and the recovery was painful as heck. Outpatient and rushed. Open surgery.

The second time was done after a year long exercise & Adkins push where I was 120 lbs lighter and much stronger from weight lifting and long daily cardio sessions. Outpatient and open wound. Two hernias repaired but the recovery was much easier due to greater health.

Never made it back to lifting. Stayed away from gym and let cardio sessions fall off. Dropped Adkins.

Three years later I'm now carrying 100 lbs of what I'd lost. Huge hernia is back. Dealing with spine issues.....taking yet another round of steroids right now for retuned back spasms........but......MOTIVATED LIKE A BEAST and supper happy now that I'm on the path to bypass.

It'll be the tool I need to help me continue losing weight even when I struggle with developing physical injury from time to time that halt gym-cardiovascular efforts.

Weight loss will keep going and I'm sure help my spine issues......prolong knee replacements.....hip replacements.....and hernia reoccurrence.

I'm thinking that yoga will be a good thing down the road for me.....hopefully this time next year I'll be looking into the classes offered through my gym.

I'm seriously hoping they build a pool by then, too.

Going to email the nurse tonight and ask for that compression wrap prescription.

Surgeon may not since he's not seen me for the first visit.

I'll poke around online tonight and see if I see anything that may work anyway. There has to be a product out there.......

    Good luck with yours.

I know how aggravating they can be.

Mine has improved since I've lost some weight on my own. The big meals I used to be be eating weren't helping the hernia.

I'm virtually off fried stuff and things like pizza and Pasta.

tuna, chicken, salads, oatmeal, Soups, yogurt and such have been easier on the hernia.....and the Fluid loss is noticeable in my knees and legs.

    Good luck.

I have no good ideas. This is my first hernia. I had my gallbladder removed last summer and the hernia seems to be a result of that? I'm afraid that, like yours did, mine will reopen.

  8. Make greek yogurt your new friend. I'm 4 months out and still have 1 shake a day and most days I have at least 1/2 cup of nonfat greek yogurt - either in a smoothie with Protein Powder, or just with a little bit of preserves added. Especially right at first getting all your Protein in is difficult, but it's also essential - your body needs it to heal.

Dannon Oikos has a new Greek yogurt line with 15 grams of protein per serving.

  9. I know this question has been asked a zillion times but I want to ask all of you that are on the pre-op diet right now.

What Protein drinks are you drinking now?

I drinking Premier Protein but I don't really like them that well. I can tell I am going to get pretty tired of them and quickly.

Hello...I've been ordering cases from Amazon.... I like Boost carb control and Atkins. Both have around 15 grams of Protein each and 160-180 calories. I drink about 5 per day, plus sf Greek yogurt, Tomato Soup, or sf pudding.< /p>

  10. I had my surgery on the 10th also everything is fine except I cant seem to get 64oz of fluids down for the life of me Its too much then I feel bloated and my belly aches...and forget about food not happening just yet! I hope this part of the transition and that it will pass. In any case best of luck to all
Hi LynRey, I'm having problems getting enough liquid as well. My program does not do Protein Shakes or powder or anything like that either. It's clear liquids right after surgery and then modified liquids for two weeks. So, day 2 of modified and unable to get down more than a couple of licks off the spoon. They say only three "meals" a day with liquids in between. So now I'm thinking this is where my headache is coming from. My body is in starvation mode. I get light-headed, dizzy, and just feel like crud. They have been very clear that Protein shakes are a no-no so I'm unsure how to proceed at this point. I'm going to call the NUT tomorrow and hope for a remedy.
What do you mean by a modified liquid?

  11. Being private is not bad. Not everything in life is a Facebook status. I finally told my coworker/?friend two days before I went out for surgery. The skinny, blonde (yes, I may be jealous) immediately said "you don't need that, you just need to eat less". Who needs that wisdom; I think we've all tried that! Find the people who support you unconditionally and share what you're comfortable with.

FWIW: I was sleeved on June 1. It has been great! Good luck in your journey!

I like that! Not everything is a facebook status! :) You just need to eat less? She knows your average daily calorie intake, huh? Well, we all wish it were that easy :)

  12. I'm glad to hear from others in the issue that I kind of battled with. I chose not to tell anyone except my husband and my eldest daughter, she is 21. I finally told my mom 3 days before my surgery. I have 2 boys, 12 and 10, they knew I had surgery but weren't sure for what, but they were ok with everything. I didn't want to hear anything negative from people, or all the "but why" questions. This was a very personal journey for me and I want to keep it personal. Possibly later I will share with more family and friends.

    I understand that!

  13. Thanks for the tips! I'm going to get this surgery over with and focus on getting healthy for a while. I don't think I have the emotional energy for dating at the moment :) but I definitely agree with your point about daily showers...for both genders!
