  1. If you remove 75 to 85% of your stomach you will never eat more than a cup of food for the rest of your life. That's a fact. You can eat most things. But you will feel awkward eating out and at family gatherings. You may also have food aversions. Bread, Pasta and rice may cause issues Your stomach won't stretch and its permanent. I can't imagine a surgeon will agree to only removin 40 to 50% .

    Need your input and advice

I revised and I think you need to think hard about this decision. I still throw up with the sleeve, I never had acid reflux with the band and now deal with it. Your restriction are greater and there's no relief via defill. As a twice banded patient, your at much higher risk for complications. Although it's harder to lose weight, that's because your metobalism was shut down with the band. You may lose very little with the sleeve. It's very very difficult with the sleeve and doesn't feel natural. Its odd living without 85% of my stomach.
  3. I am really shocked that they won't see you! We Have A Fully Funded Health care System For A Reason. I think you need to lobby your Health Minister! Make a fuss and threatened to go to the media. What about a referral to Toronto hospitals? I had my surgery in Montreal and live in Ontario. I have been able to see a local surgeon here for follow up.
  4. It's sad when we have to give things we love due to this journey. I hope the benefits out weigh the risks and sacrifices for you. I would also warn about addiction transfer. Once food leaves our lives we find other things to plug the hole, and alcohol is one.

    Post-op body image

It's not easy when we suffer from body dysmorphia. We don't see the positive only the negative. This is something you will need help to overcome. Join a support group online or seek counselling. I am working with a therapist and I've never felt skinny even when I was...I had this surgery in a time when my body issues were on a high. It's a battle

Hello any one feel like this

Hi Arfaiz, I use to live in Qatar :). Did they check all your vitamin levels? Maybe your low on b12. Can you go back to the doctor who did your VGS? Maybe he will know why your having this issue. Are you taking any medication for the GERD? You should get some prescription meds.

    Height differences

Michelle, I wish you success in your surgery. I say this not from a negative place. But your struggle is mental. You can gain weight post op and I can't believe RNY was approved for someone your height and starting weight! I will say the same thing of myself I was 310 and at 5'11. My issue is mental. The surgery was not the answer. It's only worsen my mental health. I am talking to my therapist and we think I suffer from body dysmorphia. I can't see myself as others see me.

    Height differences

May I ask, if you have no comorbidities and may barely meet the one bmi requirement...then why do a drastic surgery? This is not easy. There are many restriction and possible complications The restrictions don't dissappear after weightloss nor does the risk complications. Good Luck

    My first time eating pizza!

Wow, it's a good thing ypu could eat the whole thing! I am shocked your restriction did force you to vomit. How long did it take you to eat it.
  11. Here'sthe thing the gastric sleeve is not a standardizedprocedure. Like you my surgeon said NSAIDS are not off limit. But in reality many many surgeons say their off limit because your at a much higher rate of ulcers due to the very small size of your stomach. Ulcers are dangerous. I have chatted with a few folks who took NSAIDS post op and suffered through ulcers! I think you need to ask your surgeon why other surgent tell their patients not yo use NSAIDS.
  12. I revised to the sleeve and the restriction is insane It's hard to live this way! ! Strongly recommend you have have it removed and live normally

    Sleeve for non overeater?

It's pretty extreme to get either surgeries if you have no comorbidities aND not much weight to lose. Have you considered reversible options like the band or ballon? With the bypass and sleeve, you will need to think about life beyond weightloss. You will be always be very restricted, never can take NSAIDS(what happens if you need a hip replacement as you age?) and a commitment to Vitamins for life. There's more to think about than weight loss.
  14. The restriction are greater with the sleeve, no NSAIDS for life etc etc.
  15. I would not immediately. Try practicing your healthy eating habits without the band if you want it out. I revised and its much more harder with the sleeve. Don't make this decision lightly if your happy with the band. Keep your stomach .

I dreamt of coffee and toast last night. I am 8 weeks post op and I can't have either. Miserable

    Food Addiction

God, I spent all of two weekendsago begging my sister not to call the police. Finally on Monday, I took myself because I felt such deep comfort after I had my plan figured out. I knew I couldn't do it to my family. But that's how deep the pain was and I didn't have food to bury it. I never had any issues before, experienced it all post op. My food addiction and severe fear of complications is driving me mad. You may feel a billion times better post op as the weight falls but if your not prepared to tackle your food addiction it will haunt you as does for me. Please seek counselling to tackle this decision don't rely on your mind to make this decision. You need an objective voice to challenge you.

    Food Addiction

It's Walter, Please don't consider suicide for a minute. I know how you feel. I was very suicidal two weeks ago and admitted myself to the hospital. It's never a solution. You need to forgive yourself for this relapse and move forward. There will be moments where you fail but there will many more moments where you succeed, that's the human condition. I am sending you positive energy.

Surgeons who can fix a leak

Your leak is most likely from the surgery itself. It could have only manifested in physical symptoms a few days after the swelling lessened. Unlike non organic material our stomachs arent that easy to plug. Try a center of excellence linked to a unversity. Your in one of the best cities in the world. Columbia University or the Mayo Clinic!
  22. I think that many surgeons tell their patients that it's still the same stomach post op just much smaller!. But that's not true. So many things change from as simple as drinking Water to our capacity to absorn certain minerals and medications!
  23. I am not sure if it's the Protein drinks. But with the sleeve we no longer have the capacity to hold Water. Not much of a stomach! Lol. That's how I understand it. Water goes thru our system too quickly

    Post-op insomnia?!

Oh my yes! I was close to mental breakdown! Couldn't figure out why I couldn't sleep my second week. Slept a total of four hours in 5 days! I finally went to the hospital, the gave me ativan which did nothing and went to my family doctor and got some sleeping pills. After using them for three days I was able to reset my sleep pattern.
