I think this is why my doctor has a really conservative post op diet. Only Water and broth for the first week, can add Protein Shakes for weeks 2-3, mushy/pureed foods week 4-5, and then the first solid foods at week 6. Right now I'm in the water only stage, and REALLY ready to have something else but I plan on following his guidelines to a T to prevent overeating/eating the wrong things too soon.

It kinda makes you have buyers remorse to a degree doesn't it? The only thing is my doc wants us off of the shakes at 6 weeks and eating. I just don't see how that's possible. I'm almost a month out and the things that they said I can / should be eating make me feel like crap afterward. On a positive note im,dropping the pounds like crazy ????

Getting off meds. Doing anything active with my family .... kiddos love to go on bike rides, hubby wants to go kyaking, and I'd love to go for a jog with my oldest. Losing the pudgy look. Wearing dresses again. I wear shorts, go swimming, and take pictures with my family now, tho I know I look overweight ... I'm actually surprised each time I see myself in pictures because I do not feel like I look ... so I'm looking forward to looking the way I feel. I got over a lot of self esteem issues in the last two years. Learned to love who I am, as I am. I think this will help tremendously after I have wls. Can't wait!

I was out to dinner and movie with a friend and a friend-of-a-friend. I really didn't expect the other friend to be there but I was itching to tell someone and see how it went, so I just blurted out I have some news to share and told them I am looking at WLS. The other friend got all excited because she had lap band years ago and it was the best thing that ever happened to her. I was so glad I shared ... I got a lot of support and a new WLS buddy ???? My mom, dad, and hubby all know and are supportive, too. Only one person has said not to do it ... but after explaining why he changed his tune. I can't imagine I'll lose a friend over this but if I do, it's their loss.

Are their any support groups in your area? How about a couple sessions with a bariatric psychologist? Love your honesty. It's post like yours that make this journey more real for me.

I am sorry that happened I assume that he meant it as a compliment but obviously didn't know when to drop it. I get uncomfortable when people notice my weight loss I feel like they never really saw me before I lost half of me.

So the other night I was totally thrown for a loop and for the first time in a long time, I was actually rendered speechless. I was at a parent dinner meet and greet for a new sport my youngest is part of. I knew only 3 or 4 people (out of about 40) as this is my daughter's first year on the team.

I have known the woman who organized it (as well as her husband) forever. Her husband has always been very friendly with me, but we rarely see each other because they are both the most boring people on earth. Nice enough, but not people I want to hang around.

The husband came over to me and in front of about 15 people I've never seen in my life said, "Hey! How are you? And where is the rest of you?". Truly oblivious, I assumed he was asking about my husband as there were MANY dads there and I said that he was still at work. I've not been fat for over a year and a half and NO ONE mentions it anymore. People I've never met would have no idea I was ever fat.
He goes on to say, "Well, you've lost at least 100 or more pounds, right? I mean, you've lost at least half of yourself. Where did it go?" Immediately all eyes were on me and I had no idea what to say. (Weird, I know. I ALWAYS have something snarky to say. Long day, I guess.)
What a freaking beast. It was completely uncomfortable and awkward for me and I could tell a few of the ladies around me could feel it. Someone tried to make a joke that she "found it" and a few people f***ng congratulated me on something they know NOTHING about. I've left my fat life behind, how could this one jackhole completely throw me back into that world with a few sentences? One of my biggest reasons for losing the weight and my only real insecurity about being obese was how much I hated being "the fat mom" at every event. Leaving that world behind has been the best part of this whole experience and he brought it all slamming right back into the present.
I'm still pissed. I am going to see him endlessly throughout the summer and the season. I want to kick him in the nuts really bad. ARGH!!!

Its very unfortunate what happened to him and sad that it goes against Dr Kim's name. The media always leaves out information to make others look bad. Dr Kim is a good doc and I have no regrets in choosing him. Just because patients reply to others asking about certain doctors doesn't make them marketers, it makes them excited to share about how that doctor has effected their lives.
Dr Kim has some issues, lawsuits etc. One patient lost his legs due to a mistake during surgery by another surgeon from Kim's office (substituted without patient's knowledge).

I happen to believe that he has some marketing people on these boards occasionally posing as patients but I cannot prove that.

I used Nicholson, my procedure and recovery was textbook no issues whatsoever. 9 months out currently.

I also met with Roshack, he did my most recent follow up appointment and he seems great and very knowledgeable as well.

Nicholson is an extremely skilled surgeon and also happens to be a very nice and friendly person.

My inverted sleeve surgery was with Dr Kim was 3 years ago and have not had any issues at all. I know a lot of the support group patients, and none of them have had issues with the inverted sleeve as well.

I've purchased Unjury sample kit as.well, unjury seems to be the only one I like aside from Premier Protein. Sams does have them, where I'm located anyways. 12 pack for $18.88...only place I can find it!
Also our local Vitamins shoppe hosts a bariatric night once a month where u can come and sample tons of Protein powders and drinks. Even on a regular day they are really good with letting u sample. Try them!!

I remember a time I could eat a whole plate of food, finish my daughter's food, and still have room for desert. But since the surgery I take a few bites and I'm done. I used to get frustrated but now I enjoy it because I feel like a normal person that knows their limits. I know that this isn't a NSV but to me it seems like it. Just wanted to share. Oh, and now my daughter finishes my plate...NICE!!!????

Here is what I think every single time I think about eating something.
    1. Is it something that will help me achieve my Protein goal for the day. If not....I don't eat it.
    2. I ask myself....is this good for me?
    3. Am I eating because I am thirsty? I try to drink some Water first, it helps because the. I have to wait at least a half hour before I eat something.
    4. I tell myself it's only going to taste good for 10 seconds.
That's what's keeps me on track.

Maggietcu2 reacted to feedyoureye in So why did we need surgery to do this?
Research tell us that most weight gain happens after 3 years. I think there are both mental and physical reasons for this. Some of the reasons are unknown by medicine....they are looking into it more than ever. Lots of new research thinks that changes in the biom have something to do with why we lose, and if we start back into eating those refined foods we used to eat, the biom slowly changes back to how it was before surgery. (Some research suggests that when you eat lots of refined food, you grow more bacteria in the gut that processe that kind of food, and the bacteria has an imperative to get you to eat even more of that food FOR THEM. Creepy hugh? Our gut floura tells us what to eat. So if you stick with the right foods long enough, the gut will want you to keep eating them. Slip up for long enough and the gut will trigger chemicles that scream EAT CAKE! Not kidding. That is only part of the story, but those primitive voices that call us to eat cake are real and hard to ignore. There is thought that the surgery sets the gut biom in a new direction and gives us a boost towards a healthy reset... that combined with a smaller stomach helps the initial weight loss. I am at 41/2 years, have struggled with my goal... took 3 years to get to goal, and have bounced around a bit there... I am about 14 pounds above goal right now... and holding... always going back to maintaining consciousness about what i eat and how I move when I slip up... lots of good habits I keep up all the time...I consider myself a success (and so do my docs)... of course I would rather be at goal... but its still a work in progress.
Why couldn't I just lose it and keep it off before surgery? I wonder why too, but seeing the stats about how many people can lose and keep off the weight withought surgery is reason enough for me to have gotten surgery. This is the very firt time I could get it all off or stay anywhere near goal this long in my entire life. I have achieved many things in my life, lots of travel, interesting jobs, notariety in my field.... really, the only thing that has been the bane of my life and health has been being fat and not finding success taking it off or keeping it off. Like most of us here, I spent at least half of my life trying without success. This surgery has been the tool I needed to have some success there as well.
