    December 1

Just around the corner. I'm on pre op day 11. A first time ever 'no-food' thanksgiving Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Me too! I'll be in Spokane for mine next week on December 1. 5am too Haha. Luckily I'm a morning person so it shouldn't be too bad for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Great! Dr. Rawlins is doing my surgery. He also was the one at the initial education seminar I attended. Like you, I feel very very comfortable with him; excited about how this will help me feel better and get healthy. I live in Walla Walla so I have to travel up for appointments. I'm 7 days into my pre-op right now (started a couple days early) and doing pretty well. It has been difficult in certain respects. Surprisingly easy in others. One thing I've noticed is that the difference between head hunger and stomach hunger is really coming out for me in this... I've definitely had both; but the hardest moments are when I WANT something when I know I'm not physically hungry. I wrote about it a little a couple of posts ago in my blog...

    Anyone else nervous?

I went through a phase over the summer where I was terrified. I feel good now. Not sure what did it other than the realization returning to me that I need to do this to stay alive -- going on the same is its own risk as well. In the end, I have to put faith somewhere -- no one has absolute control over life Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Why are you conflicted? Thanks for asking. I no longer feel conflicted about it at all. I'm ready to go! I kind of went through a deep questioning stage for a month or so over the summer. You can read about it in this thread: http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351636-Approved---but-Should-I-Go-through-with-it%253F Everyone's responses were very very helpful. My latest pre-op was super helpful as well: very confirming.
  6. So yeah, I have an ongoing issue with nocturnal enuresis (peeing in the bed). It started several years ago and the specialists rules out all the usual cause suspects pretty quick. It doesn't happen every night but often enough that I use incontinence products as a standard rule. Changing sheets every day becomes more of a drag than changing a disposable brief. So obviously this is an embarrassing problem and a bit of a taboo in our culture. My wife thinks I should just ignore it and let it happen if it happens. I.e. Not tell the hospital staff or anything and just deal with the eventuality (and wet pjs) if it happens. I feel like I should put it in my medical history and let them know -- and just bring my supplies along to the hospital. My case manager says to bring all my normal sleeping clothes to the hospital and that I'll be in normal lounge wear and pjs pretty soon after surgery. I don't want to make a big deal of this - or a spectacle. But I also want to be courteous and reasonable. In your experience. What was it like in the hospital after surgery? What do you suppose I should do here? What seems reasonable? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    December sleepers

December 1 in Spokane. Just had my pre op this week. I feel surprisingly good about it given all my ups and downs along the way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I was on a medically supervised diet for about the last 6 months. I had ups and downs with it but I stuck with it for the most part. I'm down around 15-20lbs from last April depending on the timing of my weigh ins. For me, the nutritionist didn't need to do a lot of education on WHAT to eat but rather more on how: no liquids with meals, eat slower, eat more often, focus on few processed carbs, etc Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I have been increasingly impressed with this Rockwood Group in Spokane. I'm scheduled for December 1 and I've had a great experience with them so far. They're very helpful, have clear instructions, and are 100% non-shaming which is essential for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Hey thanks for the input folks. I had a conversation with my nurse/case manager and she responded very graciously to more detailed questions from me. She told me I'd be surprised by just how many people come in with this issue (and a total secret from everyone else in their lives); especially men apparently. She indicated that it will probably resolve after I lose a bunch of my excess weight (which was great to hear -- and something I'd predict as well). I asked her about dealing with it in the hospital and as many of you suggested, and she kind of reiterated the instructions I already received: Bring my normal stuff from home; it won't be a big deal; etc... If anyone has any other input, I'd appreciate it!

    Pre op diet

I begin in 2 days. Not looking forward to 6-8 weeks without real food. But I believe it'll be worth it in the end. I met with the dietician and went over all his required steps. It looks hard :/ but certainly doable. 2 weeks of liquid is what I have to focus on right now.

    VSG Leak

Sorry to hear this. Holding space for you.
  14. Has anyone else dealt with this while in the hospital? I'm thinking I should talk with my surgeon's nurse about it at my pre op this week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Hey I just wanted to give a note of thanks and an update for anyone who's interested. I appreciate all of your advice and feedback as I said before. I have decided to have my sleeve surgery. It will take place on December 1 and I'm going to have my preop appointment this week… I should start the pre-op diet soon thereafter. Right now I feel really excited about it and very clear that this is the right thing for me. Hopeful that this will help me get a jump on getting to A healthy weight. I really like Dr. Weiner materials. I've watched most of his YouTube videos now and I am almost done with his book. It really makes a lot of sense and In a way, it combines the ideal of A plant-based diet with the acknowledgment that weight-loss surgery is appropriate for certain people. His attitude really helps me to have more self acceptance about this actually... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Sleep Study

Same situation for me. It was kind of like a little hotel room. Not the Hilton, but it was nicer than a regular hospital room. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Sleep Study

I had it a few years ago. I've been using a cpap ever since and my sleep is SO much better. It is awkward to sleep with all the sensors. Lots and lots of wires. Stuck on your face, scalp, chest, etc. for me, they ran a bundle of wires down my shirt and through my shorts...very weird. I had to get up to go to the bathroom and the tech just came in to unhook me. They have video cameras and radios in the room so any time you talk, you're heard. A little unnerving but fine. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    December 8th

I'm on December 1...just about to get started on the pre op diet. I'm at Bmi of 39 right now....I doubt losing too much before my surgery will be an issue... I actually asked the doc and he said not to worry about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Me too. December 1 in Spokane WA. Godspeed to all of you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I just wanna say thank you to everyone who replied. It was helpful both to me and my wife as we've been weighing options. I appreciated the video as well. Has anyone here read his book? I'm curious. Anyways, I'm feeling more clarity and firmness about having the surgery....December 1 is marching toward us. And I've been talking with the hospital and my clinic. Just wanted to say thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Aetna Insurance Help

I've got Aetna and I left it up to my case manager. Figured it would work out if it was meant to be. I was approved for the sleeve last week. Bmi of 39 and several co morbidities Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Thanks for your support and feedback. It means a lot! I think one of the things that threw me for a loop was a conversation I had with my long time counselor. She has helped me work through some things in the past and so I scheduled an appointment to talk over my surgery. She reacted beyond negatively about the idea encouraged to seriously reconsider. She told me she has more than a handful of patients who after seeing the surgery fail are now depressed and even suicidal. From her perspective there is little long-term success ever for this. And the best possible diet is a plant-based diet. I really trust her judgment because she's helped me so much in the past and yet what she was saying it so far different from the general positivity on this forum and even among the literature. And so like I said her divergent point of view really threw me for a loop. I'm sorting through it. And yeah, it's a great thing my date isn't until December. Plenty of Time to reschedule or go forward either way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Hi all thank you for the replies. I resonate especially with sleevenv's point that clarity is really important before proceeding. One way or another. I simply don't have it yet. One thing I've been thinking about though: is that if I come into this surgery with the mindset that it's a last ditch effort, then it if doesn't go perfectly, I'm setting myself up for greater disappointment or even shame. But on the other end, if I go into it like "oh maybe I'll get healthy and maybe I won't...whatever happens happens" then I might not take the lifestyle seriously enough on the other side. I know - I'm overthinking it probably. Haha. Anyways, thanks for the input. And if anyone else has more, I'm all ears. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
