  1. I had pain under my rib for quite a while. I also notice that I am getting full faster now...I think my stomach healed more or something since surgery. My hospital had a very strict diet guideline after surgery and I wasn't allowed solid food until 6 weeks post-op...not even soft food. I think as time goes on you will notice yourself getting full much faster and everything will work itself out...or your will find that your surgeon made the pouch larger. Good luck to you.
  2. I am guessing it is your body adjusting to the change in diet. You are getting a lot more of your nutrition through fluids than you probably were before. I had the same thing on the liquid diet (which seems to last forever). I am just now starting to get my system somewhat back to where it was, but my poop is still not as solid as it used to be (TMI I know). Good luck to you.
  3. I would definitely contact the surgeon to see if something is wrong with the pouch. I am over 2 months out and I still have trouble with getting more than 800 calories. I still supplement with 1-2 Protein shakes to make sure I am getting enough protein because I am full after a few bites of pretty much anything (other than fish and seafood). Good luck on your journey. It is the best decision I have ever made. I had my first bite of birthday cake and could only eat a couple...but it was the best birthday cake I have ever eaten. My outlook with food and life has changed so much since having this surgery and I hope you feel that way too.

    Tasting foods

I have tasted the things I have cravings for and we had surgery around the same time. Trust me...your body will tell you whether or not it is a good idea. I had RNY and had Indian the other night...it was also the first time I threw up after surgery. Some foods will not sit well and you will know it pretty quick. Your surgery is another tool that definitely helps you control what and how much you eat. I am looking forward to birthday cake today...of course it will be a bite and not 3 pieces, but I will be satisfied and it is the best feeling ever.
  5. My kids are 9, 7, and 6 and they were pretty helpful during my recovery. They knew what was going on and came to see me at the hospital. My littlest one spent lots of time in the hospital, so she knew mommy was sore. I was also really crabby when I came home and that was harder for them to adjust to, but they did. I did overdo it a few times and trust me...you will know when that happens. I took naps every day too and that seemed to help.

    Oh CRAP

That is how I feel today...like I have been o. The toilet all day long. I am 8 days post op and feel much better than I expected but this potty thing kind of took me by surprise. Did anyone else e periwnce this? Today starts my increase in protein to 60 grams from 30 so maybe that's it. Please just tell me this is normal and will get better soon.

    Pre Op Diet Day 5

I haven't really told anyone either, but I will definitely tell if someone asks. I know people still think WLS is taking the easy way out to weight loss, but I am hoping to educate those people...this is going to be my tool. I am lucky to have a good support system...my husband is very supportive and my mom had WLS 15 years ago. You are doing this for your health...always remember that.
  8. I have found that adding unflavored Protein powder and unflavored liquid Protein are my friends. I plan to use them in anything I can because there are so many things I really don't like. Good luck and share any good recipes you find.

    Newbie/Aetna/40 BMI

I can tell you that with my insurance, Medical Mutual, you have to have at least one year history of over 40 BMI if you don't have any co-morbidity. I was in the same situation as you and kind of cheated a little to get mine done. I slouched down when they measured me and it took almost 2 inches off my height. This made me shorter, so my weight (even from my primary doctor) still looked like I was at or near 40 for the year. The hardest part was the 3 month diet my insurance requires because I could NOT lose any weight, but you have to show that you made changes in your diet. My RNY is tomorrow and I have lost over 15 pounds on the 2 week pre-op diet. Good luck to you.

    TOMORROW! EXCITED AND SCARED

Thank you both for the kind words. I know that the worry is normally worse than the actual outcome...just wish I didn't have so much worry on my mind. My team is great and I know they have had very few complications and I am having the RNY because it has been around so long. You are right...I have spent a long time getting ready for tomorrow...even lost 15 pounds on my pre-op diet. Thank you again...I am feeling a little calmer.
  11. My big day is tomorrow and I am excited, scared, nervous, and can't stop thinking and praying that everything goes well for me. I am looking forward to having another tool to help in my weight loss journey that I have been on all my life. The only worry I continue to have is the possibility of complications. My BMI is not too bad which my advocate tells me is a plus, but I can't seem to get these thoughts out of my head. Any thoughts or ideas to calm my nerves?
  12. I am your surgery twin. I am also scheduled for August 12th...tomorrow. EEEK...scared, nervous, and praying for no complications...everything else I am pretty certain I can deal with. I will pray for a peaceful day today for you...I know I am praying for that for myself.

    Protein intake

Depending on what flavor you like...I am pre-op and love vanilla premier shake with sugar free caramel syrup. I could seriously live on this...I also love caramel. There are many different sugar free flavors available...just put it in the vanilla shake and drink it cold. My dietitian also told me to use MIO and Crystal Light if I want some fruity flavors instead of my caramel.
  14. Coins and scooching down to lower my height is what I used to get my surgery approved and get to 40%. I have no other medical issues right now (I am guessing if I continued with my 37% BMI I would develop them in short order). I think the hoops are a little crazy when you are talking a few pounds.

    Tomorrow is my big day

Sending prayers your way for an easy surgery and recovery.
