Carl Dickenson, I had my surgery on August 18, 2015. I am just starting to be able to eat eggs. I can eat anything...but eggs make me nauseous. This morning, I had a fried eggs and for the first time, it was delicious! I am getting back to normal.

Thank you, I do feel awesome. 1/3 of my insulin, 1/2 high blood pressure, lots more energy and feel so much better. A bit hard at the beginning but, I wanted it so much it helped.

  4. Treated myself to a 1/2 way to goal gift...a new purse & wallet. I will carry it until I meet goal as a reminder of how far I've come and that I need to continue to make good choices.

Just think about your surgery coming. You are almost there! The pre op diet is actually the worst part. Liquid diet included. But, it means you ARE getting your surgery and that is positive. You will be ok, look to the future!

  7. Will I ever not feel like an impostor shopping in the non-plus size section? I keep thinking a sales clerk will redirect me to the plus sizes.

Went to Bealls to buy a summer dress today. I was looking at size 14 and felt self conscious that people would wonder why am I looking at dresses obviously too small for me! They FIT, bought 2.

I am sorry they did that to you.

Get on the phone or go in person if you can and bug them about what they can do for you. They have already approved you, they owe you an explanation and how they will solve this for you so you can improve your health.

Good luck, hopefully they won't make you wait too long.

Chunky, anemia should not be difficult to correct. B12, extra iron and you should be ready for your surgery in no time. Don't get discouraged, mine was cancelled twice, almost had a fit. I finally had my bypass on August 18 and am feeling great.

It will happen before you know it.

  11. Maybe I should try protein shakes now while I’m on my full liquid pre-op diet. Any protein drinks suggestions? Is it true even if I found one drink I like, pre op I might think its gross? Question, questions???

    1. Madeleine Renee

      Madeleine Renee

the protein shakes will definitely keep your appetite in control. I really like the Premier shakes, you can find them at Costco. I like chocolate and vanilla, I have not tried strawberry. You have to carefully read what the label says on the shakes, some have very high calories and carbs, I don't think that is very good. The Premier have 170 calories and 5g of carbs, that is excellent. Good luck.

  12. Tips on breaking a stall, anyone?

    1. Madeleine Renee

      Madeleine Renee

Check exactly how much you have been eating, increase your activity level, walk a little longer, make sure you hydrate enough, it will start falling off again, you see.

  13. 11 days post op - off pain meds for two days - stitches healing nicely, down 9 lbs since surgery. Sooooo tired

    1. Madeleine Renee

      Madeleine Renee

Yes, being tired is part of the deal. Go for a little walk outside even if it is only 5-10 min, fresh air helps.

  14. Down 20 lbs OVERALL (pre & post op weight loss) - and my clothes still fit the same. Grrr. I bet if I gained it all back I wouldn't be able to squeeze into them again.

    1. Madeleine Renee

      Madeleine Renee

You lost fat but you are still swollen with water. I am 4 weeks off, lost 23 lbs, I can tell in my clothes but my belly is still pretty swollen and hard in places. It will all work out in the end. Don't get discouraged, 20 lbs, you are doing something right.

  16. $92,140.43 was billed for my sleeve surgery and the surgery a few hours later due to complications!!! I am again reminded how lucky I am to have insurance. Obama care required BCBS to accept me despite my pre-existing conditions. Now I am off all meds and headed to a healthier life. My heart is filled with gratitude that I didn't have to wait for Medicare to have healthcare. I will not waste this tool.

    1. Madeleine Renee

      Madeleine Renee

Fantastic for the insurance covering that bill. And to think all the negative press and aggressive comments Obama has to endure, he did good. I am Canadian, we admire him a lot.

    1. Madeleine Renee

      Madeleine Renee

wow, you were not given a booklet with what to do pre-op?

you cannot survive 2 weeks on water and crystal light!

get some protein shakes , 3 a day would give you about 90 g of protein.

I had my surgery August 18, 1 week ago today. Don't you have a meal plan? You should start eating yogourt, light soups with protein added, pureed fruits, lots of stuff. I have it all planned for me until week 5 where it gets more general.

I hope your dietitian knows about bypass and she can help you come up with a real meal plan.

      Good luck!

  20. Depression starting to kick in. I view this web site and read all the stories and look at the pictures of everyone who is starting a new life. I still don't know if I'll be approved for the surgery and may not know for the next 5 yrs. Surely if there is a waiting list of 5 yrs wouldn't someone still get in touch with me before hand? Okay, living in Canada we are use to waiting for certian specialists. I waited one full year to see an arthritis specialist. But come on!!!! No doctor in this city does bariactric surgery and it's so necessary that the doctor has 5 years of patients before me?!!? This just sucks. I'm going to have to just forget about this site and the surgery if I'm going to make it to 5yrs from now to see if I can have the surgery or not. F*ck it, I've always been fat and alone. this site is wonderful for those who don't have to wait but torture for those still stuck. I'm out , or I'll be boo hooing for months. Learned a lot here and may see you all in 2020.

I live in Quebec, my endocrinologist wrote a letter to the Bariatric surgeon. He saw me 2 months later and approved me on the spot.

I am having my surgery in 2 days, August 18. That is strange you have to wait this long, where do you live?
