    Whoa! Classification change

    I know what you mean!! I had to laugh at myself when I got excited over being morbidly obese. I also decided on the surgery for certain when I realized I was beyond morbidly obese.

    Help..idk what to do

    I was sleeve nearly 10 weeks ago and it is the best decision I ever made. I am a slower loser than most but as long as I am losing, I am happy. The main thing no matter what you have done, is you have to be prepared for a complete lifestyle change than what all of us have been living to get here. Just be prepared mentally and you will do great. The better the surgeon the higher chance of success and less complications

    I Don't Know What to Eat! Help!

    My NUTs main advise with each stage was "add foods as you can tolerate them." Don't force yourself to eat what your sleeve doesn't want yet. I still can't eat any type of shredded beef because no matter how much I chew it hurts going down. Try something and if it hurts wait a few weeks. I also buy the individual prepackaged tuna and salmon that comes in different flavors. Greek yogurt in different flavors has become a staple with me. I am nearly 10 weeks out and I just this week tried leafy greens and most fruits.

    My daughter has one and LOVES it. She says it is worth every dime. I will get one as I get more active
  5. I started out only weighing weekly. Here lately I weigh daily. Of course I understand there will be fluctuations. I only write down my weight once a week. I do only measure once a month. Right after surgery I lost 3 pounds a week a few times but since then I have consistently lost 1 to 2 pounds a week. It has been a gradual progression. I'm happy with any loss. My goal is to be at onederland by the new year. So far I am 38 pounds down. However often you weigh, don't let the scale get you down.

  7. I stayed at the recovery house when I had my surgery in June and it was great! It was nice having Juan available for any of our needs. It was a great experience. I didn't mind sharing the house with other patients. Met some really great people.
  8. Dr Lopez is great!! He sleeved me on June 15th and I have had no issues. He is great and the staff at the Sante Fe Clinique are amazing

    Alchohol

    My surgeon says alcohol is not allowed at the 15 day mark. Your stomach is healing plus it's empty calories. Ask your doctor and your NUT

    Snacking

    When I feel the desire to snack I eat Greek yogurt and P3 protein packs from Oscar Meyer. Don't give up. 60 pounds is wonderful!

    New here :)

    I didn't have the same experience as you. I never threw up and especially not blood. I have minimal pain from the incisions. The most uncomfortable I was, came from laying down snd turning over from side to side. I solved that issue with a small pillow I would hold against my stomach when I turned over. I had been told it would be painful and I expected the worse! I'm sorry you had such a difficult time. I'm also glad it is getting better for you!

  14. Several years ago I found myself in a similar situation. I was single and without work and the day I took $5 to the store and myself and my kids bread and ramen noodles so we could eat I swallowed my pride and applied for government assistance. The day we got our card to purchase food we went straight to the store to pick up food and have s picnic. We bought a roasted chicken, potatoe salad and a loaf of bread. When I got to the counter they said that the chicken and potatoes didn't qualify because they were pre-prepared but we could get cokes and candy bars. Made no sense to me. Luckily we made it through that rough time and really learned to appreciate the things we had and our ability to eat.

    Hungry!

    I was allowed my protein drinks during the clear liquid phase. I would have my protein shakes, clear broths, SF Popsicles, water. I was allowed jello but I didn't have during that phase. I returned home from the hospital four days after surgery so I only had four days to deal with clear liquids. Each phase gets easier. Just keep telling yourself..."I am healing. I am healing." You can do it!!

    Wow.... Nutrition

    I think my brain my explode. It is amazing to me what I did not know about Nutrition and how much I have learned through this process. It's no wonder I have been obese for so long. I realize a lot of you may already know this stuff or have learned it from your nutritionist but I have had to figure this stuff out on my own. So, I am going to impart some of what I have learned on the assumption that I am not the only clueless person here ????. And if I am the only clueless person, please be gentle lol. 1. Balanced nutrition - Protein, carbs, and fats. An emphasis is certainly put on protein. It is the priority. However, Carbs and fats are also important. The balance of nutrition should be as close as we can get to: carbs - 40-50% of daily calories; protein - (women) 46% - (men) 56% of calorie intake; this doesn't leave much room for fat. The reason is fats contain 9 calories per gram whereas Proteins and carbs contain 7 calories per gram so less is required. Carbs - this is your body's main source of energy. If you don't consume enough carbs, your body will then begin to burn protein (which is vital in WLS). Get healthy sources of protein from Apple juice, apple sauce, Potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruits, legumes, oatmeal, milks, etc. This is where I was making my mistake. Because Of this I was weak and tired and losing slowly. Protein - this is our priority during WLS. You will be pounded protein protein protein. One important thing to keep in mind.... The human body can only absorb 20-30 grams of protein per hour. Anything consumed above this amount is converted to glucose. So if you pad your protein intake by adding protein to a Protein shake, you are actually drinking a high glucose protein shake. In addition, you are falling short on your daily protein requirement because some has been converted to glucose. Fat - there are so many hidden fats in our foods even if you eat healthy. If you eat a banana to get your carbs, they have fats. Avocados have fats. If you wisely choose 3 ounces of grilled salmon it contains 10 gr of fat and at a low calorie intake that could be close to your total allowance. If you use MyFitnessPal, you can go into your goals and nutrition. You can put in your daily calories you expect depending on your phase. Mine is set at 700 right now 5 weeks post op. Earlier phases will have less calories. Once you have your calories set, you can adjust your daily allowance of proteins, carbs and fats. When trying to decide how to calculate your percentages, never let your proteins get below 60 gr per day. PLEASE.... If there is any other vital info that anyone has, share it here as well. I am really enjoying learning about nutrition and heathy eating.

  21. I think most people consider WLS to be a private matter. I don't figure people don't care, I suspect they are respecting your privacy.
  22. For me this is something I have to be constantly diligent about. I have a 30 minute timer on my phone that I will start after drinking and after eating. The hardest part is eating out and convincing the wait staff that they do not need to bring me anything.
  23. If they gave you a post-op paperwork showing your doctor's recommended clear liquid for the week following surgery, go by that.
  24. My doctor allowed all of those. My clear liquid included protein shakes, SF Popsicles, jello, broths. I also drank isopure protein water. Some don't like it, but I love it.

    Self Pay - Will Travel

    I went through BariatricPal and it was all inclusive. The price is extremely reasonable. They took very good care of me and made sure all of my needs were met. I chose Dr Jesus Martin Lopez and I am convinced his expertise is the reason I have had NO issues. I was barely sore. I was walking immediately. No nausea. And I healed very well. The Santa Fe clinic may not be as fancy as some facilities but the Dr and his staff and all of the doctors working there are amazing! I was sleeved on 6-15 and will be traveling there with a friend for her to be sleeved on 8-15. I am within a few pounds of a 40 pound loss and hope to reach that by next week. Going out of the country can be intimidating for some but they are professional and friendly and go above and beyond to take care of you. Highly recommended
