Appointment #1 with surgeon went well. Now I have to meet my requirments as I'm shooting for a late June surgery date. I need an EKG, Blood work, Psych eval, and 1 pre-op class, and then I'm ready!!! I have my appointment with my primary care Dr. on 8/21 to do everything except psych. Hoping for the best and a smooth next step

My insurance says: All of the following conditions must be met to qualify: You're at least 18 years old or you must provide documentation of completion of bone growth. You were unsuccessful with non-surgical medical treatments for obesity. Your medical records must show your failed attempts.Diet programs, such as Weight Watchers®* and Jenny Craig*, are acceptable methods of dietary management, as long as there are monthly clinical visits with your doctor and medical documentation of your participation and your progress throughout the course of the dietary program. *These programs are not covered by TRICARE. Physician-supervised programs made-up of only weight-loss medication management, do not meet this requirement. You have proof of one of the following:A body-mass index greater than or equal to 40 kilograms per meter squared (kg/m2); or A body-mass index of 35-39.9 kg/m2 with one clinically significant comorbidity, including but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obstructive sleep apnea, Pickwickian syndrome, hypertension, coronary artery disease, obesity-related cardiomyopathy, or pulmonary hypertension. I am 5'7 and 219 which makes me about 34 BMI. I don't want to get declined. I have 4 comorbidities but not sure if that matters if I am no 35 BMI at my first appointment on May 12th. Any suggestions?

Telling my friends/family/work
Tiana Harris replied to Tiana Harris's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all the great replies. I think I will keep it to my close friends and family. I already felt weird telling my best friend and she was like, "is that really necessary? Why? Go to the gym?" So I don't think I will be telling everyone. -

Diet / Weight Loss
Tiana Harris replied to Tiana Harris's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@TLW Thanks! I REALLY hope I don't have to do a 3 or 6 month dietician visits. I have been supervisied by 4 doctors since 2005 with no luck. I have tried every crazy diet and pill and medication and workout known to man. I did Insanity and T25 and lost it and the next week gained it right back. I even went vegetarian and no salt no carb no sugar and still gained. Its frustrating! Everyone says I carry my weight well and don't look over 200lbs but my knees and back beg to differ. I hope RNY is my savior too to somehow reset my body and life. -

Diet / Weight Loss
Tiana Harris replied to Tiana Harris's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@bahuber5477I have comorbidities such as ahtritis in my back and knees, PCOS, pre-diabetes, infertility and GERD so after many years of medications, strict dieting under 800 calories a day and walking 2 miles a day + 45mins of cardio a day and just gaining and gaining my doctors agreed this would be the best option. -

I hope with the comorbitites (sp?) I won't have all that waiting. I have been on a 800 cal diet for 1 year and workout 45 mins per day too. I need to learn to chew instead of "vacuum " my food. Haha. I don't drink or smoke or eat fast food or drink sofa so that part won't be bad. Thanks so much!

Insurance Approved. Doctor Chosen. Newbie
Tiana Harris posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I am 31 years old diagnosed with PCOS and pre-diabetic with early arthritis in my lower back and knees. My BMI is 34. I got a referral from my doctor last week, did my application with UCLA Bariatic Surgery for a roux-en-y procedure and am waiting for an appointment. I live in Los Angeles and have struggled with my weight since 2003 from 130lbs to 223lbs to 145lbs now back at 219lbs. Any tips for my first appointment would be appreciated. -
