51 here and had it done May 15th. Very happy with a decision that took me a long time to come to. Good luck!

I had my sleeve as an outpatient. Arrived at hospital at 5:30 am, surgery at 7:30 am, home at 1:30 pm. I did fine and was glad to be home. After surgery I went to recovery and when I woke I came back upstairs, walked around the halls and had to pee before being released.
You will do fine, just follow instructions! Good luck!

ShrinkingPeach got a reaction from NewSetOfCurves in Anyone starting weight at 200 lbs? Help :)
As you will read all over this forum the surgery is just a tool. Everyone has a different result. You should look at this as a lifestyle change and not a sprint. If you lose the 60-70 pounds you want to lose then you are a success. It won't come off in one month for sure. Have realistic expectations!
Stick to the plan given you and you will do great! Good luck!

That it would be difficult to get down much Fluid for the first few days and to not panic. Your tummy is healing and you must constantly sip a little to get as much as you can in.
To get my behind in the gym sooner for better results.
Something I knew but just want to pass along...take your measurements for the times the scale isn't moving and take pics. You will see changes even when the scale doesn't budge!

ShrinkingPeach reacted to LipstickLady in Calorie absorption. Wishful thinking?
Your body will absorb every single one of those calories. That said, I am not one that believes in total abstinence or substitution because no matter how many work around you try to eat, you will end up consuming that ice cream, too.

Go get a kiddie sized and enjoy it. Don't bring it home, don't eat it in your car, eat it at the place and eat it slowly so you actually taste it. I think half my problem with obesity was how quickly I horsed my food down. I was never satisfied because I never enjoyed it.

If you want more, it will be there next week, next month, next year. Eat a little and follow it up with a jog, a hike, a swim. Or better, exercise in advance and then treat yourself to a bit of Rocky Road.

ShrinkingPeach got a reaction from Julie_vsg_053116 in My surgery is Tuesday ! Wondering about recovery !
Everyone's surgery experience is different but for me, I was sleeved as an outpatient and took 11 days off. I was off pain meds and driving on day 5. I got tired pretty quickly but recovered just fine. I am at my desk a lot at work so I did fine.
Definitely plan on keeping fluids handy and you will do great! Wishing you the best!

People take different approaches to their diet in both weight loss and maintenance. In maintenance, I stay grain-free (and carby veggie free and sweets-free) about 95% of the time. I can and do order carne asada burritos but I use a fork and eat the insides, not the tortilla. Same with tacos and any other kind of sandwiches. The inside is generally fine, not whatever is holding it. That's my plan though, other people are more or less strict than I am. You have to find what works for you. I do think it is a good idea to acknowledge that it is at least possible that things like tacos, burritos, sandwiches, pizza, Bagels, french fries, Cookies, etc. MIGHT have to be off the menu permanently.

@@ZillyNa Here in the States, they are very careful to select the correct patient and the correct procedure. They should ask you several times for your name and DOB and what procedure you are having - they should also check the information with your hospital Bracelet (assuming you have one). If they don't - ask them - several times if you need to feel comfortable. In terms of being nervous, can they give you something to relax you? Don't hesitate to ask for something. Good luck and many prayers!

ShrinkingPeach got a reaction from jane13 in Old Timers-What is the point of WLS if many regain/have hunger/diet drama..
I would say to you that we have the surgery because nothing else worked. People who regain the weight don't take it seriously and think the surgery is the answer. The surgery is a tool and you must change your habits forever. This isn't a diet. It isn't a race to the finish. It is a life long marathon. To be of any success it takes time and patience, a commitment to the plan and hard choices.
Yes, some people regain the weight but that doesn't mean you have to. There are also people out there who are years post-op and are still at goal. You can do this!
