NCTRNL got a reaction from sillykitty in Vsg slider foods
I'm about 5 years out and I can in my experience, I can definitely eat more than I could 6 months after surgery, but if I eat "correctly", the amount I eat is much closer to that 6-month amount. When I start eating junk food, I notice I can eat quite a bit more of it. My "tool" still works if I let it. But I can easily navigate around it if I want to.

My doctor gave almost the exact same instructions. I do have to say it may have been the most eye opening part of the whole process for me. Seeing how ingrained meals were in my daily routine blew my mind. I lost almost 30 in that two weeks and it was a good kickstart. It's extremely hard...but you will learn a lot.

I was wearing 52's before and now I'm wearing 42's...who knows where I'll end up but it's pretty damn cool how much everything has changed.

Well just one friend really but it's been a very interesting experience. My wife is 1000% supportive and I don't have any worries at all that WLS will cause any problems with my marriage. What it does seem to be causing issues in is my relationship with my best friend.
It didn't take a lot of reflection to realize that a large part of my relationship with my best friend, in the past, has revolved around eating and drinking. Now it's like we don't have much to do when we hang out. It's pretty interesting so far and I'm really only 8 weeks into this process. I'm sure it will even itself out but I thought some of you on here might have the same issues.

I really can't imagine a situation where mashed potatoes would EVER be a good idea. They're pure carbohydrates. Can you have fat free refried Beans? I really like the refried black beans...they were the best during that part of the diet.

I'm 7 days into my 2 week pre-op. I had what felt like a whole week of food funerals. Pad Thai, steak, chicken Parmesan, all kinds of stuff. After 7 days of this diet, drinking Protein shakes is like taking medicine. It's a very weird feeling knowing it will be months before I eat a "normal" meal again. I just try to keep focused on why I am going through this and what will be gained.
On the upside, I had to go by my surgeon's office after 4 days of the diet and had already lost 12lbs.

I had surgery on 6/2/15. Started at 445, lost 26 in the 2-week liquid diet, down 30 since surgery. I honestly thought it would come off quicker but I'm just going with it right now...

I've been searching all over the place for more info on this but I'm bored at work and I just decided to go ahead and ask you guys.
I had my surgery on 6/2, Started at 445, 419 at surgery, 397 now.
Everything is going well but I'm just trying to get an idea of what kind of weight you GUYS lost month to month. I know I'm just obsessing but I've been trying to search and find this stuff and I'm not having a ton of luck.

It is really odd to me how different every Dr. is. I was sleeved on 6/2. Day 1-2 Clear Liquids, Day 3-6 yogurt, cream of wheat, day 7-13 Soft egg, refried Beans, cottage cheese, week 3-4 is moving to some solids like deli meat and other things. I never knew I would love refried Beans as much as I do right now.

My husband brought our four year old to visit me both afternoons I was there. My child is well behaved in public and I had a private room. She just came in and sat down. She didn't really know what to think. I say let your wife bring her. It is nice to get a kiss from them when we are gone for the night. Just know that if your child isn't tolerating the visit well that your wife may need to leave early

NCTRNL reacted to AngelJoyD in Just got my surgery date (6/23) and now the nerves hit!
    Hi all,
I can't tell you how much this forum has helped answer my questions, calm my nerves, and encouraged me to pursue WLS. I've been lurking for several months as I jump through all the pre-surgery hoops, but just found out yesterday that my insurance approved the surgery and I'm scheduled for 6/23/15!
    My stats:
    Age: 35
    Gender: Female
    Height: 5'6"
    HW: 256
    CW: 242 (BMI 39)
    GW: 145
I'm ecstatic, but suddenly it's all getting real and I'm a little overwhelmed. I think that, because my BMI is on the low-end of the scale (wavering between 39 and 40), I'm now questioning if I should take such a drastic step to lose weight. I mean, I have a boyfriend who loves me as I am, I'm pretty functional, and sometimes even feel attractive. But then I remember that my weight has been on a steady upward trajectory for my whole life, despite frantic efforts to stop it, and nothing else has worked. My last physical showed that I suddenly have pre-diabetes and high cholesterol, I found out I have sleep apnea, and my joints hurt like I'm 80 years old. I don't want to live like this anymore, much less face what is likely to come in the future if I don't do the surgery. I want to be free to shop in normal stores (not plus sized or hope that a store carries XXL or even more). I want to be active and enjoy this phase in my life. I want to feel attractive and free, instead of the constant nagging voice in my head - "stick out your chin so you don't get double/triple chin while you're talking," "cross your legs differently so the person in front of you doesn't get a full slab of cellulite in their vision," "pull down your shirt to cover your pooch," "pull up your pants to hide your muffin top," "you're the fattest person in this room," "don't stoop, you look bigger," "DELETE ALL TAGGED PICTURES ON FB THAT AREN'T FLATTERING OR FROM YOUR APPROVED CAMERA ANGLE!" It's exhausting and I'm ready to focus on life and actually living instead. I'm excited to start yoga, and try surfing (renting a wetsuit might be possible soon! and without getting mistaken for an injured sea lion!), and not stress every single day about what I can possibly wear that will be flattering.
So, wish me luck, everyone! I leave for Cambodia for 10 days tomorrow for a research trip, so I'm trying to get my head in that game right now, but as soon as I'm back, it's liquid diet and prep time! Eek!!

NCTRNL got a reaction from anikka in Green smoothies on pre-op diet...anyone?
Nope, mine is pretty strict. Most green smoothies have fruit or agave nectar or honey or something else to sweeten them. That would effectively ruin the point of the pre-op diet. Just suck down the Protein Shakes like the rest of us...

I am on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet. Getting sleeved on 6/2. Obviously it has had its ups and downs but overall I feel like it's going ok. I'm just doing 4 Premier Protein Ready to Drink shakes/day. Just kinda taking it a step at a time and I keep reminding myself of the reasons and goals of doing this. It's amazing how many behaviors you realize are focused squarely on eating. Driving home from work: TIME FOR dinner, meeting up with a friend: LUNCH!.
I'm sure it'll get worse by the end of the 2 weeks but I know it's possible and I'm hoping I get a big weight loss boost from this before surgery!

Walmart also has Premier Protein. My costco has vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry but after 5 days they all taste the same.
Good news though...I'm down 12lbs in 4 days.
