I have always loved the gym (former football/baseball player) even when I was big after my playing days I loved lifting weights! When I lost weight and got in shape to join the Army I was a 7 day a week exerciser! 6 days of P90X and also running or lifting weights on top of the P90X! I was bench pressing over 400lbs and my squats were in the high 400s as well! I Joined the Army weighing 272 but was at 14% body fat, after my injury I was not able to lift any more because of the pain, which caused me to gain 125 lbs! Since my surgery I have lost that 125 and then some, I go to the gym 3 days a week and work out with my baseball players I coach! They hate when they get punished and I do the exercises with then b/c they know they are working till I get tired!
I can't lift as much as I used to but I feel the strength coming back fast! The difference in the gym now is I see my muscle tone developing whereas before I would just get "big", so, that just motivates me more.
This is all to myself better but it is also pretty awesome that my wife can't stop rubbing my chest and arms. When we are out I know another female is has been "caught" checking me out b/c the wife has a big grin on her face and snuggles a little tighter.

Same clothes left is the day I was discharged from the hospital (the lady was my nurse. Everybody thought it was funny how short she is next to me). The right is last month at my 5 month post op. At that point I was down about 90 lbs since surgery. I have dropped another 26lbs since then.

Friday was my 6 month (at 7 months? post op follow up visit. My BP was 110/57 HR was 76 Amy cholesterol 135 overall LDL 43 HDL 85 all other blood panels were in the normal range A1c was 4.1and my body fat is down to 20%! The Dr. was extatic about my results! He said that by far I am his most successful patient at the VA! My skin is healing well I have some loose skin but looks like it is still young and will probably not need to have any removed as it is not hanging and my muscle building will help for it to "go back to normal"!
Another NSV is my energy level, my family and are are getting ready to move across country (for me to continue my education I was accepted to Colorado State University) and I have been loading the moving pods all weekend and have done most of the heavy-lifting myself. I am not tired or sore I worked all day both Saturday and yesterday and was like the energizer bunny, I just kept going and going.

No, it seems more like a lack of willpower. Yes, we All had issues with the way we ate before surgery, that is why we got to where we were. The surgery is not a magic pill that will automatically make you "skinny" or change your mindset towards food. It is something you have to fight for. The diet plans given to us by our Drs. And NUTs. are a comprehensive plan to help with healing both our physical and mental outlook. The early stages are to help with not only the healing from surgery, but, also to start to detox our body from the sugar dependants we became accustom to. If you stick to the plan to a T you will find that over time you will change the way you look at all food not just the "bad foods".
It is a process and not an overnight fix. It is a battle everytime you have a craving. Eventually the cravings become fewer and farther apart.
Nobody on here is saying they are perfect, but, are truly worried for your safety and success on this journey. We have all slipped up one way or another and have heard of tragic things that happen to people who have not done "the right things" so we pass on our wisdom to the newbies so they do not fall into the same situations. Don't take their advise so defensively but with an open mind, one day you to will be a "veteran" at this and pass on your wisdom to the newbies then and this will be one of those situations you can pass on first-hand experience about. Good luck, be stronger than the temptations, you can do this!
