  1. I was supposed to get prescribed some for PCOS but my PCP and Surgeon felt it would be best I start them a month or two after surgery. When I asked why, they said it is something new to introduce to the body and it is better to wait once I've healed a bit, they also said it could interfere with weight loss, so I should be careful with my intake when I do get on them. I will be starting them soon, until then been very cautious with condoms and using the calendar method to avoid an oops. I too was informed the increased fertility is an issue.
  2. Found out it's normal after vomiting to have some pink, especially this early, it's just muscle straining from the contractions in the stomach, and the rectal spotting was due to internal hemorrhoids, stool softeners should help with that!

    Emotional Wreck

    This is all so normal, I can completely relate! I'm about a month out and it has been quite the journey from post to pre-op. I promise you it does stabilize but it requires a lot of patience toward yourself above anything else. Surrounding yourself with positive energy is so important. Post-op when I was on my liquid diet, I avoided a lot of my friends; though it seems unhealthy, they were very understanding. It just was the right thing to do to avoid surrounding myself with potential triggers with food and drink. I kept busy, continued my work, hobbies, and eventually the operation day came and I felt nervous but confident. The afterwards was the hardest part, still is -- your emotions will go through some insane changes, some based on hormones, others based on the trauma of the surgery. It gets so much better. I remember the first week, I cried so much fearing I couldn't eat ever again, telling myself I ruined myself (truthfully!) But now at 5 weeks, I am so happy with this decision. I just started on normal foods (slowly) and it has gotten easier, my energy levels are coming back, I am eating small but yummy foods again, I KNOW I will eventually be able to try more of my favorites (within moderation) and stay away from the awful ones that hurt me. If you're honest with the people in your life, be open and communicate. I had to explain every emotion to my boyfriend and family members so that they could respond appropriately to my needs; remember no one can read your mind! Also keep in mind, it's a chance to improve yourself, it is a lot of work but the other alternative is struggling with health in a more mentally demanding and exhausting manner. I made this decision to be healthy and feel good about myself; your heart will tell you if it's the right one for you.

    Fruit....

    Once I was cleared for soft fruits, specially melons, I live off Honeydew -- I don't see the harm in it. I've never had a sugary problem when I gained my weight. Fruit is good sugar from what I was informed by my NUT, so I try to incorporate it into my daily intake (a few pieces here and there.) I try to avoid really acidic stuff and things with fibers of course, but honeydew melons and pineapple chunks are sitting nicely in my tummy and giving me the boast I need.

    Thyroid Out of Whack

    I don't personally have experience on this matter, however my father suffers from thyroid issues, he started taking Coconut oil supplements and it's worked tremendously well for him. CO is great for you in general, but it does help with increasing energy among other things as well. Worth a shot!

    I feel your pain! Apparently it's normal, I'm on my 4th week and it's stalling bad. I'm going up and down two pounds every day. I hope to see a drop again soon.

    Vitamins

    Do you mean just general vitamins or specifically B12? I was told to do the sublingual ones (cherry!) you can get those anywhere. As far as other vitamins, I was told to do Flintstones Complete, Calrate 600s and I'm taking additional Vit D and Biotin for my own needs. Usually your doctor should tell you what to take, we were given a packet that included a list of approved vitamins and I picked these (since they go down easy..)

  10. @@glitter eyes I know my surgeon told me Protein, zinc and Iron also play a big role in the hair loss, but you shouldn't take the zinc supplements in high doses since it interferes with the iron absorption, but maybe eating more foods that have it like lamb or oysters!
  11. I'm only 4 weeks out, I haven't lost any hair (no more than usual shedding.) I know it's still rather early for me... It could be genetic how it effects everyone, but I was very strict with haircare prior to this surgery. I don't use sulfate products,I know to always avoid silicone/paraben hair styling products, drinking lots of Water and taking Aloe Vera, Vitamin E in addition to the Biotin should stabilize it. If you like tea, I've discovered White Tea and Rooibos help cleanse my skin and hair so much when I feel bad in general.

    weight gain

    It could be something more serious if you're gaining weight without a diet change. Perhaps a serious medical, hormonal or prescription issue? You said you moved too, maybe stress/depression; it plays a HUGE roll on weight gain/loss. Definitely be persistent in getting in touch with your doctors. I'm sorry they've been so difficult to deal with. Try to do an elimination diet, maybe the shakes aren't taking well to your body now after some time. I know when something works for me (even in a positive way) I find my body builds a tolerance for it and it never works the same way! I'm unsure if you can have two procedures entirely different from one another, but I'm sure it is possible. I can't imagine it being terribly healthy or wise though, I'm sure your surgeon would have a better understanding of your body.

  14. Hi there all, I'm just curious if anyone else is experiencing or has experienced a weight loss stall at week 3 post op. My initial surgery (3/16) weigh in was 245, I lost 23 lbs, now I'm suddenly yo-yoing between 224-226 for the past week. I did start soft foods, I am noticing more thirst as I eat, I am carefully watching sodium, fat, carb intake. Still meeting Fluid requirements, Protein intake is usually between 50-60g (this is normal accordingly to my NUT as I was struggling to get anywhere near 40 at first.) I'm also ovulating this week, and typically speaking I would gain a pound or two during this cycle phase. Will it pick up again? I'm a bit worried as I was told new food introductions will take time to adjust but still, really nervous. Thanks!
  15. I personally told my immediate family about it but kept everyone else out of the loop (I had a hernia repair so that was what I told them.) It isn't so much the shame that caused me to do this, it's the fact that most people, in addition to judgement seem really uneducated about WLS. Most people assume it's the easy way out, and I may only be 3 weeks post-op, but it has been one of the hardest journeys I have ever been through. You need strong support from people who understand what you're getting yourself into.
  16. You do look great! I too am already starting to worry -- I'm at my third week post-op and I lost 25 lbs right off the bat, now I see myself going up and down a pound every other day. My NUT also said as you introduce new foods into your diet, your body needs to adjust to it. I hope that is the case indeed!
  17. I love my spicy food too -- I'm at mushy food too, but just be cautious the stomach is susceptible to ulcers. Too much spicy could be harmful. I also try to crunch in a tortilla chip since I am allergic to gluten (NUT said I can have toast but this is my replacement) it works one or two chips with the refried beans.

    Ate too soon..

    I'm at the same stage as you and was told to try shrimp and tender white fish. It went down just fine for me, I wouldn't worry too much. Usually they say if something doesn't work well, to switch to liquid for at least half a day to help the stomach recoup. If the pain persists definitely contact your surgeon/nutritionist. Maybe you just need a bit more time before your ready for it again

    March 2015 Sleevers

    I'm doing the same thing! Since I actually had mine repaired too, it works. I even mention that due to my extremely problematic ulcers I am on a slow and developing diet (also true.) Two weeks out as of today and it's been really tough. Still not getting enough protein unfortunately but luckily fluids are going strong. I am having a lot of head hunger in addition to real hunger at this stage I smell food and I miss it. I am hoping it gets better!

    One Week Post Op

    I feel a similar pain! I'm currently two weeks out and can have the Water just fine but I can't stomach the Protein at all. Everything smells off to me. I discovered at first I would make an herbal tea and make sure it cooled down a bit and it went down easy. It definitely helped me stay hydrated as I slowly moved to colder water. Diluted cranberry juice also went down well too. Try changing the temps for your liquids! I hope it helps
