    The fear of regain is REAL!

    I am realizing this fear too. I'm almost 6 months out and over the last few weeks my eating habits have started to slide. I haven't been tracking food as diligently, and I've been snacking on carbs (a tootsie roll here, a handful of chips there, a cookie). I gained 1.2 lbs last week. There hasn't been any all out binges, but the grazing and "I will just have a little" mentality has sabotaged my weight loss this week. I love the fact that I'm no longer a plus size now that I've lost 90 lbs. I'm still 13 lbs from my goal though, and even that is at the upper limits of my BMI. This week has been a reality check, and makes me afraid that if I can revert back to this habits and gain so quickly in my "honeymoon" period maintenance is going to be another beast altogether. Time to get refocused!

    Today at the gym a woman I've never met approached me and said "I've seen you in a class we take together over the last couple of years, and I just wanted to let you know you look amazing". Seriously made my day! I'm 5 months out.

    What excess skin has been the most annoying?

    My boobs. Fortunately they stay covered and a good bra helps, but they will probably need to be fixed down the road!
  8. Oh how I know about sliming and frothing! My sleeve is starting to tolerate more 5 months out but still has trouble with chicken and eggs. Mostly I need to focus on not trying to overload it by trying to finish "the last bite"

  10. I make my own P3 protein packs with some low fat cheese, almonds, and low sodium deli meat or a boiled egg. Not sure that this is the best choice, but I have also found that 1 large chili from Wendy's will provide me with 3 lunches once portioned out! I also make some "skinny" deviled eggs using plain Greek yogurt instead of mayo that are a handy snack to keep in the fridge. If I'm desperate, a ready made premier protein shake is my meal, but I usually try to "eat" my meals rather than rely on shakes.

    Halloween Challenge!

    I'm late weighing in too. I was in Vegas for a conference all weekend. My weight this morning is 195.7
  13. I'm with the rest of the group in the fact that I could and did lose significant amounts of weight repeatedly in the past (50+ lbs) in the past with diet and exercise attempts. Maintaining that loss was where I failed. With my sleeve I've managed to lose more than I ever did with previous dieting attempts and don't feel like I'm alway white knuckling it trying to maintain my willpower. I'm not at maintenance yet (only 4 months out), but I'm 75% of the way to my goal weight and for the first time in my life actually feel confident I can get there!
  14. I feel like strangers seem more polite and acknowledge my presence rather than ignoring that I exist in passing on the street. They're not making catcalls or anything, but it's nice to get a polite smile occasionally. Store clerks seem more interested in seeing if i need help rather than ignoring me. My coworkers all know I had surgery and are very supportive/complementary. One negative is that my little sister and I have always been the two obese ones in the family out of 6 kids. We've also always been the closest to each other. Now that I've been losing a significant amount of weight I feel like she's withdrawing a bit from me. I try not to talk about what size I am or how much weight I've lost when we're on the phone. She is supportive, but I think hearing about my weight loss constantly only reminds her of her own weight problem since she and I used to be almost the same size (she was a tad bigger). I don't want her to feel like I am gloating or trying to rub it in when I talk to her, but it's hard not to want to call her up when I'm happy for being able to fit in a size medium top or 12-14 jeans! She's really my best friend, and I didn't anticipate this. My hope is that down the road she may decide to pursue surgery if she sees me be successful with losing the weight, but i don't want to push her since everyone come to this decision for their own reasons. For now, whenever I call (she lives in Canada and I live in AZ), I just try to stick to topics other than my weight/diet/exercise program.

    I should add that I'm the one doing the shopping so I get to determine what comes into the house. Chips and popcorn are allowed as they don't tempt me, but cake, tarts, chocolate/candy are forbidden! I'm 4 months out

    The grocery shopping gets easier. I still buy some foods I don't eat i.e. Bread, waffles, cereal etc for my boys. I buy a lot of yogurt, cheese, almonds, occasional deli meat for myself. As far as dinners go, I can pretty well eat whatever meat I am cooking for my family, plus a bit of the veggies, I just skip the rice/pasta/potatoes.

    Steak?

    Weirdly enough my sleeve does not get along well with chicken, but steak agrees with it! I love very rare steak, so it probably helps that it's very tender. I started at about two months post op with very small portions/bites and tolerate it fine

    Questions for Alcohol Drinkers ONLY!

    I waited three months and occasionally (once every 1-2 weeks) have a glass of wine. I used to be able to drink a whole bottle in an evening, now I buy the little 4 packs of 4oz bottles and can finish 1. No complications, no problems with addiction. I haven't even gotten tipsy off my 1 glass, but it makes me full so I don't continue to drink more.
  19. @@Stevehud, I may need to look into that heated sweatshirt and pick up some fingerless gloves. I've lost just over 80 lbs so far and the chills are setting in, but compared to the alternative I'll take it!!!

    What's for breakfast?!

    I eat about 4.5 oz dannon oikos triple zero vanilla yogurt with an oz of (thawed) triple berry frozen mixed berries over top each morning for breakfast. I do find that it fills me up, but I get hungry a couple hours later so I always pack a cheese string for a mid morning snack.

    How do you feel?

    For me personally it took about 6 weeks for my energy levels to improve. They were the worst during my two week preop diet as I'm pretty sure my body went through shock at the sudden calorie reduction!

    I had terrible foot pain before surgery too. Once I lost the first 50 lbs (I'm now down 82), my foot pain resolved. Now if only my feet would shrink from a size 11 to a ten...

    How Do You Get Yourself Out the Door to Exercise?

    My gym has a childcare center that my kids adore. Basically it has a bounce house, rock wall, video room, video game area and play area. They harass me if I don't go because they want to go! I've convinced them that we will only go 5 days per week as a compromise!

    IUDs

    I'm on my 3rd IUD now. I've had 2 previous copper ones and now have a Mirena. I did get pregnant with my 1st IUD (Paragard) in appropriate position, which I was told is about a 1/1000 chance. The second I had removed prior to a (planned) pregnancy. I have a Mirena now, and admittedly did not enjoy the 1st 6 months of irregular periods and spotting. Now I don't get my period at all anymore (except for the week after sleeve surgery!) and I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread! I plan on just getting it changed every 5 years until menopause occurs at this point. As far as pain with insertion, I will admit with my 1 st one that was inserted before I had had any children, I had some pretty bad cramps for 24 hours. Haven't had any issues with the other two insertions. I know it sounds disgusting, but my GYN recommended getting it inserted during your period as the cervix is slightly dilated.
