fuzzyfeline got a reaction from Sunshine_Gal in No One In The Sixties?
Hi Boomers. I'm 65 and 23 days post op. I'm not a grandmother but still looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. This is my 3d day of stalling at the same weight but I guess that's just my body reacting to the surgery and diet. I'm 32 lbs down from surgery and 45 since liquid diet. I'm healing nicely , feeling better each day. We are Boomers; we changed the world once and now we're changing ourselves.

Hi everyone. I'm 65 and 18 days post op. I'm looking forward to having a healthy rest of my life, with the ability to do things I haven't. I'm looking forward to buying one seat on a plane and not squeezing others out of theirs. I'm looking forward to taking a cruise and being able to get off the boat because I can walk down the pier without getting winded, and taking those sight seeing tours up front by getting off the bus. This is a bit off topic but it's ironic that while my gastric process is getting better, my cat's got worse. She went to visit her vet today because I could tell she wasn't acting right. The X-ray showed a blockage (probably hair) in her intestine and colon. The vet has her on saline to hydrate her and barium. I know pets can sympathize with their pet parents, but Misty is taking this to the extreme.

fuzzyfeline got a reaction from Long2BFree in Seeping pus/staph from sutures that opened up
On May 17 I posted about the pain I was in. Since then I saw my primary who sent me to the emergency room for a CT thinking it was divmetriculosis or my appendix. Ct was clean. Then I was given an ultra sound but that was clean too. By that time I was seeping a yellow liquid from my wound. My primary gave me 10 days of antibiotics. I called my surgeon several times; his nurse gave me an appointment on June 17, 4 weeks from my first phone call about the pain. While the pain has eased up a lot but not altogether though the seepage continues. I see members of the surgical team later this week. Meanwhile, I've been putting on weight. I think that bothers me the most. Thanks for reading this; I just needed to vent.

I still crave. I just know that I can't have and if I allow myself a bite of this or that it only validates me to have more. I have gone into a retaurant that is more of cafeteria style that lays out all their Desserts to grab. I didn't want them. I was more like a kid in a candy store when I passed through the salad area. I still crave, but my taste are changing. A few strawberries sound better than a chocolate sundae to me. A fresh peach satisfies the want for peach cobbler. The results I have seen beats the cravings.

I signed up for the FroYo5k a couple of weeks before surgery, and today was the day! There were a lot of people there and a ton of strollers, but in the areas where the course opened up, I ran. Not fast, but consistently. I would say I maybe ran just under half the total course. And it felt really good. My feet didn't hurt, my shins didn't burn, I was able to maintain my breathing, and I finished in less than 50 minutes! It's so much easier to move this body without an extra 52 lbs to slow me down and crush my knees. Now I feel a lot more confident about preparing for the Disneyland Half Marathon later this year.

I'm going to second what liannatx is saying. Weight/measure your food and really watch your macro-nutrients. Get your Protein in an keep those carbs low. I'm not sure a sample menu is going to really help because our tastes are all so different.
I try to keep it very simple to the point of boring because if I get too fancy, my calories go up. A lot of my meals are just 3oz of boneless, skinless chicken breast, a couple ounces of steamed broccoli and an egg white. Whatever you choose, make sure you're measuring to be sure you're not eating too much and then document it.
I was on a LONG stall. For 3 months I was stuck at a weight only losing and then regaining the same 3 pounds. It was CRAZY to me. I realize I wasn't truly gaining weight because I wasn't eating more than 800-1000 calories a day let alone the 3500 it takes to gain a pound. But when we take in calories we store excess either as fat or glycogen. To gain a pound of fat it takes an excess 3500 calories BUT each gram of glycogen is accompanied by 3 grams of Water so that's why we see these spikes when we weigh ourselves frequently especially if we've taken in a lot of sodium.
The reason I'd stalled so long was because I thought I didn't NEED to exercise. By a metabolic rate calculator says my BMR should be 2077 calories a day. So if I'm eating 800 calories I should be burning (just sitting around) 1200 calories more than I am taking in. So that should be a pound every 3 days. Guess what? Not happening. No matter what the BMR says, it wasn't happening and my stubborn and foolish self fought it. I INSISTED it SHOULD be that way. Maybe it should, but it wasn't. I started walking on a treadmill just 20 minutes a day at first and in just a couple of weeks I'm down 16 pounds. I'm still eating exactly the same but the small amount of exercise has been making the difference.
    Are you exercising?

I hope everyone's April surgery went well. Mine was on April 2. I'm down 30 and now at the 3d week stall. I'm enjoying a mechanized diet; this morning I had 2 slices of turkey bacon and a 1/4C scrambled egg. I'm still working on getting enough Protein in each day. How are each of you managing?

    Hello friend,
If age is flexible I'll be your friend. I had my RNY April 2, and in stage 2 of recovery. While I will have a monthly support group meeting, sharing experiences with someone else will aid recovery. Meanwhile, my 2 cats are giving me daily support and will send some to you too.

Finally after 15 years I am now in ONEderland! I never ever thought I would see a 1 in front of my weight. I will tell those who feel they are struggling that if I can do it ANYONE can do it. I'm not saying it's going to be easy but it's going to be worth it. 2 weeks ago I was crying because I was stalled at 211 and now I'm crying because I finally get to see the number 1 in front of my weight. Those that are "skinny" don't understand what a life-changing event it is and how something so simple as to have a 1 in front of your weight can make you so happy. Good luck to all and for the first time since having the surgery do I feel as though I'm going to succeed!!!

Sounds like you've got lots of choices. I was VSG, not bypass, but one thing I did was only try one new thing every few days. That way if I had an adverse reaction, I knew exactly what the culprit was. A friend of mine had bypass and there are definitely distinct foods and textures she can't handle with even 8 years out. Try and ease your new GI tract into new thing slowly...like introducing new foods to a baby. "The world according to eggface" and Bariatric foodie are both good websites to check out for recipes as you introduce new foods and more complex meals. And check out the nutrition subforum on BP for good ideas in all stages.
