Interesting article. Its a good reminder to keep behaviors in check. Let the medical professionals diagnose any disorder.
Many of us had unhealthy behaviors with food and our weight before surgery. (Some meet the criteria for eating disorders) It's not surprising to see some people with eating and exercising disorders after surgery.
Its also not surprising to see some patients turn into healthy athletes or trainers.

Some massively great comments in this thread!
I'm still thinking about how I feel about this question (good one, Alex).
But one thing I'm realizing is that I need even more friends. It's time to start new-friend-dating.

Things look different if you have an above average fitness level. I see this question often on the forum. I'm not sure why most surgeons office's don't have the information on this issue.
I started distance running 6 months out from surgery. I am now 1 year and 9 months out. I work with a sports medicine dietitian. On the days I run/workout. I burn 1000 in an hour. I eat up to 2000 calories. 150g of Protein - 200g of carbohydrates - 67g fat. On the days I don't work out I consume 1500 calories. The challenge is eating that amount with a tiny tummy.

I'm almost 6 months post op, so not quite to the point you are, but I just had my 6 month check up (got home about an hour ago) and when I told the doctor that I still log and plan everything I eat, she said that the people who log their food consistently have a much lower risk of stretching their pouch and slowing down too quickly/regaining. I've been using myfitnesspal since before surgery and I'm probably going to keep using it indefinitely, though I may relax it a bit when I hit maintenance phase.. I find that planning and knowing exactly what I'm eating and how much really eases my anxiety about food, and the fact that it increases my chance of long-term success doesn't. hurt.

All day today, I was not able to keep down any liquids at all. I would take the smallest sip and I could feel it just sitting there. I was almost panicking and getting ready to call the doctor. As I was standing in the bathroom at work, looking in the mirror, I noticed my clothes were a little disheveled, so I began to straighten them up...you know...in case I had to go to ER. Well.....I adjusted my sexy VS front clasp bra and felt immediate relief. I could fill the Water going down. Apparently, my bra was hindering my ability to digest liquids today. LOL It would have been nice to discovered this early this morning instead of spending all day planning my bypass apocalypse.

I participated in a one day boot camp class on 8/2. Tammy, Steve and Scott presented. I've been to the last couple support group meetings, too. I met Corrie at Monday's meeting. :-). Perhaps we'll all see each other at the Sept meeting?!

I agree, something here does not make sense at all. I wonder if you either have a serious medical condition or a serious eating disorder.
You are the only person that can actually make yourself eat and timely. It has to become your priority if you want to stay healthy in the long term.
With RNY you really do get your hunger back, I am not sure why that hasn't happened for you but I am guessing when you are hungry, you are ignoring it because you are busy. If you don't want to keep dropping weight you need to pay attention and act on it.
It sounds like you can pretty much eat whatever you want without the repercussions of weight gain. The only issue is some foods you dump on and others that would likely make you dump, you don't.
I will say that I have met many RNY patients who still dump many many years later so I am not convinced at all that ever stops completely. They just learn how to live with it differently. The same is true about the malabsorption factor. I met a guy that had RNY 15 years ago. He eats small meals all day long because his body still malabsorbs. He looks great, still has a lot of restriction which requires that he eats small amounts all day long.
I know my pouch is definitely on the small side which means to get to my Protein count and about 1000 calories a day, I have to eat 3 good meals a day and snack in between.
I have to really concentrate when I eat or I might just eat a tiny amount and be hungry a short time later.

On work days I have a large travel mug of coffee or tea for Breakfast. Sometimes, if I need to get gas I will grab a muffin or cinnamon roll or breakfast sandwich at the gas station. Eat 1/2 of the muffin or roll or just the egg and meat out of the sandwich. But more often than not my first food on a workday is a Quest bar around 10:30-11am
Weekends I always have breakfast, pretty much whatever I'm in the mood for, usually a high Protein option.....omelet, Protein pancake and sausage, Bob's Red Mill 10 grain Cereal with Protein Powder, bacon and cheese, Greek yogurt with flax seed and Kashi go lean cereal, etc.
This morning I had a scrambled egg with cheese and salsa and 1/2 grapefruit.

I was sleeved Feb 14, 2013 in Madison UW Hosp by Dr Greenberg. It was wonderful. I was in and out in a day. I'm currently down 53# as of last week.

This is my first post in this forum, so, hello! In the months leading up to my surgery, I put my dating life completely on hold to stay focused on the labor of preparing for a huge shift in mind, body and soul.
I was sleeved three weeks ago, but dating feels like a different thing now. I would really prefer not to divulge information as personal as a bariatric surgery to people i don't know and trust, but since relationships have a physical component it seems dishonest not to tell. In a year my body will look totally different. When we share a meal, and I can only eat three bites, I feel I will have to explain.
Are you dating while in process of weight loss?
Do you divulge that you've had a bariatric surgery to your date?
What kind of responses did you get?
Are you waiting until your close to goal to start dating do you can focus on yourself?
