    Unhelpful Adverts

So I understand that this site probably makes its money mostly through adverts but I've just had two in a row that seem rather inappropriate - one was for McDonalds and the other was for a bakery, complete with gorgeous colour photos of pastries. Is there a way to get rid of these unhelpful, and potentially triggering, adverts?

@@Alex Brecher I only ever see them on the app. It's only happened twice and just in the past day. Whenever I get on the app and go to the sidebar to navigate the site an ad pops up. Usually it's for the Google app or some online gaming site. That's where the ads popped up.

I almost exclusively use the app on my phone so I'm not sure how to use ad block. I'm 99% sure that the ads I'm seeing aren't geared towards my search history since most of them are actually for online video games which I've never looked for in my life. I'm glad other people aren't seeing them though.

    Alcohol and Weightloss

This is a very interesting and angry thread. I drink occasionally and greatly enjoy it. I do notice, however, that when I drink more than once or twice a week, my weight loss slows, even if I make sure that the alcohol doesn't put me over my calorie limit. I read an article recently that said that alcohol slows down your metabolism - basically because alcohol is empty calories, your body has to put everything else on hold to try and process the alcohol first, which slows down your overall metabolism. I don't know how scientifically accurate that is, but it seemed to make sense to me when I read it.
  9. In about ten days I'm taking a week long trip to Paris and London. I'm really excited but I'm also really anxious. I've taken several trips since surgery, but this will be the first one where I won't really be able to make any of my meals. I keep meticulous record of all of the calories I consume, my protein, sugar, etc, and the way I do that is by making 90% of my food and by knowing the exact nutritional breakdown of what's in the other 10%. I also weigh and measure everything (except for those rare occasions when I go out to eat.) I don't feel comfortable whipping out my food scale at a fancy Parisian restaurant and, especially in Paris, I may not be able to read ingredients because I don't speak French. I'm also anxious because on one hand I don't want to have to be hyper vigilant about eat, but on the other, my weight loss has definitely slowed dramatically and as I get closer to my year "surgiversary" I feel like time is running out. I know that sounds odd, but I have this weird idea in my head that the surgery is going to stop being an effective tool once I hit that year mark. Logically I know there is no shadowy figure waiting to flip a switch to turn of my weight loss on February 10th, but it's an irrational fear I can't seem to shake. I also won't be able to exercise as intensely as I do now - I'll be doing a lot of walking, but as my itinerary is packed from dawn til dusk, I doubt I'll be able to do any actual cardio or strength training. Does anyone have any advice about how to eat when all of your meals are made by someone else? I'm planning on bringing a stack of Quest bars and all of my vitamins. Any advice on how to soothe my other anxieties?

    POOP!

Yay! Another poop thread. Requisite apology for the squeamish amongst us. So I only tend to have a bowel movement every other day, which my doctor said is fine and not to worry. And I don't. The thing I am having a problem with is that it's sticky. I feel like I use half a roll of TP just to get clean. When I asked the doctor, she was kind of vague about the reasons and generally not very helpful. Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone been able to fix it?

International Travels - Fears and Concerns

Remember not to forget mine, too (see above). My dearest friend is in Rome this week and has been enlisted to bring me something very, very expensive. You, IndieFlickers, should make mine merely expensive, as we've only just met. I do need gloves, y'know. Bespoke gloves.. Haha I'll try to remember that!!

@@JamieLogical @@Djmohr thanks guys. I know that I'm probably way too in my head about this. I think part of it is that I'm just ready to be done with losing and to finally be at goal. I think part of the reason it's been easy for me to stay so disciplined and vigilant is because it was working really well. I've lost 190 pounds in less than a year. But I worry that it will be a lot harder to stay disciplined and vigilant as my weight loss slows. It is far easier for me to work hard when the results are good than when I have to fight for every ounce lost.

    Periods

I was warned before surgery that my periods might become much more frequent but I've found the opposite to be true - I haven't had a period since October. I still seem to get PMS though. I had my hormones checked and had an ultrasound and everything looks normal. My doc said it should go back to normal after my body adjusts to the massive weight loss.

@@BLERDgirl @@Threetimesacharm I get a lot of fibre which I think adds to the, shall we say, back up. My doctor told me that it might be because of the shortened stomach - because it has a shorter path to the bowels, it has less time to properly "form." Getting Hungrier Sooner

I'm almost ten months out since surgery and I've been noticing the last month or so that I get hungry a lot sooner after a meal, sometimes only an hour later. I'm still consuming no more than 4 ounces of food per meal - 3 ounces dense protein and 1 ounce fruit or vegetables. I also still follow the liquid rule - I stop drinking half an hour before a meal and 45 minutes after. Has any one else had this problem? What do you do about it?

    Getting Hungrier Sooner

@innersurfergirl I always have snacks! I try to eat every three hours and that was working well up until a month or so ago. Usually I'd start getting hungry right around the 2:45 mark but now it feels like I'm hungry after only and hour. Getting Hungrier Sooner

@@CowgirlJane I'll try that! I actually eat very little fruit. Really just the banana in my morning protein shake. I've been drinking water whenever the hunger sets in - at least 16 ounces - but it doesn't seem to curb the hunger for more than twenty minutes or so. I'm averaging about 100 ounces of water a day.
