Don't take laxatives, you will dehydrate yourself at a critical time. I didn't follow the recommended pre op diet until the day before...well not even that, 10 hours before my surgery I took a sleeping pill and sleep ate 2 candy bars from the hotel fridge. I was the first to get surgery the next day, not a word was said and no complications. I am not suggesting this is a good idea, however, don't worry so much. Get good eating habits before and you will be a better success after

BMI of 29 and went for it, sick of being fat my whole life. The one and only negative I have is the 24/7 GERD. It's not all roses, but much easier to lose weight

Nice, you are young and it should be pretty easy to lose a ton of weight, I wouldn't worry at all, I wish I had this done when I was 15! don't forget to exercise and you can't go wrong..

I think fat people know a lot more about nutrition than people give us credit for. I knew all about carbs and fat and how horrible they are. I used to work in healthcare- and have seen firsthand the results of long term obesity has on the body. Most of us have all seen the food documentaries -super size me ..etc..I know it's bad, but food is so plentiful and delicious that it was hard to change. Portion size has been the key for me. I still can't believe how much people eat and think it's normal. I can't believe how huge kids meals are.
What has recently surprised me is how bad sugar is and just how unregulated the industry has become. Although every decade it's a new vice, we had it wrong so many times before- I remember the margarine is better than butter craze---it wasn't. There is a lot of trust issues when it comes to food science, I don't think they have figured it out yet.

Calling out the reason I have lost so much weight, bariatric surgery. I have dieted, exercised, literally struggled my whole life with weight issues until getting surgery and bam! I am the thinnest I have ever been with little to no effort 6 months out. I am not even hungry most the time, I just eat for old reasons like when I am happy or sad or socializing or if the food is really good. WLS has done for me what diet and exercise couldn't, too bad insurance won't cover for everyone... No one needs a huge stomach...

It was my best investment ever as well. I even calculated my ROI (return on investment) and figured out that the money I saved on food costs would pay for my surgery expenses in about 3 1/2 years. After that, it's pure profit! There goes the BOOM! :-)

Enough about me, let's talk about you. Do you have a candy bar in your kitchen? What's your kryptonite? Do you smoke, cheat on your spouse, watch too much TV? What ticks you off?

Ok everyone, I may have trolled a little too hard on this one. My mantra is moderation. I am sorry if I have offended anyone or made light on anyone's struggles. I am struggling as well, and have been struggling for a long time with weight and food issues, I just choose to do so in a sarcastic cynical way.

I get comments all the time of 'Did you lose weight on purpose?' And 'are you ok?'. I think people either think I am dying, or I am a crack head. I am 29 and look like I am 40. Have some nice grays and deep wrinkles setting in, and I still wear my size 14s from pre-op. Besides my clothes I need to change and the hair dye to buy, I really need to start adding a lot of exercise to the mix, I am starting to convince myself that I am anemic and dying....

Exercise does not have to be joining a gym. Just move, walk, run, swim, use a home tread mill, hike, walk the dog (if you don't own one the Rescue is full of dogs needing walking) or anything else you might incorporate into a daily routine. I agree with the others, the only one that needs to approve of your looks is you and how you feel about yourself will project to others. Good luck you seem like your on track to a healthier you!

You can turn this around very fast. Just a new clothing item from Ross or thrift store, a quick hair dye job, and you will feel better I predict!
Good enough to walk around the block I hope.
Sometimes, the hardest person to please is yourself.
