My father put it best. Why wouldn't you be upset? You shot your best friend...Who knew that food was my best friend and companion? I didn't until I couldn't turn to it anymore. It is hard! But, as others have said, one day at a time. You WILL get through this. Hugs!

lclemur got a reaction from Cleo's Mom in Depression
I suffer from depression. I am "used to it." But it is very scary, especially for our loved ones. The good news is that it will pass (unless you are clinically diagnosed, as I am.) Be supportive, encourage the exercise, and get out in the sun. Gee, I hope you are somewhere with sun! Walk the mall! My son encourages me to walk the mall. He comes with me, then disappears, but calls to encourage me to meet him after one more lap. If it goes on for more than 2-3 weeks, definitely follow-up with your GP and/or the Psychologist that did your evaluation. Antidepresants are not a lifetime commitment. Some people do great on a short 6 month course, and can let them go. Others need longer. But, you do what you have to do.
I know that it is hard to encourage when depression makes him so resistant. Keep loving.

Unfortunately, we don't do a ton of cooking at home. We are always on the go! Here are some great restaurant finds:
These are all kids meals. They are all under $6. They last me 2-4 meals
    Chipoltle:
Grilled chicken, black Beans, and fajita vegetables (hold the tortilla.) Comes with a drink I give to my son. But no toy
    Red Robin:
Grilled chicken skewers and steamed (undressed) broccoli. Comes with drink that I, once again, give to my son! No Toy.
    Chick-fil-a:
Grilled chicken nuggets (new!) and a fresh fruit cup. Their buttermilk ranch dipping sauce has 2 grams of sugar. Every other sauce is much higher. Either I give the drink to, you guessed it, my son, OR I get their splenda sweetened real lemonade for later. TOY! It is often a book. Into my classrooms treasure box it goes!
    Daphne's Grill
Grilled chicken with fire roasted vegetables. Comes with Tzatziki, pita bread (who gets it?) unsweetened applesauce, and a large bottle of apple juice (who gets it?) No toy!
    Souplantation:
My family and friends LOVE Souplantation. What was I to do? Spend $10 on .50 worth of food? I called them and explained my WLS, and they said that they charge the $5.99 kids price for us! It still isn't worth it, but it is since I can go with my family and friends! No toy!
Now, it could be that they don't give me a toy, because they know it is an adult eating it. But what fun is that?

I, too, had none of the "co-morbidities." I didn't have diabetes (although it was knocking on my door,) high blood pressure, etc. But I KNEW they were coming if I continued on the path I was on. I had to look to my future to realize the need. I am so sorry that all of us need to come to this. One family member said "But it is such a drastic measure!" Yeah, but drastic conditions call for drastic measures. If we could do it with diets, we would all be skinny, wouldn't we? Keep doing your research. The web has a wealth of information. Even after all of my research, I still questioned my decision. I do know one thing, I didn't want to die from obesity.

@CanyonBaby: how elegant your reply is! It really sums up what you need to do! 6 weeks out from surgery, and I am beginning to feel the pressure of "sticking to the program." I have so far, but am ever mindful of all of the times I was successful at a diet, then gained it all back. That is what scares me the most. But, with all of the encouragement I get here, I know I can do it! I want to be an example to those that follow me!

If you are on your monthly, then surely it is playing havoc with your weight. After just going through Menopause, I can't use that excuse. lol. You are ahead of the curve at 42 pounds, so maybe your body needs to take a deep breath and readjust. It will pass, it will pass, it will pass. Weigh yourself in one week. Don't cheat. Give your scale to a neighbor :0) Go get it back in a week. Let us know what it says. We are all your cheerleaders!

California girl here. I wonder about SPF. My GP said that we really need to amp it up on our facial moisturizers. #15 is really not enough for anyone anymore. Other than Luvin_life, no one has mentioned SPF. I use Cere Ve. It has 30 spf.

lclemur got a reaction from HootieBob in Why Did You Choose Your Specific Type of Weight Loss Surgery?
I chose the sleeve over bypass for three main reasons:
    1) I was afraid of dumping
    2) I wanted to be able to use Nsaids. I have had a lot of broken bones, and fear arthritis is in my future
    3) I heard a rumor that those that do bypass have a higher rate of farting. I already fart a lot, didn't want to increase it Lol!
Originally I was going to go lap-band. The high revision rate, low overall success rate, complications, all factored into changing my mind. Also, I was told that many insurances make it extremely difficult to do a revision. It is a "one surgery" chance!

lclemur got a reaction from me redefined in 4 weeks out. Depressed and questioning my choice.
LET ME CLARIFY! Oh boy, I really set off a storm! I had a kids meal at Red Robin. It consisted of grilled chicken skewers and steamed, undressed broccoli. The drink (diet lemonade) was drank later. I do not go to fast food restaurants AT ALL. Unless you consider Chipoltle one. There I had a kids meal of grilled chicken and black Beans. I can't stand thinking that you are invisioning me sitting down to a burger and fries!

I really, really appreciate the support of this sight. But, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, clarify before you jump all over someone! Words (especially the written word) can be misconstrued. I posted recently about a 4 week depression and doubting my decision. I mentioned eating a kids meal (portion!) and suddenly I am hanging out at McDonalds! Seriously?? I had a kids meal at Red Robin. It consisted of grilled chicken skewers with no sauce, and steamed/undressed broccoli (which I highly recommend if you are looking for a fun place to go with small/healthy options.) The drink was a diet lemonade, which I drank much later on the drive home. A perfectly health, reasonable choice. I was depressed because I was only able to eat about a third of it! Other restaurants have kids meals! Albeit, most consist of mac 'n cheese and hotdogs, but not all restaurants. I am trying very hard to go places with my family and not screwing up. These comments, however well meaning their intent, have really upset me, and I am seriously thinking of "checking out" of this site.
