Wow. Calmed down a bit and reviewed this, and yes, this is 100% true, funeral is tomorrow, there are posts on the official page of the hospital where he worked. Sounds like he was piloting a Cessna back to Mexicali and had 5 passengers on board, the plane crashed by a beach somewhere. 3 people died, 3 people survived. Terrible! I'm not an emotional person, but I definitely have a little something in my eye right now. This man honestly gave me, and so many others, a new lease on life. I can't think of any single other event in my life short of maybe getting into medical school that had such an immense positive impact on me. I have never had a single regret about having my VSG, or having it done by Dr. Aceves. It sounds like he left a great mark on medical education by training the next generation of bariatric surgeons. I hope his staff and family can be comforted by the fact that his life made a lasting impact on countless others.

I I just learned that my dear surgeon has died in a plane crash. I am so so glad I got to need him and have my sleeve just over 3 weeks ago by him. I will miss getting to see him at reunions and sad I can't send friends and family to him in the future. He was a master in his field.

This can happen to any of us. With more time away from surgery the weight loss game continues. I'm sure it has you down. My hope is you find what works for you to get over your slump. You have recognized this and yes! Its a destructive pattern. I am very much the same way.
Not sure this will even help and most likely things you already know:
Its easy to give yourself permission to go to the bad choices when you are having health issues. Try to keep them out of the house give yourself healthy craving options. Don't deprive yourself if you have a salty or sweet moment. Find the health options that satisfy it. Appetite can increase with types of food you intake. Find what makes you feel satisfied and not sluggish.
Forgive yourself! If there is no struggle there is no progress. Hang in there my friend.

bread and potatoes are complex carbohydrates with a high glycemic index...aka they turn to sugar quickly after eating them.

I don't know the issue after your sleeve procedure but potatoes and bread turn to sugar after they are ingested. Potatoes are a vegetable but should be eaten sparingly. I'm tryin not to eat bread at all for a while. Also I've heard bread was hard to digest after the procedure. I am not due to have the surgery until May 20 so I may be wrong but that's what I think.

I would be surprised if every person who has gone through WLS did not mourn food. First of all, it is probably because you are in the pureed stage and emotional following surgery which is making it worse.
This surgery is not for the feint of heart. It is very hard work, most of it mental. You have to stay positive and focus on all the reasons you had the surgery in the first place. Do not spend wasted time focusing on the negatives, it will only make you feel worse and that ultimately means you will struggle, like you are.
Keep your eye on the prize whether it was health reasons or simply because you wanted to lose weight. Pull your goals out that you wrote before surgery and remind yourself why you chose to have surgery.
I promise you will make it past this phase and if you stick to the right foods pretty soon you will crave healthy foods and not all the other stuff that made you heavy to begin with.
Also, having WLS does not mean that you will never eat those things again. You will simply have them once in a great while and in very small portions.
I wish you all the best, keep your head up and stay positive, it will help you succeed.
