I am 8 years post op Gastric Bypass and still maintaining my 170 pound weight loss! You can succeed, it’s a life change. The first pic is me 5 days before my surgery and the second pic is during a commercial I was in for my doctors office in April 2010. I lost a lot of weight, very fast! The first 6 months most of it was gone!

I took a picture of my outfit on Tuesday because the skirt was something I bought before surgery as a goal thing and Tuesday was the first time it fit comfortably. When I took the picture though, I realized that I hadn't done a comparison photo in a few months and I was shocked at how big of a change there was!
On the left is obviously me on Tuesday, the middle is in 2013 when I was about my highest of 400 and the right was me 3 months post-op (May 2017) and about 250 pounds.

BigTink2LilTink reacted to BigViffer in Sleeved powerlifters?
First off - let me take a moment and tell you how excited I am there is someone on here that is interested in powerlifting, much less competing. Low bar or high bar squats? Sumo or traditional deadlift? There is so much I would love to talk to you about! Do you have any form check or PR videos?
Can my body take a beating in the gym? Honestly, I feel better physically in the gym than anywhere else. I would say I am more resilient now than before. But I was in pretty bad health prior to surgery. So I am not a good person to tell you if you have the same endurance and/or toughness. I know for a fact that I do not have the endurance for long sessions in the gym. Unless I would pack a lunch and eat after squats and before deadlifts! You just use up so much fuel training.
According to Mark Rippetoe, Jon Sullivan, and my coach, a lifter at with my build needs 5000+ calories a day to add more muscle. They however are not thinking about a gastric sleeve patient. When I spoke with Sullivan and my coach, they said that recovery is what is going to hold me back. They told me ways to get more calories, but I don't want to gain the weight. So to me, the numbers on the bar are not as important as the inches on my waist. Maybe if I was 20 years younger.
That's what this is going to come down to for you. Do you want to be as strong as possible or overall healthier? For me, I want to be healthier overall first, and stronger than I was. I have succeeded at that. However, the desire to always get better is what the powerlifting does for me. That is probably why I have been successful keeping the weight off too. I keep meticulous records of my nutritional macros. That 3000 calories I mentioned, that is rare. My average is 2000. And yes, eating all day gets monotonous. I paid attention to my drinking at the gym today, I can gulp no problem, but my stomach cannot take the volume it could before. So two gulps and I'm full for a few minutes.

BigTink2LilTink got a reaction from Mattymatt in Excess skin
As someone that is 6'5 and when I started this process well above the 450lb mark I can say that the skin issue while it maybe minimal for you isn't as big of an issue as the stuff you will face being obese. I have it and the skin hasn't stopped me from doing the things that I needed to do or being happy. It hasn't stopped me from having meaningful relationships with people, or hindered me from working out. The skin at best is a mental thing. A reminder from where I've come from and sometimes, no a lot of times a reminder of what I did to myself.
DO NOT LET THE SKIN SCARE YOU FROM DOING WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO GET HEALTHY! Don't let that be the deterring factor.

I have a can do attitude and a need to not go back into a 40+ waist line ever again honestly. Just going to the gym for 3 out of the last 7 days and tracking food helped get an inch off the waistline. Its those small reminders of why I have to be consistent at the gym that helped. Plus my girlfriend has been on my ass as of late about getting back on track. She's trying to lose weight too and is making sure that I focus on a more healthier me and not the old unhealthy me. So yeah I need to be better cause I motivate her to be better.
So no need to blame others for mistakes that I made. No need to beat myself up, because that's not gonna solve the issue. Just put the head phones on, hit the Iron, do the planks, run on the treadmill, sweat on the elliptical, and log what I put into my body. That what time it is.

BigTink2LilTink reacted to catwoman7 in Excess skin
I worried about excessive skin (and hairloss) excessively before I had surgery. All I can say is, I would take my excess skin any day over weighing 373 lbs again. ANY DAY! In retrospect, I can't even believe I used to worry about that - life is SO MUCH better being normal weight, loose skin or not!

Damn Tink, I'm sorry to hear this. I don't speak fluff and I don't needlessly try to build people up. You are one of the hardest working people on this site, don't let this slip up take seed in your head. However, let it be a very serious reminder on how we must always remain vigilant.
I've always looked up to you man, I know you will take that 60 back off. PM me if you ever need to BS about this stuff.

From my workout yesterday. Yesterday was cardio and back day with the weights. Those last 20lbs are very very stubborn as far as going away. My tracker says that 11lbs away from goal, but its more like 20 to 22lbs actually.
