I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)

Today will be my first day back in the gym in about 3 weeks. Besides life getting in the way (trying to buy and house and the headaches that come with that) I haven't been getting to the gym as consistently as I had wanted too. When I last stopped I was about about 150lbs on my dead lift, lift pulls, and about 130lbs on my weighted squats. Gonna go slow here tonight when I do some work. Hopefully once I close on my house I can get back to a more consistent routine again. The last 2 months have been crazy with house hunting and everything else.

    Meaty Meltdown

I needed a good 12-15 months post ops before I could truly enjoy steak again. And beef and chicken are still my go too main sources of protein, besides eggs. I was never a big seafood eater and I still am not. But I would say that about 49% of my protein is chicken, 25% pork (bacon/sausage/chops) and 25% (ground chuck/strip steak/tenderloin) and 1% beans/nuts/quionua sources.

    Sex help!

Careful with some of the lubricants you try and use. Some use silicone base as the lubes lubrication, and while that might last longer than water base lubes, it can cause irritation issues. If you're prone to getting yeast infections or you or your partner are allergic to silicone then avoid using these, and instead use the water base lubes. The only down side to them is that they don't have a long lasting affects like the silicon ones do, so If you don't produce natural lubrication, then you'll be reapplying water based lubricants more frequently than their silicone counterparts. Good luck and happy jack rabbit humpings to you. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

Just wanted to update the thread. Still hitting the gym like I should be. Still not at goal like I wanted to be. Yet, even with that said I'm still enjoying the ride. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

I would say for now stick to either using beef/chicken broths, and protein powders and mixes. I wouldn't even chance trying to eat and/or drink pureed beef/pork anything. You may feel fine, but your body is still healing from you removing something out of it. That takes times, even if you feel like you are fine and okay, your body is still in recovery and will be for at least the first 6 to 8 months. Don't skip by your plan, and don't cheat it. Because if you do, it may come back and bite you in the rear in a lot harder than what you expected. For me getting those 80g of protein in consisted of me not only using Isopure unflavored and flavored protein mix, I was also doing Pure Protein coconut water (had about 8g of protein per 12oz), and Swanson's chicken broth (10g per 10oz). Then there was just some days that I didn't meet the goal. Not everyday are you going to meet that protein goal. And that should be expected especially only being like 10/15 days post surgery. But try very hard to get as close as you can to goal as often as you can. The sooner that you meet your protein goals I feel the quicker you will heal your body.
  8. So I was looking into nutrition tips and diets I could ease into to help me get past my latest/current stall and I came across this video on YouTube. Longevity & Why I now eat One Meal a Day It talks about fasting and eating just once a day forcing the body to a state of Ketosis. What is Ketosis you might ask, well "Ketosis is a normal metabolic process. When the body does not have enough glucose for energy, it burns stored fats instead; this results in a build-up of acids called ketones within the body. Some people encourage Ketosis by following a diet called the Ketogenic or low-carb diet." Some of the information talked about in the video below made some sense to me. And when you think about it in the grand scheme of things, when some of us were put on the pre-surgery liquid diet, this was basically what was happening to us. The post -op for those first 4 to 6 weeks were most of caloric intake was proteins and forcing the body to burn reserved body fat. Now around this time last year I did The Pouch Reset deal where I kinda went back on the first 90 days post-op diet for an aggressive week. It was basically all of the same post-op stages but instead done in 8 to 10 weeks, everything is done in 8 to 10 days. I found that when I did it by day 3 I was having some wicked headaches and over all groggy/foggy feeling. After doing it I did slightly break my then stall and dropped about a 3lbs. But it wasn't nearly as good as when I did the stuff pre,and then immediately post surgery. Hell, pre-surgery just on 10 days with liquids alone I dropped almost 50lbs. So I'm bringing my question on this here. I wanna get some feed back from some on here who may have tried this Intermittent Fasting and how it helped, or didn't help you with weight loss or weight maintenance post surgery. I know the one this I may be worried about is the possibility of feeling weak, especially now that I'm regularly lifting weights. Although I am lifting for strength and not really to build muscle, since I still wanna try and lose weight. Am I over thinking this, or is this something that is too risky to try?

    Gas?!

As someone else said here before. Look into taking some pro-biotics to help with the gas pain. I also took papaya enzyme to help with the internal gas issues as well as gas x. Its gonna feel that way unfortunately for a few weeks and then it should clear up. Also you are only about 3 days out from surgery too. All that gas they pumped into your body during surgery has to make it way out. Farting and pooping are the only cures for that unfortunately.

    For Whom the bell Tolls

Good luck to you. You can indeed do this. I went from being at my highest weight 3lbs away form 600lbs to between 250-260lbs give or take. I was able to get down to about around 535lbs when I decieded that having surgery to help me lose the weight was my most logical option. When I had my surgery I was on the pre-op diet for 14 days and went down to about 464lbs the day of my surgery from 535lbs. Its crazy how cutting out a damn near 15K calories a day diet to less than 700 calories a day can force one's body to burn excessive weight. I think most of the information that was shared here is valid and you take from it what you can. I would strongly suggest following whatever plan you surgeon has in place for you to follow first and foremost. They are the ones that have screened you for this procedure and will arm you with the tools you will need to be as successful as you want to be. Not all surgeon believe in following the same thing, so when in doubt ask them questions. Because if they are too busy or annoyed to answer you, then they sure as heck don't need to be cutting on you. I would start off by saying that you need to begin weening yourself off of things like soda/sugary drinks, and carbs (pasta/breads/starches) now while you can since you have some time before the pre-op stage. Don't go too crazy on buying a bunch of the protein shakes and mixes before the surgery because, as someone else said here, your taste buds will indeed change after the surgery. You may find yourself disgusted with things you use to enjoy before, so stick to some of the basics. I used/lived off of Isopure unflavored whey protein during my post op recovery phase to try and get my protein grams in. it helps because I found the flavored protein to be too sweet tasting, even the low sugar/no sugar versions. Water is key and make sure that you are getting in fluids. In fact probably the first 60 days will be you focusing on getting in enough water and protein as you can. Get with a nutritionist who specializes in Bariatric patients to help with meeting your nutritional needs post surgery. More than likely your surgeon should have already set you up with someone to help your plan out your dietary needs post surgery and beyond. And the one thing I will add is this. Be very patient with yourself and your body. You will be introducing some intense trama to your body and it will need time to heal. For some that can be as small as a few weeks, for others that can take a few months up to a year or more.

    Intro

Stay consist with your diet, make sure you are getting in the proper amount of water per day. I know right now getting in fluids especially water can be a struggle but you have to. And make sure you are walking. I can not stress enough how important walking right now will be for you. Come with the knowledge that your body will stall from time to time but as long as you keep doing the things your doctor has outlined for you, that you will keep losing weight. And some weeks the loss gains will be better than other weeks.

Down about 16 inches in the waist alone. The pants in the picture were a 58 waist. I''m now falling out of a 42 waist.

You should see what I look like now. That pic was taken only about 7/8 months after the surgery. I am sure I can easily fit into one leg of those pants now.

    African American Sleevers

I'm almost 3 years out. I have small keloid scaring on one of my 3 incisions but nothing too crazy. I guess since I am a guy the hair issue is a non-issue for me. In fact I've gained more body hair growth post surgery than I did before surgery. As the TheCurvyJones said, with this time out most of my scars are virtually gone. I remember when I first had the surgery my two top incisions were about 20 inches a part. Now they are less than 5 inches a part. That lets me know how much progress I have made, especially on days where the scale wants to be my enemy instead of my friend. I am doing fine. Trying to get into my muscle bulking phase which requires lifting more weights and consuming a lot more protein than I have been post surgery. I find that I can tolerate a lot of things now that I couldn't year 1 and 2 post surgery. But now as we are nearing year 2, things are a bit easier, which can be dangerous if you don't have good will power and a better frame of mind when dealing with food, eating and worse, social eating.

After a while you will be able to increase calorie intake the farther out from surgery you are. But you have got to get a firm understanding on nutrition and what does and doesn't work for your body post surgery to consume. As for gaining muscle yes you can have success in doing it. But just like with everything else losing weight gaining muscle, toning shape, losing inches, that take consistent effort. You have to be consistent with the working out (not just cardio, but actual weight lifting and body training), eating sensible and right, and avoiding habit forming things that will make those gains you get in the gym not last as long as you want them to.

  20. Yup this above. I would also add to also be kind to yourself. Get it in your head that you are not going to lose weight every day/week and some days you will actually gain weight. Its natural as your body adjust, retains/release water and what not. Also to add on to the goals thing, try new things that you haven't don't before that you felt like your prior weight before limited you from doing. Case in point this last weekend I went to a water park and rode a 2 story water slide. No way you would have gotten me to do that 3 years ago. You wouldn't have gotten me in a water park, let along in a water park shirtless and riding stuff like that. Take it all in and enjoy your accomplishments. Cause some days when its hard, you will have these sort of memories to lean on to help keep you moving forward.

Thoughts on Intermittent Fasting Post Op

Thanks for all the input so far. I am almost 3 years out and I can tolerate consume a lot more than I could right after the surgery was done. I don't think I have a problem meeting my protein intake in one or two meals since I am more of an meat eater anyway. My concern was more to do with it causing weird issues like what had happen to me when I did the pouch reset. Weird body aches and itching, along with the massive head aches. But it sounds like quite a few of you that posted in here so far have had some success with intermittent fasting. What is the difference between the 16:8 and 5:2?

I stay HORNY all the time!

No you haven't given too much information. These are some of the same issues that I had ran into as I was going through my changes. Its good information to share, because others will go through these changes and will want to know if the way they are acting, of if the increase libido/sexual urges are normal. And we can tell them yes.
  23. BigTink2LilTink

I stay HORNY all the time!

Make sure you are with a partner(s) that can handle your new found sexual urges. Trust me, nothing is more frustration as you go through these changes than to be with someone that can not sexually satisfy your needs. Also it will tapper off after a while. I call it the second puberty. The affects of the testosterone will start the level out the more excessive fat you burn off your body.
