I regretted (03/31/15) mine the day I got home from hospital. I second guessed myself and cried myself to sleep.
Today am happy I did the surgery. Am still getting used to the post surgery process. But all worth it!

No one likes to eat or cook anymore than I do. I was a great cook. Reason I weighed 410 lbs. I didn't think I'd like grilled chicken, Turkey, etc all the time either. But you can reprogram your thinking. Once the weight starts falling off & it will you'll realize the healthy diet is the only way to be successful & keep it off. Kudos to you for walking as much as you do. Keep it up. Over time the walking will really pay off. Cook things you will enjoy. You're more apt to stick with it. You made a decision to change your life. Healthy eating habits has to be maintained. Once your 3 months out you can eat just about anything. Your stomach will stretch & you'll be able to eat more food. Your stomach will hold about a cup of processed food by then. New eating habits have to be learned. They will become a habit over time. Take your supplements, get your Protein, drink lots of Water, exercise,& eat right. You're going to like the new you in 9 months. Don't get discouraged. Good times are ahead.

I had my RNY on 8-17. HW293 CW269 I'm feeling pretty good for the most part, just a little tired. I've been on liquid diet since surgery. I am really ready to move on to the next stage which will be next Wednesday! Yay!!

Better, thanks. Lost another 2 lbs, so I think I might have gotten myself out of my "stall". Really trying to be conscious of what I eat and make sure I get my walking in. Think this first rough patch is over. I'm sure there will be more, but getting through them is the important thing.

I walked as much as tolerated around the house for the first few weeks after surgery but I was fatigued and not feeling up to par for a while. It took a good two months post-op to start walking outside my house. I think everyone is different. I would say listen to your body and find a good medium. Don't over do it but don't be sedentary either. The weight will come off.

When my last child was born via C Section I was in the hospital for a week. One of my very best friends didn't call, come by or send anything. TWO WEEKS after I was home she called. Still didn't ask how I was doing, she needed something. So now I'm lighter one "friend".

If you have made them aware of what you were having done, then they SHOULD have asked how you were doing.
A co-worker of mine was on medical leave shortly before me and when she returned our big boss had flowers delivered to her desk. When I returned, nothing. That's just how some people are and we can't let it get us down.

Be_pretty_epic reacted to armywife79 in What kind of increments are you setting goals for rewards?
In the fist 40 or so, I made pacts with myself actually, more than rewards. Like, I had not been in a bathing suit in 18 years so, after the first 20, I got a suit. Then pounds later I went tubing for the first time, then I wore a sleeveless dress to a big event , last month I got my ears pierced after 20 years of them being closed up I wore shorts and a sleeveless shirt to Disney for the first time ever and went to a Water park. It's been more about pushing myself to experience things than getting stuff. I have been really surprised at how much I have done in just five months that I have put off for so many years. It's been a real experience!

I hope you feel better soon. I know it's difficult but try to get those fluids in. Lack of Water can also give you that nauseous feeling.

@@Madeleine Renee, Hi I wanted to answer your question. Well, I have been on meds for diabetes for about 7 years. I was told by my surgeon that after my RNY i would prolly not need meds and he is right! I was still taking them in the hospital and my sugar was dropping too low so they had me stop them before I even came home. Now that I am getting off just about all my meds I was in before surgery I feel like this is all a blessing and I feel great being off all these pills ????????????

    @@Jasley,
Good morning! I was in the same boat as you are. I had my heart set on the sleeve after going through the classes and doing some on line research.
When I saw the bariatrician she recommended that I do not go with the sleeve but the RNY because I suffered from reflux. I was devastated. Mostly because like you I was afraid of bypass. She asked me what about bypass was I concerned about. I told her I thought bypass was more radical, the malabsorption as well as dumping syndrome.
She spent a lot of time with me. First, bypass is no more radical that removing 85 percent of your stomach. With bypass you could be reversed, with sleeve once your stomach is removed it is gone forever.
Bypass is the gold standard in WLS.
Then she explained that the malabsorption was actually a good thing that would help me to lose more weight as long as I took my Vitamins and had my labs completed by my bariatric team. By the way you have to do the same for sleeve.
Lastly she reminded me that dumping was not automatic. Many people do not get it. If I did get it, I would learn what foods triggered it and stop eating the.
After talking with her, I did get a second opinion from my gastroenterologist. He agreed that bypass was my best option given my reflux condition. If I had the sleeve there would be nothing they could do to treat it further as I was on the highest dose of the best reflux medication. The only way to treat it would be to revise to a bypass anyway.
I decided to go with bypass because I only wanted to go through this surgery 1 time.
I have never ever regretted making that decision. Bypass cured my reflux completely, no more diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stage 3 kidney disease and sleep apnea. They are all in remission. I am down 119lbs in 11 months.
Oh, and I don't suffer from dumping syndrome at all.
No regrets here! Best thing I have ever done for myself as well.
Good luck to you with whatever you choose to do. Please make sure you continue your research. This topic has come up hundreds of times on this site. You might want to search using the word revision to see just how many folks end up revising after lap and and sleeve because of the reflux issue.
If I were you I would follow my doctors advice.

Breathe! You will be fine. You have come this far, so do not let anything or anyone stop you. My mother was against me having the surgery as well. So i finally told her I changed my mind, which was a lie, but I Was so tired of the negativity. Now that she sees me 6 weeks post op and 35 pounds lighter, she agrees it was best for me. The surgery is not too bad, my only advice is to get up and walk at least every two hours. It helps so much with the gas pain. The first week you will be very tired and will not want to eat, it's very normal, just try your best to get the fluids in so you do not dehydrate. I wish you the best of luck and cannot wait for you to join the losers bench.

I won't lie, it's been hard on my marriage, now all of a sudden I get attention I never got before. I don't pay it a lot of attention because I'm not used to it (hubby is not overweight), he has become very jealous. My head still sees the old me, sometimes I make stupid choices that make me feel guilty, but I jump right back on my course & things have gone well.
I started my journey at 280lbs, a lot of health problems and extremely unhappy. Today I am 180, 9 months out, year anniversary is Sept 15th, the day I considered the first day of the rest of my life!!! It has been!!
I've battled anemia since, but was predisposed to it to begin with so it wasn't a shock. I take additional supplements and have had a few infusions- should be ironwoman by now! ????
I love getting to wear 'normal' clothing 'again' although I've never been this small. The only bad thing is having to buy new clothing every time I turn around but, it's a good problem!!!
I hope you're all staying positive and having wonderful progress!!! I'm here to chat if you want to!!! ????
My pictures are exactly 2 years apart and the before makes me cringe!

Sleeved 6/11 and I am dying to chew something. Thought about chewing and spitting out but I won't. I'll try another flavor shake today. 344 calories per day does not a happy fat man make! My wife is saving me with homemade broths and homemade sugar-free Popsicles (and some snuggles). I'll pay $1,000 for wheat toast with butter, one million dollars for a crispy piece of fish or chicken.

Hey girl! I am starting my pre-op on July 5th (gotta have 1 more hotdog for the 4th lol). I think my biggest fear is post-op eating. I have my nutrition guide and everything but I don't want to eat the wrong stuff and fail. I think because I am Cash Pay and if I don't loose the weight I want to it's like 15,000 down the drain.
