no onions reacted to wingsguy99 in Complications following surgery
Hey JoeGo2014! Thank God that you're still with us, man! When I clicked on your posting, I certainly was not expecting to hear about the unbelievable and unfortunate situation that you found yourself in when you awoke from your procedure/surgery! I'm not big on replying here, and I'm a newbie myself (sleeve gastrectomy June 29, 2015). I just wanted to reach out to you to say "Hang in there, man!" It sounds like you've held on and turned the corner and are finally able to start the road to recovery and better health. I've lost a little over 40 lbs. since the day of my surgery, and thankfully I have not had any of the difficulty that you've been made to endure. The good thing is that you made it through, and although the journey will be more difficult for you, you've got friends out here that are going to help you through anything that you feel you need help with. For me, I mostly just need the daily reminders that there are people out there having great success with this process, and folks who have had it a LOT tougher than I do. I just thank God that I made the decision to do this, and found this forum.
I'm looking forward to hearing your progress updates, as I'm happy to share mine with you as well. I'm 49, 5'6", and my starting weight was just under 400 lbs. I passed the 300 lb. milestone last Tuesday morning (YESSSS!!!), and feel pretty good. Feel free to contact me if you wish.
Good luck, and take care. We're all pulling for you, JoeGo2014!
Regards, Steve

Thing is, no one requires an IQ test pre-op.
Lots of WLS patients eat post-op like this clown does.
Bless their hearts.

I'm calling BS I read through and screen shot a few of your post, telling a 17 yr old to have surgery because it's important for finding a mate? Telling Another to gum breads after surgery? Either your full of s**t or give really shi*ty advice!

At the risk of a trainwreck, I'm going to use a phrase I used recently...
"beg your pardon?"

It was explained to me by the nurse practitioner that it is normal for most most patients she sees. She said we often feel good the first week and then may over do it with bending, moving, etc. I went through something similar to what you've described and it lasted a couple of weeks.
I also went in to see the Dr just to ease my mind. If you are feeling concerned, consider contacting your program. Good luck and speedy recovery.

no onions reacted to CowgirlJane in Surprised at my reaction to weight loss questions.
I have worked for the same very large company for decades. People have seen me lose, regain, and gain even more over the decades. In general, people are gentle and kind and don't say a word about the gaining. I would get the "you look great" with the losing.
The difference is post WLS I actually got slim for the first time EVER. Also, because I have been in different roles and we are a multinational there are people who I only see in person every few years, it is not like there was this "gradual" change. For some folks I literally went from 300+ pounds to 150 and fit. Shocking change in my appearance.
I had more then one "holy Sh*T" type reaction. I had a few guys behave in ways that were probably on the edge of appropriatenss on a work setting - but I chalked it up to shock and frankly I WAS shocked at how good I turned out looks wise so I cut alot of slack.
The one that I struggled with the most was a woman who is kind of a spaz/weird person anyway (impulse control problem type of person) who just couldn't get over it. I mean, over a period of months she would walk up to me and insist on seeing my badge because she couldn't believe it was me. Her behavior started to feel creepy actually.
In general, I don't answer questions about how. When people push me I talk about huge transformative events that made me realize how much I needed to change my whole life. There is nothing like talking about your dear sister, who was your best friend dying of breast cancer at age 40 to de-focus the conversation on my weight or how I did it.
Anyway, I kind of viewed that I owed people some patience and love as they adjusted to the new me/new appearance. I feel that way because they were so accepting and supportive of ME even when I felt and looked pretty terrible. I have a long term relationship with a whole organization and I guess I felt like I owed them that.
The beautiful thing is that overtime, people actually forget you were ever obese....

Good god, this is a big bowl of "word salad." I'm going to guess it was made by someone trolling.
http://examples.yourdictionary.com/examples-of-word-salad.html
The term word salad refers to a random words or phrases linked together in an often unintelligible manner. Often, a listener is unable to understand the meaning or purpose of the phrase. Mental health issues can often be the cause of disorganized speech such as word salad. ** See: "Beg your pardon?"

Word Salad on TV
Word Salad is also sometimes used for comedic reasons on television, in music, movies, and other media. Some examples are:
The Muppet Show's music often contains words strung together that do not make sense
The Happy Noodle Boy comics by Jhonen Vasquez
Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot, a song by Carumba
Worm Quartet, a comedy music act
Drinking Out of Cups, spoken word by Dan Deacon
Hatsune Miku's song Francium
Popular website LOLCats
Rutland Weekend Television's sketch “Gibberish” by Eric Idle
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Some of the comics of Calvin And Hobbe's
A stand-up act by now deceased George Carlin included Word Salads such as “Niz fluk bwarney quando floo!”
The play Dogg's Hamlet by Tom Stoppard
Now you have seen a lot of different examples of word salad. Since word salad is just nonsense words or phrases, you can easily create your own examples at any time.

no onions got a reaction from Daya69 in Why Getting Sleeved was the Biggest Mistake of My Life
I do not have much patience for this story.
Of course it's permanent - what wasn't understood about "gastrectomy"? This is a permanent tool, not a panacea. I guarantee that I could lose weight without the sleeve - what I was unable to do was keep it off, ever.
I fail to understand how you could not be aware of the facts relative to the surgery. Many programs provide just loads of information concerning what you can expect (risks, benefits, etc). I think the internet existed 3 years ago and nothing stops a person (choosing surgery) from asking any and as many questions as possible of their actual Dr.
I'm sorry you've regained weight with the sleeve. You know the correct steps to do something about it, if you choose. And if you do not know, then search this board (using Google - the built in board search isn't good, imo).
I predict this will be a trending topic.

no onions reacted to FrankyG in What to tell coworkers?
Anyone that is a close friend, I'd probably tell them. Anyone else, none of their business. I just went with "I'm having abdomnal surgery to correct a stomach issue" if pressed. And then change the subject or excuse myself and leave. You don't owe anyone any explainations, and technically you can just tell someone "It's nothing life-threatening, but I don't feel like discussing it at work." and change the subject.

no onions reacted to LipstickLady in What to tell coworkers?
Do you want people to know? If so, tell them.
If not, tell them you are having a personal procedure and leave it at that.
Easy cheesy.

@@betrthnever My husband loves me no matter what, so he says but I'm pretty sure he likes this skinnier me better. I lost weight on my own back in the day and my ex preferred bigger women and told me I " looked sick" and he wasn't as attracted to me.......soooooo I told Felicia bye, which is why he is now referred to as my ex. See how that works! So technically I dropped that 60 lbs plus 170lbs of ass! Not too shabby!

As someone who has had a "failed" WLS, I can really see how a person construes their own experience as facts.
Clearly, the OP did not actually have her "facts" right but did share her personal experience. This thread has a lot of passionate responses since so many of us found a "chance" at controlling obesity with the sleeve and are somewhat zealous in our ferver. I still call "unnecessary roughness" on this thread. WE can all see that mistakes were made and things said in a way that wasn't an accurate representation of our experiences or even of controlled studies.... but sheesh.
I am a freaking idiot for believing my band surgeon who told me i would be happy eating "petite portions" of high quality food and it would solve my weight issues. It could not have been further from the truth because during most of the banded life I was starving/drive for food and then would experience pain when I ate (unless it was sliders - so guess what happened to my eating habits!!). Anyway, if I were to write a story about my band experience in 2005 ( I was banded in 2001) it probably would have sounded as mixed up as this post did. Probably wouldn't have helped me much to be bashed about the head for my ignorance. Just something to think about in terms of how we treat each other.
