  1. Congrats!
no onions got a reaction from imct in To those whom have had their gallbladders removed...
Wow and glad you're feeling better!
I want to make sure I understand -- you experienced the bile leak after your surgery 3 years ago, or it somehow happened after your gastric sleeve surgery in May?
I had my gallbladder removed in my early 20s and didn't have any complications initially. I say initially, because shortly after (few months) I would have the dire need to use the bathroom after eating. It's only been within the last 2 years that I've been diagnosed with bile acid malabsorption (aka bile salts diarrhea and several other names) and treated with Cholestryamine (mix powder with water/juice - I think some people can get pill form). Cholestryamine made a night and day difference in my life and my symptoms are gone as long as I consistently drink the medicine in the morning.

I do not have much patience for this story.
Of course it's permanent - what wasn't understood about "gastrectomy"? This is a permanent tool, not a panacea. I guarantee that I could lose weight without the sleeve - what I was unable to do was keep it off, ever.
I fail to understand how you could not be aware of the facts relative to the surgery. Many programs provide just loads of information concerning what you can expect (risks, benefits, etc). I think the internet existed 3 years ago and nothing stops a person (choosing surgery) from asking any and as many questions as possible of their actual Dr.
I'm sorry you've regained weight with the sleeve. You know the correct steps to do something about it, if you choose. And if you do not know, then search this board (using Google - the built in board search isn't good, imo).
I predict this will be a trending topic.

I have no underwear help for you, but had to comment as I too can relate to the Missouri humidity. If I intend to sweat (like say go for a walk for exercise), that's fine. But tell me WHY, must the heat and humidity be so bad that I sweat and sheen walking from my car to my office. Naturally, when I reach my office, I promptly turn on my fan and blot my forehead with a paper towel. Ha!
    Good luck to you!

I like the vitafusion adult gummies and the kirkland signature adult gummies.
They do have calories and carbs, but they were negligible in my mind.

@@beccaconaty87 I am glad you asked because if you found that data, likely someone else has too and were too shy to bring it up!
What I will say is there are haters (fat acceptance movement for example) and sometimes the internet being what it is, those haters will write whatever they want... twisting or giving false interpetations. The best thing to do for research online, in my opinion is to read actual studies on places like medline. Or go to reputable sources like Cleveland Clinic, mayo clinic etc. Another great resource is the ASMBS.
    http://asmbs.org/patients/bariatric-surgery-misconceptions
Then, you may have questions or be unclear and if you want to get some feedback, it is really helpful to reference the specific study or info that you read. Of course, these are good questions for your surgeon too, but like a lot of people you start out online and then get more focused on questions that will help you choose if surgery is a good choice and if so, which one is the best choice for you.
    Good luck in your research!

Holy cow! If 1 in 50 people died the surgery would not be approved although if I read that statistic I would be freaked out too, geez Louise. Ask your doctor how many people have died or had severe complications after his surgery. My doctor was an absolute tool, but no one had ever died or had major complications as a result of his surgery and so I got over the fact that I didn't like him because he was unlikely to kill me. If you look at the stats for death or complications, often the people who die are those that had major prior complications. If you go into surgery way unhealthier than the average fat person, your chances of death are higher, however these people then skew the results for everyone else.
You are highly unlikely to die as a result of this surgery. If I remember correctly, gallbladder removal has around the same risk. Your decision should be more about understanding that you are having your stomach cut out and you need to learn to live a life with respect for that. I am unlikely ever going to be able to eat an entire burger again, I don't really eat junk food at all because it makes me sick, and I can't chug Water (or booze or anything). I have also maintained at goal for well over a year with a relative degree of ease. I am fine having traded 80% of my stomach for a size 2 butt. Whether you are also willing to do that is something you need to consider, but you really don't have a 1 in 50 chance of dying, or even remotely close to that. Try focusing your decision more on the long-term and less on the immediate complications of surgery, because the former of the two is exponentially more important to be worried about than the latter.

I do not intend to sound snarky...my comments are genuine. Your surgery was less than a year ago. 3-4 years from now you will very likely be able to imagine regain. The first say 6-18 months truly are the honeymoon period. I would say it was about 3 years post op when I realized that I could eat more, I was hungry more and frankly..just wanted to eat more! It seems crazy when you are in your first few years post op, but I am quite confident I could find those lost 150# without too much difficulty, unfortunately.
I had a friend say something like"since you have maintained so long, you won't regain" -that is dangerous thinking for me. I dont fret but I am diligent, like that diabetic that has the disease in remission...I know obesity can"strike" me again.

I hit goal in Feb 2013 after losing 150# (surgery was Dec 2011) I was morbidly obese or overweight most of my life. This morning I am 4# over goal...I have to work at this pretty constantly. I am very active and avoid fast food and crappy food generally but I do indulge too.
So, here is the scoop. The surgery is still there as a tool even years later BUT it's probably 80-90percent on YOU at that point. Given the decades of obesity, it's no wonder my body is always"wanting" to regain.
I am ever diligent that my 4# over doesn't turn into 40 or 140....right? I stay ON IT. I view obesity as a disease that I have in remission but will never be cured of. I have a level of determination that is sharee by quite a few die hards on these forums and frankly that FOCUS is one of the reasons I am still here on BP. I can't ever forget that I am not just a normal trim woman. I am someone who can easily regain. It is also one of the reasons I got skin removal...it is like tossing those 3X sweatpants cuz I ain't EVER going there again.

no onions reacted to Kindle in Psych evaluation required?! Why?
If you ask me, 1 psych evaluation isn't even close to what SHOULD be required for WLS. Post op therapy/counseling should be mandatory. Cause in the end, long term weight loss maintenance is 90% mental and maybe 10% physical.
With very few exceptions of certain metabolic disorders, the folks that regain years after WLS do so because they never got to the bottom of why they got fat in the first place. And without knowing the why means you can't change it. Going back to old behaviors when life deals you shit is the #1 cause of regain. The sleeve/band/bypass doesn't fail, the patient fails because not enough attention gets paid to the psychological aspect of losing and maintaining weight.

I can vouch for the fruit, pears specifically. I didn't mind them at all, reminded me of applesauce and it was something different than applesauce (which was getting tiresome).
I have some baby food sweet potatoes in the pantry that I've yet to try. I cannot imagine that they are too terrible.

no onions got a reaction from Andi07 in How much did it cost me? UHC high deductible plan.
Hi everyone, I have a UHC high deductible plan through my employer. My plan has a deductible of $1750 and a maximum out of pocket of $3250. This means I would never pay more than $3250 annually, even if I hadn't already met my deductible. I'm waiting on bills from the hospital so I can pay the remaining amount (out of $3250) I owe.
Just as fyi - this is what the hospital, surgeon, etc. billed insurance and what insurance paid them.
$4000 - Surgery; $2650 - insurance paid, remaining amount was labeled as "plan discount"
$27691 - Surgery, hospital stay (2 days) and misc. services such as medication; $27046 - insurance paid; I owe $644.
$270 - Pathology (hospital); $182 - insurance paid; remaining amount - plan discount
    $1680 - Anesthesia; $1322 - insurance paid; remaining amount - plan discount
$114 - Xray of esophagus (1 week leak test - analysis); $86.00 - insurance paid; remaining amount - plan discount
$632 - Xray of esophagus (1 week leak test - images); $239 - insurance paid; remaining amount - plan discount
I was required to do the following before surgery approval -
    1. Attend a seminar - surgeon requirement
    2. Meet with a physical therapist - surgeon requirement (possibly insurance too)
    3. Meeting with psychologist - insurance requirement
    4. Meet with a nutritionist - surgeon requirement
    5. 6 month supervised diet - insurance requirement. I met this requirement quickly since I had already participated in a Dr. supervised WLS program approx. 1.5 years ago (for exactly 6 months - who knew I would be that lucky!?).
    6. Have my primary care Dr. sign off on this and include a 5 year history of weight. This was best guess since I have only been with this Dr. approx. 1 year.
    7. Meet with the surgeon.
