I just had band to bypass on Monday including a hiatal hernia fix. Where they took out the port is what hurts the most (the good news is the other incisions hardly hurt at all in comparison.) just be mentally prepared for the pain. I wasn't. Evidently the port is attached to muscle and they have to work it out (mine had been in 11 years, so more than you). I feel like I've been hit by a truck. The first day was awful - stay up on your pain meds. Every day is better.
I know that's hard to hear, but it's better to be prepared

Glad things are going well...I am nervous and excited and looking forward to my surgery on the 29th! Keep posting, please!

I only had to do chewables for 8 weeks. I am beyond excited to say my two months of artificial chemical berry bile tasting hell are over!!! I am free no more gross chewables no more torture from the B50 capsules that tasted like earwax missed with kerosene. Free!!!! I am free!!!

You make me out much more upset than I am. I just thought by starting a thread of the 'little things', it might help someone. I didn't really need a lesson. This is about my 8th abdominal surgery.

I was the same way. I did have vomiting, but in the hospital from the anesthesia. I felt I could eat and drink way more than I needed. A few weeks/months into it it got better. I still feel like I can eat more than I need. I was worried for the longest time that my doctor didn't actually do the surgery.

Is that the blood thinner? If so, yes I did. It lasted a week and was truly painless. I barely felt the needle. You'll be fine. Dawnie_doo

August sure is a loooong month. So many of you have had your surgery and moving towards eating again. I, on the other hand, start my one-week pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. Have had my final pre-op appointment and gotten my meds. Surgery is the 29th.
Did any of you have to give yourself Enoxaparin injections? The doc just sort of glossed over this - I'm hoping the hospital nurses will show me how?

August 29th here. LB to RNY revision. Got 2 weeks away a year ago and changed my mind. A year later and I'm kicking myself - I could be thin by now!! So if you're nervous and wondering if you're doing the right thing...don't do what I did! Go for it!
@@MrsMonroe - I'm from Waco but having my surgery in Dallas with Dr. Hodges. She is who I was scheduled with last year (not HER fault I got nervous). She was with Barker Bariatric but she and another doc there went off on their own. I'm self-pay and her price actually went DOWN $3,000! Sweet.
All you early-August gals...Best of luck!!

I had my surgery this past Monday and stayed in the hospital 2 nights. Staying hydrated and walking will make a huge difference while in the hospital. I can already take my dogs out and made a trip to the store with my hubby today. Was easily tired, but it's major surgery so that's expected. Two things: the gas after surgery is worse than the incisions.....walk as much as tolerable, this really helped and be prepared for discomfort at the old port site......ouch, it's tender! Kind of like doing a thousand sit ups. Have some extra pillows near. I also had some cold packs ready and a heating pad. I set up my bedroom with prescribed medications easily accessible, water/liquids close by, phone/charger close, and Comfy pj's. My husband had to work the last three days and I was able to manage being well prepared. Like James marusek said.....waking really really helped my recovery.....I walked daily until the day of surgery. Keep us updated and ask lots of questions. You got this

Life isn't an exact science. I was in the hospital for 2 days after RNY gastric bypass surgery. I felt well enough that if they let me, I would have gone home after the first day. But some other patients in the ward were not so well off. They had a hard time getting out of bed and walking. Some had additional complications.
In my case I refused all pain medicine after I left the recovery room. I didn't need any because my pain levels were very low. I also wanted to drive soon after surgery and you cannot drive unless you are off all your pain meds. I walked each day for a half an hour in the 8 months prior to my operation and walking really put my body in shape for the operation with a quick recovery. In the hospital, I began walking almost as soon as I was put in bed after the operation. The nurse even had to meet me and tell me to lay off the walking. I think I walked 100 lapse in the hospital. So this not only contributed to a quick recovery but also I was very stable on my feet because of the lack of drugs.
So what is rolling around in my head is operation on Monday. Release from hospital on Wednesday. Waiting on doctor to sign off paperwork to leave hospital so it will be in afternoon Wednesday. Husband takes you home and buys prescription meds you will need after operation to prevent blood clots. He leaves for trip to be there by Thursday. There is very little time for a hiccup. What is the plan if something gets delayed?

I am extremely happy with my decision for revision from band to RNY. I feel so much better. No more acid reflux. I can actually eat salads and raw veggies now. I hadn't been able to in years. The surgery was no big deal, either. Minimal pain.

You can find the Multivitamin patch at PatchMD.com or here at the Bariatric Pal Store. I'm aware of what I need to take- and my Physicians Assistant told me at my 10 day follow up that I was to start the following day. Everyone is different. Our bodies are different, and Our illnesses are different. I know what I was told to do/not do. Even in the slight chance you are a physician, you're not MY physician, therefore I would appreciate that when I say what I was told to take & when, that you would BACK OFF.

Thank you for that very well articulated response regarding the correlation of smoking Marijuana and it's effects on post Bariatric surgery patients. I also appreciated your well thought out response and obvious expertise about the dangers of addiction and addiction transfer post WLS. Your critical thinking skills must be the envy of all your peers.
I'll bet you're fun at parties.

2 weeks to go and I'm an indecisive wreck. I change my mind 3 times a day! It started when I noticed all the low blood sugar posts. I already have low blood sugar! So I'm like the perfect candidate to have more episodes. I've started a topic that no one has responded to (it's here...maybe I should move it). My group of girlfriends had a get together this week, wine & drinks being the norm...will I ever be able to imbibe again (no flaming...I get it that I'm changing my lifestyle, but NO drinks EVER again??). My surgery is in Dallas because Waco has NO bariatric surgeons. What if something goes wrong? Do I drive to Dallas or go to the ER here and hope for the best?
OH..and my surgeon had her baby a month early so now I have a different surgeon I've never met!
Then I look in the mirror.
And think about my blood sugar numbers that are creeping up to the diabetic range.
    And my high cholesterol
And how I want to be healthier.
And how I was successful with the Band for 5 years and lost weight and felt great.
I have my pre-op appointment with the nutritionist today and will be grilling her on the hypoglycemia. Maybe I can put my mind at ease.
    Any encouragement would be welcome

I'm choosing bypass primarily for the GERD issue. And also because I believe the malabsorption in addition to the restriction will bring about the best results for me.
I started the process deadset on the sleeve, but gave it a lot of thought, research, and soul searching before changing my decision.
My bypass surgery is on the 29th and I have absolutely no second thoughts.

I hear you on #3. But their mental picture of someone who needs this surgery is just skewed.
And we did have the 'lay it out there' conversation today. Conference call with the 3 of us. I listened, told them I heard what they were saying. Told them I'd look into their specific concerns. Which is why the questions #1 & #2.
They aren't going to change my mind. I'm just looking for some answers to put their mind at ease.
