@jbrooks_rn. It might have been me that said I had my family to dinner. I have had 3 parties since 12/26 which was the day I started my liquid diet. I looked at those events as if I had an alcohol addiction would I expect no one to drink and my answer was no. This was a decision that I made. I can't expect everyone to live by my guidelines right now. They are supportive in many other ways, they can't give up their life for me! Good luck with your journey and Happy New Year! When is your surgery date?

My surgery is also in 4 days and not only am I afraid (use to be scared til I received support on here), but I also don't want to lose what I'm able to eat now!!! In the last 48 hours I have bounced back and forth between getting a nutritionist and trainer and then saying I will have the surgery!!!!! My surgery is also in 4 days. I have been at 3 party functions since I started the pre op diet on Dec. 26 and didn't slip but it killed me!!!!!! Today I'm sick to my stomach from the Protein shake!!! So I totally understand what you are saying and YOU ARE NOT A DEBBIE DOWNER!!!! Happy New a Year!!!

I had surgery 2 days ago. I was very scared before surgery and I knew I wouldn't cancel because everyone I knew who had the surgery was happy they had it. I had a lot of pain and nausea the day of surgery and the next morning. Its much better now. I'm feeling very positive about the surgery now.

Oh gosh....i think most people are scared...and excited at the same time. But its a surgery like any other in the realm of surgeries....so that is good...and you WILL survive the surgery. That is probably the easiest part....but I haven't had mine yet...so I'm just guessing lol. But from what i have been reading, the work comes afterwards and for most people, there are a series of ups and downs and adjustments that are simply inevitable.
I can see myself being nervous and scared ( i already am) but like you, feel I HAVE to do it, WANT to do it and WILL do it in the end. I imagine that i will ask why i got myself into this....i imagine I will have some breakdowns with bouts of excitement and happiness in between. I imagine I will regret it from time to time many times in a day in the beginning ,as I adjust to something i cant turn back. ...then a slow adjustment, and as i see i'm losing, i will be more accepting that i made the right decision. I imagine snapping at people cuz i don't have my precious food to turn to anymore and i probably wont like it. It will be like a funeral for my old friend...i'll be mourning my old relationship with food. Change doesn't come easy and takes time.
I was worried when i had a breast reduction about 12 years ago...worried about the surgery for the most part....but after i came out of it, I was psyched even though i lost a few lbs on each breast...so it was a physical adjustment. I was operated on for about 3 hrs.
I'm a big baby...A really big baby, but i am not going to let it stop me. Fear is not a good enough excuse to not go through with it....as my fear wont stop....ill just be fearing how long i will live, or afraid that if i wait til i am older and revisit the surgery then, it will be more of a risk then, than it is now. Now is a good a time as any.
You are right to be afraid. You are entitled to it. But don't let it dictate your future. While likely much different, an incredible future awaits you!!!!!

Docgerri, and Samjoesmom, my surgery is also Jan 5th! I haven't been on a liquid diet, but I am on a 1000 calorie diet that consists of Protein shakes and Lean Cuisine since Mon Dec 21st. I haven't lost a pound and I am frustrated too. I am wishing the next 4 days away!

I am just winding up day 3 of pre-op same doc as Kindle...........3 Protein shakes a day sugar free Jello and popsicles and vegs. I had a very shaky day today weak and headachy feel very crappy. I hope tomorrow (first day of the new year) will be better......... looking for a new me in 2015.

I had bad headaches for the first 3 days of pre op diet. Headache went away on 4th day. I was very hungry on pre op diet. I had surgery monday 29th. I'm not hungry. Getting my required fluids is a job right now. Every day will get better and this is worth doing!

I'm scheduled for January 12. I have 2 weeks pre-op liquids only diet.

@SteveLentTruro keep posting on this site! The support system here is unbelievable and with everybody responding has calmed some of my hysteria!!!!! My surgery is Monday.

it will all be worth it, a few months from now you will have forgotten all about that silly pre-op diet. I have....
shrinking the liver prior to surgery helps your surgeon.

Got my call for my pre-op visit with my PMD. She likes to do most of the test in her office then I go to see anesthesiologist on the same day for his preoperative visit on the 5 th of January. So far everything is on schedule. January 12, 2015 is 11 days and a wake-up.
