Scared to Death for Post Op

My post op was horrible because they did not realize that I was allergic to the antibiotic they gave me in surgery. My reaction was severe nausea. It would have been much better if I had not of received this medication. I felt much better by day 2. I have never thrown up, but felt like I needed to at times ( only because I ate too much). The weight is melting off and it is pretty wild to see my body change. Very different than when I would lose weight on one of my diets. It is worth it. I was so worried about the actual surgery and my experience in the recovery room which was crazy because I don't remember a thing. My last minute advise: you are doing something that will improve your health and is a gift that you get to have the surgery. We all have a very individual experiences post op, you will wake up and know that you did it and you are getting ready to have the greatest journey of your life! Good luck!

    Protein Water

Isopure protein water is my life right now. Sleeved on 12/15. 40 grams of protein in 20 ounces. Lots of different flavors. It is a GNC product. A little expensive, but sometimes you can find it on sale. Good stuff!

    Anyone on loads of meds

I'm on a ton of meds. I still have to crush them (sleeved 12/15) and it is nasty. It takes me 30 minutes every morning and about a hour at night. I go back to work tomorrow and I have to wake up a half hour earlier so I can take my meds! Crazy!

    Will I Never Learn?

It's a journey that's for sure. I was sleeved on 12/15 and thought I would never eat again. Every so often, I try to eat real food and deeply regret it soon after. It just sits there for at least 4 hours. I need to realize that I am not ready for textured food and stick with full liquids. I agree, that " I'm so full I'm going to die" feeling is horrible and scary. I'm experiencing it right now. I've walked, worked out, taken gas x, tums, and Zofran and nothing helps. But, that feeling eventually goes away. Feel better soon!

    Getting sick when eating.

I'm having the same problem, minus the vomiting. I think I'm trying to advance too quickly. I'm only getting in about 400 calories at the most and the extremely full feeling doesn't go away. I guess that is the purpose of the surgery. Tomorrow I'm back to full liquids so I can get my water in. Having difficulty getting fluids in due to nausea and my urine is becoming dark. Not good. Full liquids will help with dehydration. Hope you feel better.

    Gas 4 days post op

Gas x strips 3 times a day. Helped me so much.

    Gastric leak

I'm so sorry that you have had these complications. It will get better. It has too! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Gastric leak

Yes it is. I am used to working outside the home full time. Now that I am feeling better, I can't wait to go back. I can't take this house anymore and we are trying to save money just in case I my surgeon won't let me go back when I need to go back,so I just clean the house and watch tv. It's freezing outside and my entire family is recovering from colds. We live in the middle of no where and I'm starting to go stir crazy! Everyone at work is texting me with " hope your enjoying your vacation". Not!

    Strenght Training

I think I over did it. I'm 2 weeks post op today and am finally feeling like myself. I reorganized my closet, tried on all my shoes and bagged up the ones that are too small, cleaned the bathroom, shook the rugs outside, vacuumed the bathroom and my bedroom. I lifted the vacuum about 2 inches off the ground to turn it sideways, twice. Emptied the trash. Lots of bending over and a little bit of lifting. I don't know what got into me. I just felt like me again. The problem is, I had to take a Tylenol because my epigastric area is sore, not my incisions. Sort of between my incisions. I hope I didn't cause any damage. I can eat and drink okay, just mild soreness. I'm in my chair with my feet propped up now. Has anyone else did something stupid like this and were you okay afterwards? My Postop appointment is this Tuesday.
  10. Ok, so I was thinking to myself if this was all worth it. We'll let me tell you, it is. I have lost 31 lbs in 2 weeks. I went through my closet and tried on my fat clothes. They were huge! I bagged up 10 bags of clothes that were huge that I was just wearing 2 weeks ago. All of my smaller clothes are organized by size and I can actually wear all of the tops, and most of my bottoms are summer. I need to get back to work quick so I can wear all of this stuff one more time before it hits the bag. I'm found some pants that I'm wearing now that I have not worn in 5 years. This is different weight lose than a diet, my body is transforming! A week post op I thought I had ruined myself because I felt so bad. I'm coming out of my funk and it is definitely worth it. Keep you head up new post ops. It gets a lot better!

    Suggestion for Dehydration

Have you tried Isopure water from GNC. 40 grams of protein in 20 ounces of water. I am up to two bottles day and I'm 2 weeks out. You could use that with the power aid zero and hopefully you will be feeling better. I also found that any broth with sodium really made me feel better. Feel better soon.

    Gas pain

Have you tried Gas X strips? Use about 3-4 times a day. Walking really helps. The rumbling will cease. Day 6 sucks. I just reached the 2 week mark and I'm starting to feel like a normal person again. At day 6, I still had to stand with every sip. Hang in there. It gets better.

    Holiday fatigue

I am 11 days post op and Christmas completely wore me out! I did well getting my water and protein in, but today I can barely keep my eyes open! Anyone else feeling excessively sleepy today?
  14. I'm 6 days post op and I decided to eat about an ounce of plain cream of wheat made with milk. It hit my sleeve Like a ton of bricks. I walked the length of my deck 100 times which helps, but is still very much trying to get thru my sleeve. Help! What should I do? I am miserable!

    Post op sucks!

Stick with Popsicles. This too shall pass.

    Cream of Wheat nightmare! Help!

Thanks guys. We'll it took most of the night to get the cream of wheat down and I didn't feel great the next day. I'm back on clear liquids. I never want that to happen again! I need to remember that night during Christmas festivities. It is much better to feel good and not eat than to eat something that may make me miserable. Thanks for all the support!
  17. I'm day 8 and still cannot tolerate my protein shakes. I'm still on clear liquids, tried full liquids and was miserable. I recommend Isopure protein water from GNC. 40 grams of protein in 20 ounces. Expensive, but it is getting me through the Postop.

    Dull Pain and Fullness

I feel your pain. I'm day 8 and can only have clear liquids. I tried to slowly advance and I felted bloated, full and miserable. Walking helped. But who wants to walk outside at 10 pm? Milk of mag cherry cream helped considerably. It took about 24 hours. I will probably take it a couple times a week so I won't get backed up. Gas x strips helped and so do Tums. I actually had acid reflux in the middle of the night. Where did that come from? It's not like I had a big slice of pizza before bed. Good luck and hang in there. Remember, are digestive systems are like a hour glass. Nothing goes down unless we are up!
  19. I'm glad I read your post. I'm 8 days post op and I'm still choking down clear liquids. If I try anything full liquid, I experience "stacking" and it takes hours to finally make it down my sleeve. Your post encouraged me to get up and take a walk. I did and it almost felt like I didn't have surgery at all. I walked all over Walmart yesterday and I was miserable. Tried on bras and realized that my boobs are blaaaaa. I just had to go sit in automotive ( the only place there was a seat). I was really having a pity party yesterday. I feel better today. I feel thankful that my surgery went well, I'm losing weight daily, and my abdomen does not hurt near as bad as it did 8 days ago. Immediate Postop, I felt like I was going to die. I need to realize that I'm more alive than ever now with a great opportunity to make a real difference in my health, my appearance, and "the new me." Thanks for your post. Bit made me realize that I'm not alone.

    Cream of Wheat nightmare! Help!

Thanks. I have taken 2 gas x strips, have a heating pad on my belly and standing up swaying back and forth. The entire abdomen is bloated, instead of just the upper abd. I guess it just slowly making it down.
  21. Thanks! That makes me feel better.

    Dec. 15th anyone?

Yes, my hair is falling out. I'm at day 6. I am washing my hair very gently every other day and using Redkin Anti-snap. It is protein for your hair. I gently comb it daily. It keeps the hair loss at a minimum.
  23. Luckily my husband works at home and my kids are teenagers. I'm on day 6 and have lost 21 lbs so far. I'm getting in about 32 ounces and 70 grams of protein. I find myself needing a nap daily for about 1.5 hours. It's been cold and raining since I came home so I can't walk outside. I ride my stationary bike for 5 minute intervals, a couple times a day. I don't have a lot of energy. I plan on going to the store tomorrow to get some walking in. Anyone else having troubles with low energy?

    Post op sucks!

Try standing up when you drink. My Doc compared it to an hour glass. We need gravity to get the fluids down. I still have the pain if I drink too much or too fast. Standing up really helps.
