    Emotions all over the charts

Skye, Hang in there sweety! Everyone is so nice here and will totally understand and support you. Ya'll have such encouraging words. It was good for me to hear, too. I have been wondering about what I will do without food as my "drug". My surgery is tomorrow morning! I was really excited yesterday but this morning I am more nervous. I know I won't sleep tonight. Thanks for always being out there and saying such nice things!
  2. Thanks everybody! I can't wait to start my "new" life!!!! I think the waiting is far worse than anything else!

    February 2006 bandsters unite!!

    February 9th! Dr. Stephen Hamn
  4. Hi everyone! Quick question...did you all tell your family before surgery? I brought it up to my parents once and they flipped. Being a grown and married woman I know that this is my decision. Still I find it hard to tell them about this. Then, there is the fact that my mother will run her mouth to everyone she knows about this...I know from experience! Any thoughts and sharing of your own experiences would be greatly appreciated! Ya'll are the best! Thanks!

    Telling Your Family?

Paula, I have to say, I agree with you. Once it is out, I fear there is no stopping her! She may well tell the world....she did when I had my miscarriage over a year ago...talk about feeling betrayed! I feel guilty for not telling her, but I think as a grown adult it is best for me and my mental health at this point! Thanks!

    Telling Your Family?

I didn't mean to imply that I would lie to anyone. I would never do that. I will tell my family, but after the surgery. As for my girlfriends...all they need to know is that I am eating less and exercising...they fact that I will have the help of a band is really none of their business. I hadn't ever planned on telling them anyways! I don't feel like telling people that I ate several small meals during the day and exercising more is being dishonest.

    Telling Your Family?

Thanks everyone and keep em coming! I got up the nerve to tell my Mom last night and called on my way home from work....no one answered! Now I am thinking I am not going to tell her. If something did happen to me (God forbid) during surgery it would totally suck for my husband. But, he even agrees that will all the stress she has been putting me under lately :faint: , about other things, that maybe I just shouldn't tell her. Plus, the last time I mentioned it to my Dad, he immediately started talking about just going back on a diet and his response was "just put your mind to it. You just have to make up your mind and you will do it." Ahhhh, yeah right! Been there...done that!:cake: I am sooo guarded with who I tell. My best friend knows (she is a nurse), my hubby knows and two other people (one is a banded friend). I am comfortable with them knowing but no one else. Most of my other friends that I am close to are very thin people and always have been. I know they wouldn't understand. Thanks for all the advice. Ya'll really are the best!:clap2:

    Pre Op Is Done!

Yesterday was pre op...I got all of it done, including the psych evaluation. I even got to sit down with my surgeon and talk for a little bit. Made hubby feel much better I think. We also got to talk to some patients in the waiting room that were 2 weeks out. What an emotional roller coaster! I fell asleep siting up watching tv last night! Now the long wait until surgery begins!

    Pre Op Is Done!

Susan, Congrats on your surgery!!!! How is the phase one diet going? I am so excited to get started I can barely stand it! Plus, what really gets me is that I have been eating :hungry: anything and all I have wanted and I haven't gained an ounce:angry ! LOL! Everyone, Please share more of your experiences with the week leading up to surgery and the few weeks after! I am really trying to prepare myself for me journey. Thanks everyone for listening and responding!
  11. I love this topic! I have told two people at work, but only b/c I know that one person struggles greatly like I do with weight and the other loves me and I knew she would be my greatest cheerleader! I have a banded friend (used to be a coworker) and that is how I got the courage to go forward with mine. My hubby knows, my friend knows and I am considering telling my parents. I am struggling with that decision though b/c I know that they are not going to be happy...I know based on an earlier conversation/lecture I got from them on the subject. I know I should tell them b/c it is surgery, but I really don't want to. Anyone else I am not going to tell. I have several girlfriends that are very thin and don't have to work at it so they have never understood why I am heavy. They love me and all, but can be very judgemental about others. I would rather just hear their praise of me as I loose weight than to tell them how I did it! On one hand I want to shout it from the roof tops b/c I am so excited!!!! But I also don't want to hear all the opinions that come with it! LOL! Sorry this is a novel, but pre op is tomorrow and I am beside myself excited! I just can't wait!
  12. Hi everyone! I am so excited that I will be getting banded soon! I have never felt more sure of a decision that I have made...except when I married my hubby! The one thing I want to make sure that I do is to prepare. 1)What things did you all do to prepare and work through your first few weeks banded? 2) What things do you wish you would have done to prepare? 3)What has been the hardest part of being banded for you? Thanks for your honest answers! I want to be totally prepared!

    How to prepare for surgery

Thanks everyone! My mental state is what I want to make sure that I have right. I know that if I have the correct tools in place (meaning Snacks and the correct liquid stuff to eat) that it will make it so much easier!
