NaomiAus got a reaction from Daisee68 in Deciding to keep my sleeve quiet....
At first I didn't want anyone but immediate family to know, but one benefit of needing to wait so long to get it done (I've been waiting since last October) is that I have actually gained the confidence to tell people. I am proud of my decision so I don't care what other people think about it. That being said I have told quite a few people and have not come across a negative opinion, everyone seems to be genuinely supportive, I have told co-workers, friends and acquaintances. Don't rule out telling people, they may surprise you and the support they will give you helps.

My cat is a bed hog that likes to sleep right in the middle and gets cranky when I move around too much. Anyone else have this problem?

It depends on your surgeon. Most definitely you will be having heparin or something similar while you are in hospital, but from what I've read and researched it depends on your surgeon whether you will be needing to continue the injections while at home. My surgeon does it on a case by case bases, depending on how high risk you are. I will most likely be on injections at home, as I am on the larger side.

My cat knocks CDs off the entertainment center if he's ready for bed and I'm not.

Ill say this, people always look for permission from outside sources to resume the behavior that got them to the point they needed this surgery. It is kind of heartbreaking. People who drink a lot of beer , want to go back to drinking a lot of beer.
People who drank alot of wine, want to go back to drinking wine, people who ate a lot, want to..well you get the picture. We look for validation in our bad habits. We want to know how many bad things we can "get away with", and still lose weight.
Now of course some people can drink wine and beer in moderation , after they hit maintenance and will have no il effects. ,But for many doing bad things and expecting good results, is the cornerstone of failure. The difference is in what the term " moderation" means in your specific case and how that will work for you.

At the end of the day we need to do what works for us. This may be completely eliminating all processed foods, sugar, Pasta, bread etc from your diet or allowing yourself small portions of them occasionally, I don't think either one is wrong, but then again I have not yet been sleeved and I may feel differently when I am, just my two cents.

Anything with the words "fat free" I thought was ok, later to realize that fat free didn't make it healthy. More often than not fat free food is loaded with sugar or sodium to give it flavor.

My point is the "moderation" thing doesn't work with most people who have a history of obesity. You need to change your eating habits completely to be successful. Just eating the same foods you ate before in moderation may work in the honeymoon phase of weight loss, but will not work for long term success with maintenance.
I'm not saying to NEVER have pizza, ice cream, etc...but it needs to be balanced out with eating right the other 98% of the time.
I believe people who say they are going to eat the same things post surgery because they can eat less of it are fooling themselves, and are not willing to do the lifestyle change required to be successful in the long run. How many of us know someone who had surgery, any WLS, who had this mentality and may have lost all or some of their weight, but didn't keep it off? *Raises hand*

I bought a wedge pillow off of Amazon and am still sleeping on my back in an elevated position. It helps with the acid-y feeling I've been getting and it's more comfortable than trying to sleep on my side/stomach (my normal position). I thought my back would be sore as well, but I think the incline/wedge pillow has prevented that somehow.
I'm also not sleeping great (unless I take a pain pill!) and wake up frequently. Thus it's 3:13 AM central and I'm online. Trying to go back to bed! G'night!

I guess everyone feels differently after surgery, some have no issues and some do. I guess I won't really know if I'll have a problem until after I'm sleeved

You are most certainly not the only one that feels this way. Yes we are doing this for our health but we all are also doing it to look better, to no longer stand out for all the wrong reasons.

I'm going with the sleeve as it's what my surgeon recommends for me and I trust his advice, he will not do bands. Another reason I'm getting the sleeve is I have cousins who got it done so I have that support from people who will know what I've gone through.

I am planning on taking 8 weeks off. I'm a nurse on a pretty physically heavy ward so I want to ensure I give myself plenty of time to recover. I am also worried and covering for things like energy slumps and not getting enough fluids
