    scars

Well there you go - I used mederma on my son's face after he got driven into a rose bush on a battery powered car by his older brother... I missed a couple on his neck. His neck looks like Kreuger got to it, his face looks like nothing happened. So I am fairly certain the mederma was the difference. I started it as soon as they were scabbed over, but they were fairly superficial cuts.. the only reason I cared at all was it was his FACE. So far as my laproscopic scars, I've never used anything on them.. and they're all pretty tiny.

Mederma. As soon as you have a scab
  3. Is it possible that your surgeon was being sarcastic? At your bmi, research says sleeve should take all of your excess weight. I am 1month out. I spent first 2 weeks at 200sleeping 14 hours a day. At 600 I am able to function and remember my name. I think 800 is where I will try to hang for weight loss.
  4. The only time I miss the rest of my stomach is when I want to binge. Sleevie does not tolerate binging... Which is how she is helping me continue the downward trend.

    Pain after feeling great!

Based on my own experience, assuming you're not running a temp and you don't have red angry incision sites leaking discharge - you felt too good and did too much. Glad you're following up with your doc though.
  9. When I first woke up, I don't remember any pain... No significant thirst or hunger (I was getting IV fluids at a pretty good rate, and my doc premedicated for pain and nausea). I got ice chips the day after surgery, I think - and those were delicious. I got tea and broth the third day. I didn't really hurt until about day 5 - when my sublingual toradol ran out. Day 5 and 6 sucked horribly. I laid on the couch and my husband thought I was dying. Day 7 was like magic. I felt like a new human being. I went back to work that night, and other than being tired, I was good.
  10. I used INT. I loved them. It is tiny, but it is clean. The nurses speak mostly Spanish, but they are incredibly nice. If you book through Trish, she has a stand of Spanish - English translations from I would like to ice to I'm nauseous to Please call my doctor, I hurt too much, etc. There is always someone there (or was for me) who spoke at least enough English that I only used the sign once - and that was because I loved my nurse and wanted to be able to communicate.

    When did loss get noticed

My coworkers - who knew why I had taken off - said something as soon as I came back - maybe 15 lbs after surgery, "wow - I can already see it in your face". A friend told me - "Your face and your boobs look smaller"... she's a really good friend. Someone else said, "You must lose your belly first - I can really tell a difference". My husband grabbed me about 5 lbs ago and said, "I can tell you've lost a lot of weight". Silly man - just cause he could put his arms all the way around me. My children said something about the same time... also because they can now put their arms all the way around me. I notice more now, when I pass a mirror - I've pretty much lost my double chin, my good bras fit again, my wedding ring fits, my biggest pair of jeans now fit, I've gone down 2 sizes in my scrubs. My feet and knees notice every day - they don't hurt, and I noticed when I was climbing the stairs yesterday my knees didn't sound like a bowl of rice krispies.

    Soreness at incision site

29 days out - I've been having that same pain for the last 3 days. I use a corset (which finally fits!) to help put a little pressure, because I too notice that it felt better with some pressure.

    Gagging through protein shake

Premier Protein shakes taste so good I'm afraid they're going to come out as having falsified their nutrition information. Isopure clear to me have been disgusting; coconut is the only one I can drink. Jay Robb is pretty good insofar as no after taste, to me... but they're not as rich as Premier. Unjury's chicken broth is yummy... but don't mix it with really hot Water. You can put their chocolate in a cup of coffee for a mocha, but again - you don't want it much hotter than hot bath water or it clumps. I love Health Smart's pink lemonade concentrate from Nashua Nutrition - but they're currently on back order. SO many different Protein Drink options, there's no reason to choke down disgusting.
  14. Like every other reply that I've read, yes - I can lose weight. 50 lbs takes just a few months, but keeping it off is a game that I've never been able to win... and I don't seem to be able to pass 50 lbs off, no matter where I start. The biggest difference that I've noticed since surgery is the fact that I am not hungry. Hunger has always been a player in my little weight loss game, no matter what diet I was on. So this time, I lost 20 lbs between deciding on surgery and starting the preop diet, 20 lbs on preop diet, and I've lost 27 lbs in the 29 days since the day of surgery. Since surgery, I have to remind myself to eat - that makes it a whole lot easier to stick to the plan. I think the coolest thing that happened is yesterday, when I took my kids to the froyo shop because they had been begging for ice cream - I didn't want any. I could have eaten it, it wouldn't have bothered my sleeve, but I just simply did not want any. That is the first time in my life that I didn't want something cold, sweet, or creamy.
  15. I was able to skype at lucerna.. I assume marriott would be similar. Used was very welcome.
  16. I would consider 3 to 6 months to be acceptable, depending on the surgeon's rules. Smoking causes smaller blood vessels which decreases the amount of blood supply available to healing tissue. It is linked to increased risk of just about every complication. And TBH, I wouldn't want a stop smoking cough when I had surgery... that would have SUCKED! Bad enough when I had to VIS.

    Swelling

I can't tell how old you are from your profile - but if you're having trouble breathing when you lay down, swelling can be a sign of heart disease, can also be worsened by medications like beta blockers or ace inhibitors - can also be a sign of decreased kidney function... but it's probably a sign that... You've added bread. The same 8 lbs you lose in the first week of a low carb diet - you gain in the first week off. I'd follow up with the doc if you have any other symptoms or if the gain continues, otherwise cut the carbs and increase the Water.

    How to forgive someone?

I don't hate - but I don't 'forgive' easily either, if forgiving means letting you put me in a position where you can do it again.. I just kind of relegate them to the irrelevant list. I'll still interact and be polite, and help you if I can - but I assume that if you've done it once you'll do it again... so, for example, if you don't pay me back the $20 I loaned you, I can't loan you any more money. I'm not mad.. just not stupid. On the other hand.. I forgive my husband for forgetting stuff all the time, but I try to avoid giving him important things to remember - like picking the kids up or dropping off the rent check... 'cause he forgets.

    Sleeve or lap band?

I agree with the ladies - sleeve. Long term complications appear to be lower insofar as you don't have to worry about the band eroding your stomach or infections at your port site. Once you're through surgery, as long as you're meeting your nutrition quotas the only thing you really have to be concerned about is a leak - and those seem to be at less than 10% in general now.

I went to Tijuana with Dr. Ponce de Leon and Trish of WLS4betterlife... 4,199 included everything but the airfare.

    I want to give up

chicken is good for Sleevie Wonder; she doesn't like beef in any form - which is depressing, because steak is my favorite food... I haven't tried fish or eggs because it has to pass my mouth to get to sleevie... and that's not happening. And bread in any form - a bite of cracker, a tortilla chip, the crust off my kids' grilled cheese = PAIN. For HOURS. It will make weight loss easier.
  22. I was on Clear liquids x 10 days, full liquids x 10 days, pureed and mushy x 10 days... my doc said they're more conservative because follow up is not as easy when your surgeon is so far away. Strictly safety. That said, my stages lasted about a week.. yesterday was day 28, I've been chewing real food a couple of days. I feel like crap though and I've taken myself back to full liquids because that's the only thing that doesn't make my stomach hurt.
  23. I was told 2 to 4 oz, stop when you're not hungry. I was also told that Fluid was allowed as long as I included it in the 2 to 4 oz. I couldn't do grits till 2 weeks out, though. I still don't know that I would try them at a month.

    Sad and shocked

I don't love seeing fat pictures or fat video of me... and it's pretty much all been fat for oh, say, 15 years... but I still love me, and I think I've got pretty decent self image. The tummy that will never be tight without surgical intervention grew two beautiful children. The legs that strongly resemble tree trunks hold me up... and the arms with bat wings are excellent at holding babies. I was 335 the day I decided to have surgery, 305 the day I scheduled it, and 295 the day of. I'm 270 today - exactly 4 weeks out from surgery. When I graduate with my MSN this August, I hope to be around 200 - and I hope I will still love me.

    Sad and shocked

I think body dysmorphic disorder doesn't only affect people with anorexia/bulimia who think their skeletal figures are morbidly obese... when you look at yourself every day, you just look like you. When I saw a picture and my belly was bigger than my boobs - it was part of my turning point too.
