BLERDgirl got a reaction from BypassTheBS in Water bottles
I started out sipping and returned to normal as my body could handle it. I have a variety of Water bottles. I have a bite valve one from camelback, one by polarbottle, Thermos Intak Hydration Bottle with Meter, a britta waterbottle and a few no name bottle. I also have a Rubbermaid shaker bottle for my Protein drinks and my nutra bullet has a to go lid as well.
The thing you have to remember is sipping too fast or gulping will be uncomfortable at first. Just like eating too quickly. You will eventually be able to take normal bites and sips, but early on you need to keep that in mind.

    When were you sleeved?
I personally don't believe in cleanses. That's what your liver and kidney do. I can understand people wanting to take a break from eating junk after the holiday's but just cut out the junk and eat some fruit and veg, preferably raw. I can't imagine anyone newly sleeved needing a cleanse. You just cut out most of your tummy, again what's left to cleanse?

BLERDgirl got a reaction from Crystalmoon in Vegetables after weight loss surgery
Not true. I'm a vegetarian. Easily 75% of what I eat contains fiber. I have been eating them since day 1. When I was all liquid I would make a bean Soup. I also added a bit of spinach to my Protein drinks and Soups.
As for vegetables try what you like. Just allow time to see if you body reacts negatively before adding anything else new. I have been enjoying small green salads since 6 weeks out.
As for grains, I don't eat white rice, but I have had brown rice and quinoa with no issues.
I have never had Constipation or diarrhea. I had my first BM 3 days after coming home from the hospital and I've been regular ever since.

Check with your doctor/nutritionist. If they don't want you on caffeine, pre-op is the best time to ween off of it. Black tea & even green tea both have caffeine in them.

My slip hanging and nearly sliding off because it's too big. I eventually ended up pinning the waist band. I n fact I have a few elastic waist skirt that I think I'm going to slit open the waistband and stitch up to get through the winter.

BLERDgirl got a reaction from Gundy in How much weight....
This question is always a slippery slope.
    1) There is no average weight loss post-op, some people even gain.
    2) There are too many variables: starting weight, sex, health status, whether you had a pre-op diet or not, and age just to name a few. DON'T COMPARE
    3) People lose at different rates. Some are slow and steady, some are fast out the gate and eventually slow down to 6 - 12 lbs a month.
    4) Inevitably someone will read this and feel crappy about their own weight loss leading to a plethora of "I only loss..., what's wrong with me" post.

Other than what is in my whey Protein power I do not use any artificial sugars. I've learn to do without except for the occasional bit of honey(less than 3 x's a month). My body reacts negatively to most fake foods.

BLERDgirl got a reaction from SpindleCity in Fat Acceptance Movement - how do you feel?
I'm not into fat acceptance. I am into body acceptance. I think there's a difference. Everyone has the right to feel comfortable in there own skin. That's the end point for me. I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on the internet. I am a fat gal who has experienced doctor's ignoring underlying health issues as a result of my weight. What I do know for certain is that loving myself as a fat gal helped me decide to change my eating habits, exercise and eventually seek WLS.

A year out, I work out 5 - 6 days a week. I eat 900 - 1050 calories a day and a minimum of 100 gms of Protein daily. I find the secret to feeling full on low calories is more dense foods. I make sure to include healthy fats like avocado or nut butters and plant based carbs like Beans and whole grains such as quinoa in my diet.

I just eat as clean as possible. no artificial colorings, flavorings, or highly processed foods. I look for minimal ingredients and I avoid buying products with too many ingredients or ingredients I need a PhD to understand. I avoid simple, white carbs, but I will eat complex carbs. I eat healthy fats like coconut oil & avocado and I make sure my sugars come from natural sources. I don't buy any diet foods. Nothing that says, "low fat, sugar free or lite". I cook from scratch as much as possible.

I bought a few pairs of compression yoga pants. Both Old Navy and Lane Bryants sell them for a reasonable price. They are high waisted and really comfortable. I also have a pair of no name high waited body shaper panty like things. I think the higher waist helps keep them from rolling.

Checking in. I'm still a relative newbie. I was sleeved on 9/18. At my 2 week check up I was down 26lbs, at my 6 week follow up I was down another 6 making it 32lbs total. I only weight myself at my doctor's and my next appt isn't until 12/19. Surgery was a breeze, no pain, no gas, no complications. I feel great, working out 4 days a week and keeping a food diary at My fitnesspal. Hope to confine to see the scale moving down.

@@ASUgrad - I'm a makeup gal. I had to create a vanity with filing cabinets to hold all my stuff. However for skin care I find that the more natural and basic something is, the better it works for my skin. I am somehow this weird combination of high maintenance and hippie.

BLERDgirl got a reaction from Keke288 in I failed myself yet again...
I guess it's my training as a Child Life Specialist and experience working in hospitals that kept me cool. I had done my research and taken every precaution there was to take. I probably wait 4+ hours for surgery. I got dropped off at the hospital early because my ride had to go to work. I chilled in the hospital lobby for 2 hours before going up to the surgical center. I chilled there for an hour or two before being brought back. Medical settings don't scare me. I used to give pre-surgical tours to children and their families so I know what the equipment does and what the machines are for. They couldn't start my IV. could find a vein. I was not happy but okay. I knew it would mean I'd have to get a PICC line. I did my relaxation breathing to center myself. I walked into the OR I wasn't wheeled in. I climbed up on the tiny operating table and they once again tried to to find a vein. When they had to tilt the bed back for the PICC line one of the nurse's decided to hold my hand for comfort. I had to tel her to let go. I couldn't go inwards and center myself with her external stimuli. I was fine. My surgery was easy and I was up and walking no problem.
Think about how to relax yourself instead of freaking out. Once you develop those relaxation skills, it doesn't matter how long you wait.

I see many post similar to this and it makes me sad. Please keep in mind that for every person posting their dramatic & rapid weight loss, there are just as many doing the slow & steady weight loss. Just remember prior to the surgery most of us would have lost this much weight in 3 months at all. As long as that scale is moving in the right direction, you are fine.

BLERDgirl got a reaction from HorsecollarMinnie in TIPS ON EATING SLOW
You can download the eat slower app. Some people use infant utensil. My NUT had me practice eating slow pre-op. Another thing your can try is being really conscious of how you are eating. No eating while watching tv or being online. If you use a regular spoon/fork, only put food on the very tip. The shew slooowwwly, allowing the food to dissolve n your mouth before swallowing. Then put the utensils down and count to 20. REPEAT.

I look at it this way. You ever go to a restaurant for one of those fancy tasting menus or multiple course meals where they start you off with an amuse bouche? I view my food like that. So when I go out and there's something I really want, I take that one bite and savour it. I don't wolf it down and allow myself to be sad that's all I can have.
I eat chocolate. Most times I like the fancy stuff, Godiva, Vosges, Perugina Baci, etc..... but sometimes I just want a Hershey's kiss or a Reeces. I pop that one piece in my mouth and slooooowly let it sit on my tongue and melt. It's not an every day thing for me, so when I have it I want to make it special.
