    October Surgery Date

I had it in Birmingham. The nurse at the end was rude and told me I should have asked. We don't live in Birmingham and don't have any closer friends. It frustrated me because I told them I was Breastfeeding. They could have said, make sure you bring a pump because kids aren't allowed. The surgeon didn't mention it either.

So... Some with the surgery. Have some pain, not a lot. Back in the hotel and hopefully going to enjoy a night of sleep, but unlikely. A little irritated that no one mentioned no kids in the room. So basically I was all by myself all day, but at least I slept a lot.

    Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!

Thanks for the add. I'm worried about Thanksgiving too. I go in for my surgery on Thursday. But we might just stay home for Thanksgiving so we don't have to worry about the food. Although, not fan of Turkey, I love green bean casserole.

I didn't even think about that. Watching for a reply.
  10. I'm 3 days into my liquid diet and I too am a diet Pepsi addict (I could easily drink 6 cans a day without realizing it). The first day was the worst because of the withdrawal headaches, even though I cut back to 2 or 3 cans a day. I'm not missing it too much, but there is still some in the house which can make it hard when I open the fridge. I have two sisters who have been sleeved. One drank carbonated beverages pretty early, I want to say at 2 months and continues to drink beer and soda. The other doesn't drink anything carbonated. She thinks it's a slippery slope, where beer helped get her overweight, she doesn't want to introduce it back into her diet. So she avoids it altogether but has said she could have it if she wants. She is 18 months out and doing great, but the other sister is 16 months out and also doing great. She was not doomed. So each journey is different and I would ask your surgeon or NUT (it took me awhile to figure out what that meant).

I have a list of foods/liquids the surgeon have me that I can eat for the liquid diet. On it there are cream soup and yogurt. When I talked to my sister she said those weren't technically liquids, but oh well... They're are on the list and I'm happy about it. But I was asking her about sugar free jello pudding and fudgesicles. She didn't think they would qualify and since the list just said sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles, I decided better safe than sorry. I know I could call the nutritionist but it's OK not to have those too.

My prep is serious lacking. I am a self pay and my surgeon only required me to get tested for sleep apnea and get my PCMs approval, which she dragged her feet on. I started my liquid diet, but not sure it's a true liquid diet. I'm okay with it though, since I'm following what they gave me. The lack of prep really has me stressing about my likelihood of success. Also, I'm doing it as an outpatient surgery, which after reading some of the posts on here, I'm seriously worried about the pain. I've had two sisters have the sleeve done and one says it will be fine and the other says she was doubled over in the fetal position. I just keep thinking, I just had a c-section and u did OK and I had an appendectomy where it burst and I was OK with that. So, here's hoping it goes well and I can handle the pain.

Self pay and complications- who pays?

I've been told anything relating to the surgery my insurance will not pay. What I'm curious about is how they can pinpoint it to related to the surgery. People get obstructed bowels all the time or other complications. Also, my surgeon covers any complications that happen within the first 90 days. I am getting the sleeve and he said that most complications will happen in those first 90 days. I can also purchase additional complication insurance for up to three years with them.

    Breastfeeding after surgery?

Well...I'm hoping for the best and will try the fenugreek if I need to. As for holding son, the surgeon said he will be light enough to hold and if at first it's too hard, my husband can feed him and I'll pump.

    Breastfeeding after surgery?

I am self pay and they have not required nutritionist appointments. The surgeon said it should be fine since there is fat already stored. I also asked the pediatrician and seemed to think it would be OK too. I have been pumping in preparation for the surgery. So I have a supply built up. But if production is no good after surgery, I will try and pump to bring it back up. If not, I'm not anti formula.
