I'm really happy for you DJMOHR! You have been such an inspiration for me, and I thank you for all of your hard work and posts. I am also hoping for a tummy tuck in the next year so will be anxious to read your posts on this journey if you decide to go public with it. It's been 9 months for me with a loss of 110 #, and I attribute it partly to your motivation, positive posts and encouragement. WELL DONE!

  6. I met with a cardiologist yesterday. I definitely feel better after seeing him. He believes having two major surgeries in 8 months has played a huge role. My passing out, dizziness and low heart rate is being caused by 3 things: surgeons using steroids during and after spine surgery has caused my adrenal system to be out of whack which is causing my body to take longer to acclimate to positional changes, dehydration from the ability to swallow much for the last 4 weeks and the nerve in my cervical spine that was impacted and controls heart rate is irritate. He said it is like a perfect storm. An endocrinologist can help me with the adrenal gland issue. Of course Imy throat is getting better making hydration a bit easier and I just have to give that nerve some time to heal. My heart looks very health! Thanks for all the well wishes!

      Babbs,

I de died to start crocheting again to keep my hands busy. Since then I have noticed that I have a whole lot less head hunger going on and therefore my snacking has changed dramatically. I still snack but I noticed my calorie count has dropped from 1200 per day back down to around 1000 to 1100. Also of course when your hands are so busy you are burning more energy. I am still restricted and having another back surgery on 11/16.

That really is the only thing different to speak of.

    4. Lexigurl82
  8. Had a rough day yesterday. As most of you know I recently had cervical spinal fusion via my throat. It has been very hard to eat or drink for 2.5 weeks now. Apparently my heart rate has been very low and I let myself get dehydrated. Well, I stood up yesterday took a step and woke up on the floor. Not a good thing for someone in a neckbrace with 3 new fusions. Ugh! Spent the day in the er getting fluids. Now they want me to see a cardiologist because of my unexplained low heart rate and over 51 age. My heart rate did not improve even after I was rehydrated. Luckily I was wearing my brace and other than being sore, I feel a little better today. I am thankful that I did not really cause a huge problem. Moral of the story, don't let yourself get dehydrated no matter what! And how did your Saturday go!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and prayers. I am feeling a little better today, staying hydrated. I have an appointment with the cardiologist next Monday. In the meantime I am going to focus on getting my body moving more each day. I miss my workouts terribly (I never in a million years thought I would ever say that! LOL). I think your body gets used to exercise and when you don't get it you feel like crap.

Thanks again my fabulous Bariatric pal family!

  9. Yay! Shoulder surgery was done today and went better than expected. My an joint was very severe bone on bone, my shoulder was severely separated but they did not have to fix the rotator cuff! This means a much faster recovery and I am thrilled. No pain at the moment because they put a nerve block in. That will wear off late tonight and I am hoping pain is minimal. I slept for several hours early this evening and am doing well. Thanks for all the well wishes today everyone! You are all so very sweet.

Glad to hear the meds are helping and you got a new nights sleep. Are the exercising being done at home or with PT help? How long did hey say it would be before your back to normal and able to use that arm again.? I can't get my left hand behind my back and it is very frustrating at times. They will not do surgery on it or my back until I am below 250. What weight were you when you had this done?

    4. Djmohr

      Djmohr

Gosh, I had 5 back surgeries while I weighed 300lbs but it was because my spine was unstable and the risk far outweighed the danger. I had a 3 level cervical spinal fusion at 205lbs - last June. In November I had another back surgery that didn't work to relieve pressure on my t11 nerve root. I was about 180lbs.

Friday I weighed 168 when they repaired my shoulder.

When I was at my heaviest and had those surgeries for my lumbar fusions, I actually had an unstable spine and there really was no option for them other than to fix it. I would literally get stuck and not be able to move. That surgery worked but took many years before the pain became tolerable. I have nerve damage.

My shoulder should recover fairly quickly. I am currently doing small exercises to keep the joints moving at home but after the 24th I will be required to go to pt to get range of motion back. Before surgery I couldn't lift my arm up or out. I couldn't lay on my left side. I am glad this will fix that. I have similar issues with my right shoulder.

  10. Excited and hopeful for this upcoming week. I see the plastic surgeon on Monday (YAY!), Tuesday I have an 8am session with my physical therapist for myofacial release, followed by a low impact warm water therapy class and finished with my first round of acupuncture. I am relaxing just thinking about it! I cannot wait to get in the water where I feel like a whole new person. YAY me!

I went home the same day. Surgery lasted longer than expected, it was supposed to go 3 hours and ended up going nearly 6 hours from start to finish. My surgeon is a perfectionist and definately took her time.

She used a rather new technique where she does a type of Lipo to remove any fat first and then removes the skin second. This ensures no drains needed however it is more painful than the other appoach because of the lipo. I am black and blue from inside my armpit all the way to my elbow. The scars are more toward the back and my arms look very small even in their most swollen state. I couldn't be happier with the result and it can only get better from here.

I did have a rough afternoon and evening last night. Both arms swelled so bad that my fingers looked like fat little sausages and I spiked a fever of 101. If my fever went any higher I would have had to go in but thankfully it came down through the night as did a lot of the swelling in my hands. I also had bad pain control last night and the pain meds gave me a migraine. That tends to happen to me fairly regularly. The arms however Are still very swollen and black, blue and yellow. They look gnarly.

I feel much better today and the pain is much better too. I said a few prayers last night that my pain would reduce by a little to make it more manageable.

Would I do it again? Absolutely, no doubt about it! The pain is the worth it completely!

    3. Djmohr

      Djmohr

Oh and they got 1 liter of fat off each arm and 1/2lb of skin. So doc believes the total will be somewhere around 3.5 to 4.0 lbs removed. Of course I jumped on the scale but I gained 6 pounds of fluid from surgery which is expected. That should come off over the next week or so.

Thank you for the details, Djmohr. It has been very interesting and informative. I want to go for a consultation soon. Again, you have been a wealth of information and I appreciate your sharing.

  21. Keep your fingers crossed for me....On Friday I finally had an epidural injection in my thoracic spine to try to get my mid back and rib pain to improve. This particular pain has been plagueing me for 1 1/2 years following my cervical fusion. Yesterday was the first time in 1 1/2 years that I had NO pain! Today I have pain but it is mild and totally tolerable. It takes a full week before you know the results of an epidural completely but I am so very hopeful that we finally found the cause and have treated it properly.
