Why do I do that to myself. I am a huge Sons of Anarchy fan and every time I see the episode with Opies funeral, I cry like a big ole baby. WTH!
-
OMG!! First @oldbriannomore, now you, @OKCPirate. Did I suddenly become "hot" at my age and no one told me??? Not nice to keep such secrets from a lonely 63yr old woman, Brats.

Guess what?! Got my Instant pot today. It's ribs for dinner tonight. YUM!
-
Gah! Don't know if is because I am healing but the last two days I am a bottomless pit! I never ever feel this way. It might just be the need for comfort food. Ugh!
-
Today I have been headed back to basics and doing ok so far. Protein shake for breakfast, cottage cheese and a fresh peach for lunch. I am making some kind of taco concoction for dinner tonight. I might go with impossible taco pie because it has a lot of eggs in it and it is the only way I seem to be able to eat them. I think my body is simply starving for way more protein than what I am used to and it has to be because I am trying to heal these burning hot arms. It's all I can figure.
-
That's great, @Djmohr. We can't go wrong with the basics.

I am on fire! I swear there is smoke coming off my arms tonight. LOL

Starting to feel somewhat normal again except for the crazy itching following my brachioplasty. The swelling is coming down. I have spent a fortune on ice packs in the last week but it's all been worth it. My arms look fantastic!

I had to take my sleeves off to wash them and hubby is supposed to clip any of the mesh bandage that comes lose. It's the first time he has seen them in about 4 days and the swelling is coming down. He was shocked at how nice they look. I have NO loose hanging skin or fat. My arms look like I am in my 20s again. It really is so worth it. Creepy crawlers and all. Valentina, I know exactly what you are saying, it is not the first time I have felt nerves that are irritated having had several spine surgeries. I am hoping that it is not as bad with my tummy and breasts but at least I know what to expect.

I am doing great following my brachioplasty that was completed yesterday. Today the pain is worse and of course lots of swelling but holy cow are my arms tiny! Even swollen! It makes me excited for the next phase which will be tummy and breasts 3 months from now.

I went home the same day. Surgery lasted longer than expected, it was supposed to go 3 hours and ended up going nearly 6 hours from start to finish. My surgeon is a perfectionist and definately took her time.
She used a rather new technique where she does a type of Lipo to remove any fat first and then removes the skin second. This ensures no drains needed however it is more painful than the other appoach because of the lipo. I am black and blue from inside my armpit all the way to my elbow. The scars are more toward the back and my arms look very small even in their most swollen state. I couldn't be happier with the result and it can only get better from here.
I did have a rough afternoon and evening last night. Both arms swelled so bad that my fingers looked like fat little sausages and I spiked a fever of 101. If my fever went any higher I would have had to go in but thankfully it came down through the night as did a lot of the swelling in my hands. I also had bad pain control last night and the pain meds gave me a migraine. That tends to happen to me fairly regularly. The arms however Are still very swollen and black, blue and yellow. They look gnarly.
I feel much better today and the pain is much better too. I said a few prayers last night that my pain would reduce by a little to make it more manageable.
Would I do it again? Absolutely, no doubt about it! The pain is the worth it completely!

Thank you for the details, Djmohr. It has been very interesting and informative. I want to go for a consultation soon. My bcbs will pay for the stomach work, but not arms, yet my arms are the thing I am most self-conscious about.....guess because it's summer and sleeves are short. Again, you have been a wealth of information and I appreciate your sharing.

Excited and hopeful for this upcoming week. I see the plastic surgeon on Monday (YAY!), Tuesday I have an 8am session with my physical therapist for myofacial release, followed by a low impact warm water therapy class and finished with my first round of acupuncture. I am relaxing just thinking about it! I cannot wait to get in the water where I feel like a whole new person. YAY me!
-
I am feeling excited today. I signed up at the pro health center in Pewaukee, Wi. Having such severe arthritis in my back, neck and shoulders makes it very difficult to exercise enough to burn calories. This center has a warm water therapy pool , warm water lap pool, whirlpools, saunas, full service spa, full service gym and even an acupuncture therapist. I am scheduled to have my first ever acupuncture session. I am a little scared but very hopeful that it will improve my pain.
-
@MrsSugarbabe. I will definately keep you posted. I have been through pure hell with my current back and spine team. Apparently when you have severe throracic pain you are simply full of sh@t. All they have done is through hard core drugs at me and I am been in PT since December sometimes 3 times a week.
Yesterday I told them they couldn't diagnose a hangnail. LOL. They immediately decided now, after all this time that they should do an epidural steroid injection in the nerve root that is compromised. We scheduled it yesterday then today I get a call from their nurse, they thought that would be too agreesive and so they would like to cancel that appt. they thought continuing with pt would be the way to do. I was livid pissed and basically told them I was nervous about letting them touch me in the first place given their lack of ability to diagnose what is going on with me.
I told them to cancel every appt that I have because they are just collecting insurance money. I am tempted to report them to my insurance.
The only good news in this is I researched and found a highly respected orthopedic surgeon who reviewed my records and wants to see me. Called me himself. I see him on the 21st and I am looking forward to it. In the meantime I am using water exercise and acupuncture and hoping it will really help.

I was tardy having my 18 month blood work done by almost 3 months. The good news is, so far all of my labs are coming back great! I will say my thyroid was low and we just adjusted my levothryoxine down again for the 3rd time.

Ugh! I still don't have maintenance figured out. Recently I had a 5lb gain and of course freaked out. I am now going back to basics and trying to reset myself a little bit.
-
Its a couple of weeks later and I'm just seeing this, Djmohr. How are you doing? I hope things are back on track, it must be so frustrating. I'm still loosing, but much slower now, and I get scared when I don't see the scale go down. I know you can do it. Sounds like you are facing it and moving in a positive direction now.

I am doing much better with weight management at the moment. I stopped two medications that were impacting my hunger and literally within a week I dropped from 168 to 161.4 so now I am at my lowest weight since before I had children.
I have some other stuff going on that is causing my appetite to literally be gone so I am sure that is helping but it is temporary so I am still trying to figure out maintenance. Lol, I think this is the hardest part.

I am excited tonight for 3 reasons! 1. I finally got access to a spine expert here in Milwaukee and they got me in next Tuesday! As most of you know I have been struggling with back pain . 2. My hubby is taking me out for date night tomorrow to the house of prime rib. I love prime rib! 3. I bought an adorable dress that looks fantastic on my new thin body that I am going to rock tomorrow night. It's been a long time since I have been out for something fun and if I feel good, we will go out for a movie after.

I just surpassed my ideal weight goal! Flying on cloud 9!

I'm really happy for you DJMOHR! You have been such an inspiration for me, and I thank you for all of your hard work and posts. I am also hoping for a tummy tuck in the next year so will be anxious to read your posts on this journey if you decide to go public with it. It's been 9 months for me with a loss of 110 #, and I attribute it partly to your motivation, positive posts and encouragement. WELL DONE!

Mmmm, Home made Salisbury steaks. It's what's for dinner!
-
I'm hangry today! I think I have had a gallon of water and cannot seem to get a handle on it. I haven't given in but I am hungry and angry that I am hungry. Hangry!
-
LOL!
Well, now I know why I was hangry! I usually consume between 1000 and 1200 calories, 75 to 80 grams of protein and less than 90grams of carbs.
I didn't log my food until after dinner last night mostly because I was in a funk all day. Although I hit my protein and water goals I only consumed less than 800 calories so I actually was hungry. Being 16 months out, that is simply not enough for me and I refused to give into snacking.
That explains it.
-
Hi- Djmohr its been a while...I am 8 months out now I hit around 1200 a day but with working out ( I power walk ALOT) I NET anywhere between 800-900 calories MOST days 3-5 days a week anyway. The other days Im at 1200 cal... which is still going to have us losing weight at anyway. How many pounds left to goal? Are you going to start maintaining? you look fabulous BTW Hope all is well on your side.

Yay! Shoulder surgery was done today and went better than expected. My an joint was very severe bone on bone, my shoulder was severely separated but they did not have to fix the rotator cuff! This means a much faster recovery and I am thrilled. No pain at the moment because they put a nerve block in. That will wear off late tonight and I am hoping pain is minimal. I slept for several hours early this evening and am doing well. Thanks for all the well wishes today everyone! You are all so very sweet.

Glad to hear the meds are helping and you got a new nights sleep. Are the exercising being done at home or with PT help? How long did hey say it would be before your back to normal and able to use that arm again.? I can't get my left hand behind my back and it is very frustrating at times. They will not do surgery on it or my back until I am below 250. What weight were you when you had this done?
-
Gosh, I had 5 back surgeries while I weighed 300lbs but it was because my spine was unstable and the risk far outweighed the danger. I had a 3 level cervical spinal fusion at 205lbs - last June. In November I had another back surgery that didn't work to relieve pressure on my t11 nerve root. I was about 180lbs.
Friday I weighed 168 when they repaired my shoulder.
When I was at my heaviest and had those surgeries for my lumbar fusions, I actually had an unstable spine and there really was no option for them other than to fix it. I would literally get stuck and not be able to move. That surgery worked but took many years before the pain became tolerable. I have nerve damage.
My shoulder should recover fairly quickly. I am currently doing small exercises to keep the joints moving at home but after the 24th I will be required to go to pt to get range of motion back. Before surgery I couldn't lift my arm up or out. I couldn't lay on my left side. I am glad this will fix that. I have similar issues with my right shoulder.

Getting ready for shoulder surgery tomorrow morning. I made lasagne soup with ricotta topping, cucumbers & sour cream, beef barley soup and grilled up some chicken breasts. Hubby cannot cook so it's either that or have him run out for food I don't even like. Everything is done and I can relax the rest of today.

MRI of my thoracic spine today. I hate having them because I am claustrophobic but am looking forward to getting a treatment plan that works for my thoracic spine.
-
Well ts over! I always ask for the cloth and headphones. This machine was so loud I couldn't even hear the music. LOL.
@WLSResources/ClothingExch I hope all goes well for yours!
I now have to wait 2 days for results and then the 18th I will have a game plan.
-
You're a brave little soldier. Physical therapy all around, barkeep.
What cloth? I don't know about that. And I've been unable to hear the headphones for the banging of the MRI equipment. I try to tell myself nice stories and think of people and places that I love. Nothing works quite well enough, but we try.

Ugh! I am having a nuclear stress test in about an hour in preparation for my shoulder surgery. Nuclear because with my crappy shoulder and back I cannot run on a treadmill. I hate the way that medication effects me. Oh well, I am expecting good results and the last time I had a stress test was about a week before my bypass in 2014. Not a fun day today....

Well, the test itself was no problem however I had to put my arms up over my head for the test. That resulted in my shoulder separating. Yes, seriously. I had a torn rotator cuff and severe arthritis of the AC joint now we can add a separated shoulder to that. I have a huge bump on my shoulder now. It's almost comical. I have to laugh or I think I would be crying. One more week and that will be repaired.

Roasted Chicken &Carrots for dinner tonight at my house. The darn house smells so good, I can hardly wait until it's done.

I am Normal!!! Ok, no smart a#% comments! LOL. Today, this morning I plugged my new weight in and I moved from overweight to a normal BMI! I am seriously so excited. First time since I was 19 years old!
-
My new favorite high protein no sugar treat. Chocolate chai tea made with skim milk. It is delicious! Drinking a small pot right now!
-
Home made beef with barley soup cooking in my stock pot. Mmmmm mmmmmm good!
-
Thank you. Anyone can cook. I pull most of my new recipes off Pinterest and then work with them to remove bad carbs and add good ones like a whole grain barley.
My husband ranted and raved which he never does on a soup.
Last night I also grabbed a new recipe for oven roasted BBq beef brisket. It was so delicious that ended up focused on just my protein. That never happens to me!
-
Stuck, stuck and still stuck. 1lb! That's all I am asking for. 1lb so I can be in a normal weight range. Not sure why this is so important to me but it is. Just when I get close, I hop on the scale and wham I gain a pound. I know that it is simply a fluctuation but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. I am trying to tell myself that it really doesn't matter so why do I get so pissed when I have been stuck for so long?!?!
-
I agree with @Pinkgirl1234 - 1 pound? I am a scale junkie. Have you thought about cutting your hair? manicure? pedicure? wrapping yourself in aluminum foil and going into a sauna? @Djmohr you have done an awesome job and that little... itty... bittty.... 16ounces is nothing.... YOU GOT THIS WHIPPED!
-
Trust me, I know that I have done great and I do feel great. I also look fantastic in clothes. I also know that if I had surgery to remove all my loose skin, I would be near the bottom of the range for my height.
For some reason, I simply want that 1 stinking pound. If I never get to the 165 goal I don't care but I want that 1 pound. And I know I will get it, it is only a matter of time. I will hunt it down and I will get rid of it. LOL! I have declared war, as of 8am central standard time today, me and that pound are at war.
