Doxie Mom of 3 got a reaction from epiphani in 4 months out & still don't feel hungry....
I went to the dr last week for severe dry heaving & nausea and explained that it is hard to eat because I do not get hungry. Does anyone else have this issue? She sent me right over for an upperGI and will have an endoscopy soon. The upperGI showed everything ok but omg I can't eat and have no energy. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

I too have a med pill container for morning, noon, mid-day, and evening. I have to take lots of pills as I am sure a lot of the gastric bypass ptients do as well. On Sundays I fill it for the week. I work from homwe so leave it at my desk and take them throughout the day. I have room for improvement inactually taking them that is for sure but I am getting there. I need to do a food app too so I can show my Dr. what I am eating.
    Good luck to ya!

Everyones skin is different, just like no two people will have the same post surgical journey. A lot depends on how old you are, how much you have to lose, and your specific skin elasticity. I agree with you completely, that I don't want to go through everything and still have lose skin. I am just planning on needing skin removal surgery at some point. Until I can get there I am just relishing in all the things I can do now. Don't be too concerned if you lose a lot of weight really fast and there is a little lose skin in your mid section.
It will take time for your body to adjust and your skin to spring back. The two things I have been doing, and a lot of people have recommended, are working to tone your muscles and exfoliate your skin. Take the time in the gym to really work on toning your muscles. This will help you to tighten that skin. The other thing is to use a loufa and scrub your skin. Getting the dead skin off allows for your body to generate that new skin that will be needed to tighten it up. One last idea is to regular use a lotion on your skin that is full Co-Enzyme Q-10. This Enzyme helps promote the skin tightening back up as well as moisturized and nourishes your skin.
Keep in mind, even if you did all of these things, you may still need skin removal just because of your body type. I still do them so when it comes time for that I am in the best position to make is successful. I cannot agree more about wanting to look the way you feel. I think every person who has the surgery feels that way. Keep up the faith and handle your business. Take hart in all of the amazing things you are capable of with your new body. Have patients and everything else will fall into place.

I'm 6 months out. I have lost 73 of the 85-100 I plan on losing. I am almost 49 years. I have had 3 children, two of which were 9 pounds plus. I've been married 24 years. I have been obese for 20 years. I was extremely athletic in high school and I have always weighed more than the charts say I should because of my muscle mass.
I tell you all of this information because all of those factors play a role in skin.
80% of my body has excess skin at this time. Honestly I was not prepared for this mentally. I expected the stomach and apron based on how big I was when I was pregnant. I did not expect the sag everywhere else. It's most noticeable in my arms, belly, thighs and boobs. But I also see it in my neck and face, although that is improving with a lot of moisturizing and time. I have wrinkles now that my face is not so plump!!!! I went from a 22 to a 12. My legs are probably a 10, but my belly and apron may not ever get there. And you know what, that's ok.
For some hydration will be the key. For others it will be exercise. Some will have kind genes, and others will have a harsh reality like me. None of us are losing weight slow enough for our body to adjust accordingly. My 17 year old lost 65 pounds over the course of a year and has no skin issues. Granted, she's 17, but she also lost 1.25 a week. That slow loss let her skin rebound.
Here is my personal opinion about this- having weight loss surgery of any kind is about health. While we all want to look good, that is a secondary factor in this situation. I knew going in that my body image issues would not go away but they would just change. Do I like what I see in the mirror any better now? Honestly, no. Do I feel great in my new regular size clothes? Absolutely! Most importantly I feel better knowing I'm not going to die from the medical issues that plagued me 6 months ago.
As mentioned above, lots of people have plastic surgery after WLS surgery. It's very expensive and most insurance companies don't pay for it. So it's a big decision. It's also often a longer recovery than the WLS surgery. I went to a plastics session that occurred during my practice's monthly support group. The most important thing the plastic surgeon stressed was this: "you have 2 choices: skin or scars" You will have one of them.
I have not given up on my skin. I am changing my exercise routine, adding more weight training, looking at different moisturizers, and trying to better hydrate. I am also not closing the door on plastics, but that's at least 6-12 months away

My doctor advised me skin removal surgery is very common after wls. Working out will help but it is possible for it to be an option for you when you get to goal. My BFF lost 130 lbs and still needed a Tummy Tuck. It is all a personal choice. For me the focus is getting to goal and then I will worry about excess skin.
    Good luck to you!

One other thing I recently learned is your Dr can provide you with a card that confirms your surgery and you present it to the waiter and they will often really adjust your size meal and price. Wls is so common now that a lot of restaurants want to cater to us. Some restaurants won't let you order from the kids menu unless you are a kid but with this card they may now. We have a lot of friends that like to go to buffets and I told the cashier I had wls and she charged me the kids rate. That was really nice since all I ate was a very small amount of mashed taters and small amount of cottage cheese. That way we felt like we could still go with our friends and save $$ too.
    Good luck!

I could play devil's advocate and say WLS is also part of what makes me, well... me. Along with many, many other things I have done and experienced in my 47 years of life that make me the person I am today. My struggle with my weight has been a part of my whole life and I'm sure, hell I KNOW, it has shaped me in ways both positive and negative. It has for all of us. If not, why would any of us do something so drastic as to get surgically altered to lose weight? No, this surgery does not define me or who I am, but it's part of this wild and crazy journey I call my life, and I don't mind letting people know that this is part (one of many) of who I am.

Since the topic was so eloquently brought up, I thought I would share MY reason for not telling the public at large about my decision to have WLS. No, I am not ashamed, embarrassed nor am I being dishonest with myself. I am not protecting myself from ridicule or dissension and I do not care if my decision is a popular one or unpopular. I know I've shared this before, so pardon me if I bore you with a repeat.

I am a mom, a wife and a successful business owner. I am the VP of my HOA, I have held dozens of positions on the PTA both locally and nationally. I work with my sorority undergrad group, I volunteer at a women's shelter, I work with special needs children. I do mud runs, zumba and am a training instructor at my martial arts school. I organize charity 5ks, lock ins and I used to be a girl scout leader. I was a theater major before I wizened up about my talents and now I am a theater mom. I can't sing, but I can dance when I've had a few cocktails. I can cross one eye while leaving the other one straight. I've been skiing double black diamonds all my life and I am a diamond certified gemologist. I am currently writing a book on my field of business. I have broken my nose 4 times doing stupid things and still don't have a bump. I had a brain tumor. Both of my kids attend special high schools for extremely gifted children and they obviously get it from me, not my husband whom I've been married to for 20 years. I drive a minivan but I prefer to go offroading in a jeep. I am white Water certified in a kayak and a canoe. I have a wicked sense of humor and I hug strangers randomly. I am pro-choice, a libertarian, and a gay right's advocate. I could bore you with more, but I am sure that is more than enough to digest for ow.

I am *so much more* than someone who has had WLS. I would much prefer to learn about the person I am with than explain what a sleeve is. I don't care for my weight loss to be the center of conversation every time I see someone nor do I feel the need to be the advocate for such a personal decision.
When people ask, I tell them the truth. I sought the advice of a doctor and nutritionist. I follow a low carb, high Protein diet. I shake my ass a *lot*. I am eating healthier and have made the right choices for *me* to be successful at weight loss. I owe no one any more than that.

It is up to me to choose how I want to be defined. My choice is NOT as a WLS patient. If you choose differently, so be it. I will not judge you or shame you nor will I try to decide for you. Your body, your choice. Run with it.

Yep. I've been feeling this since I started on solids. I don't get any kind of enjoyment out of eating. I mean, I can tell when I'm done but there's no feeling of satisfaction or "man, that was really good" that comes with a meal anymore. It makes me kind of sad.

Thanks all for such great feedback! You've all given me so much to think about. I think I am leaning more towards this suggestion of doing our regular thing with the appetizers and have each of the adult kids make their own favorite so everyone has something they like and will eat. Telling my son & his girlfriend not to come isn't an option since they've already got their plane tickets and I really do want to see them (just not have the snarky remarks about my weight.) I am hoping he will be on his best behavior since he is bringing the girl. If she is smart, she would be highly appalled at any guy who treated his mother badly in front of her.
I think planning to stay at home sounds like my best bet too since I really am not sure what I will be feeling like and I'd hate to plan on us all going to the friend's and at the last minute have to bail out (and then not have any food planned for at home.) If it were just my husband and I, it wouldn't matter. If we stay home, then if I get wiped out, it will be no big deal to go take a nap. Also, with the very informal finger foods, what I eat or don't eat won't be so obvious and hopefully won't be the central topic of conversation.
Doxie Mom of 3 - yes, I am having the RNY and our diet packet says no corn. It does include milk in a lot of the daily menu examples, so I think it is okay as long as we don't develop any intolerance.
MisforMimi - you are right that I need to take care of myself first and simply not put up with rudeness from anyone. I am thinking I may go ahead and tell my son about the surgery before he comes. Who knows, he might even surprise me with some new maturity. (One can only hope!)

Wow! I am excited, elated, and obliviously happy about my decision to have weight loss surgery! When I look at photos of me before and after surgery my first instinct is to praise God for the doctors who did the surgery and the nurses, heck all of the employees working in that hospital who made my surgery uneventful and ensured my speedy recovery! Next I get overwhelmed with emotion that ranges from crying and then laughing because after 20 years of being obese and unhealthy I am now healthy and a few pounds away from my goal weight. I am grateful for the support and information I get from all of you here and I thank my god that even though we are millions of miles aprat I consider all of you my family. To anyone reading this who is feeling unsure or afraid my wish for you is that you will not give up because you will love the new you just as much as I love the new me!!! I am walking fiv emiles every day and I can mop my floors withour any back pain or being overcome with shortness of breath. I am off of my blood pressure meds as they were causing my blood pressure to drop too low, my HC1 test is now ata normal range as I can no longer tolerate anything sweet, no articifical sweetners for me I only use blue guava Syrup (10 calories per teaspoon) when I need to sweeten a drink or my hot Cereal in the morning. Life is good for me and my family now as I am more active with my grands and great grands now that I am healthier. I pray that everyone experiences the same results or even better ones as you journey on the road to a healthier, happier you. God Bless

Time to talk to your doctor. There are meds that they can give you to help. They will also want to make sure you do not have a stricture.
Also this will pass and is normal to feel regret. We all go through it. Things will get better and easier.
