I just have to share because I'm finally seeing a difference in my body! I'm 3 months post-op and I have lost 74 lbs. I took a picture this weekend and finally could see a big difference. YAY for little victories and a place to share it where others understand completely!

I bought a Farberware blender at Walmart for $20. Works great. It has 2 different sized cups.

The use of/not of a straw when drinking liquids has been discussed, sometimes passionately, many times before.
I found "scientific" images of circumstances where they should not be utilized.

I have to recommend the squatty potty to all my friends here. Not only has it helped me but my non-sleeved wife (who mocked me when I bought it) uses it religiously!

Not a fun topic at all but I wish I had this info prior to what happened to me today. This post is for all the newly sleeved, you will want to read this.
OK, I was sleeved May 10th and my last BM was on the 9th. I'm feeling really good, the surgery was successful and I never had to use pain meds. I mention this because I was told only IF I take pain meds, should I also take a stool softener. No softener for me, I never needed the pain meds! This morning I had my 1-week post-op Dr appointment where I mentioned I still had no BM. I was told it is very normal and due to a liquid diet, I may not have one until the puréed stage.
About 2 hours after arriving home, my body signaled I had to finally make a BM! My happiness went from this is great to call 911, NOW! You see, I was on the toilet for about 1/2 hour lightly pushing, then pushing harder then to rocking around the seat doing what I could to release the demon inside me... NOTHING worked.
I finally gave up took a walk drank some Water and then the urge to go came back a second time...NOTHING came out. I ended up becoming very dizzy, I started to sweat, I saw stars then everything around me went white! I was passing out from the pain of pushing (hurt my tummy) and from the pain my bottom was feeling (felt like I was passing a small watermelon wrapped with barbed wire). Luckily, my sweet husband came to my rescue with a cold water and ice pack and his shirt around his nose.
He called the nurse and she recommended an enema, some milk of magnesium, and suppositories...yeah, forget the enema you will not be able to contort your wounded tummy properly. You drink the magnesium and take the suppository!!
So, about 10 minutes later and more pain and screaming, I gave birth to something so incredible I couldn't believe my eyes (I see why I was in pain if you know what I mean). Now, I'm literally "pissing" out of my ass, which is in so much pain.
Moral of this disgusting story, take a stool softener no matter what even if you don't take pain meds and , especially if you haven't pooped in 2 days maybe try some milk of magnesium too. I hope this post saves at least 1 persons rump!

I've just realised I have lost 100lbs! I only weigh once a month so this actually happened a couple of weeks ago! I've gone from 260lb to 160lb, although it may be a bit less than that now. The last 20years has totally revolved around my bathroom scales and I simply haven't had a life. Thankfully now I have been able to put the scales away and get out there and live life.....happy' happy, happy!
I am off to a reunion this weekend with people I haven't seen for years (some of them for 30+ years). This is something I would NEVER have had the confidence to do last year. I will probably look a lot more wrinkly than some people there (I'm 63) but I simple don't care. Having lost weight I just can't describe how good I feel! Happy days! I feel there is nothing I can't do - I am just coming to the end of the C25K and can now run for 25 minutes!
For anyone considering the sleeve I really can't think of any down sides - just DO IT!

I was sleeved on July of 2014. It has been a long journey of learning patience, will power, and effort. Surgery is not a solution, but it is a great tool. You get out of it exactly what you put into it. No regrets so far!

I would be more concerned about getting enough Protein than calories. Try eating 5-6 very small meals of protein. Add Protein Powder to non caloric drinks or broth. You could try cottage cheese, hummus, soft cheese, Beans, tuna.

Your friend is probably afraid that you will change after and not be her fat buddy any more. She needs to change. If she will not support you, you may need to distance yourself. Your health is more important.
