Meonthelist reacted to Jen - a work in progress in October 2014 sleevers check in please!
Hey everyone! I just wanted to keep in touch with everyone on the postop boards now that most of us are done and in a few more days the remainder of us October sleevers will be done as well.
How is everyone doing? Feel free to share any problems, suggestions, recipes that helped you get your Protein in, and any other advice you'd like to share. Ask questions, if you have them. Use this thread as you see fit, but mostly to keep in touch with everyone.
I know quite a few people went to the Facebook page. I know it's private, but I've seen cases where private information was temporarily made public on Facebook by Facebook glitches/viruses/hacks. I know there is no intention of it going public but I rather not take the risk.
So I hope to hear from you all soon!!
    Best wishes and good luck!

I had pretty severe reflux pre surgery as well. My Dr. also recommended bypass rather than sleeve due to this. They found an esophageal hernia in my scope pre op. Dr. said that repairing this would not guarantee no more reflux and that the sleeve surgery makes it worse for many. I could not wrap my head around bypass for some reason. I was willing to try the sleeve first and I am so happy did! I have had ZERO reflux issues! I took 1 antacid pill about 1 month out and have never taken another. I was taking Prevacid and Nexium 2 xs a day most days before surgery as well as Tums and Pepto. I think the surgical repair of the hernia as well as the change in amount of food and type of food has done wonders. I wish you the best of luck!

I am so glad to hear from people on this site again! The Facebook thing was too scary for me! I haven't been losing in several months. I think I've relaxed a little too much on what I am eating. I am not gaining either. I really want to get down to 164 which puts me in " normal" on the bmi chart. I am currently at 176. I feel like "me" again! I haven't been back to see the Dr yet but I saw the nutritionist last month to check in and make sure I am staying on top of things. She told me that a Dr wouldn't even talk to me about my weight at this point! I wanted to cry! I can't remember a time in my life where I wasn't the girl with a weight problem! Those of you still losing, would you mind sharing what a day of your food journal looks like? How much are you exercising? Is anyone considering surgery to remove excess skin?

Today I hit 100 pounds gone!!! Forever! I am no longer questioning if I can do this. I am DETERMINED that I can!
I CAN DO THIS! They say you have to write your goals down, so I am writing it down that this girl will NEVER see a
"2" in the front of my weight again. I checked this weekend and for the first time since I can remember, I am "overweight" rather than "Obese" or "Morbid Obese". Feels amazing! Hope everyone is doing well!

Hello everyone! I am loving all of the updates on how everyone is doing! I wanted to share the most eye opening moment I have had since my surgery....
I am leaving for a business trip today. I usually have my Husband weigh himself and then my bag for me to make sure I am not past the weight limit for checked bags. In the past, I had him do this for fear that my little bathroom scale couldn't
handle both my weight and the luggage. That brings tears to my eyes saying that "out loud" but it's the truth.
Today, I weighed myself and then my bags! When I struggled to get my 45 lb bag and myself up on the scale and I saw the weight displayed at first, I was elated that we both registered! Success.
What happened next literally took my breath away. I was able to put into perspective just how much extra weight I have lost! It was amazing how heavy 45 lbs felt! And to realize I was carrying double that just a few short months ago was an amazing revelation. I would highly recommend stepping on the scale with the weight you have lost to REALLY understand how successful we all are!
    Happy Monday everyone!

    Looking great everybody!!
I can totally empathize with this dilemma.
I was sorting through clothes the other day trying to get rid of anything too big (I do this about once a week) and found a tshirt I wasn't familiar with. I assumed it was one I had bought awhile back and forgot about it because it was too small or something like that. It was a brand new looking Little Big Town Concert tshirt and I really like it so I went ahead and wore it for the day. My husband came home from work and asked me why I was wearing his shirt?!? I just stared at him. NO WAY could I fit into his clothes. He's so much smaller and always has been. He weighs around 200 right now and he's about 6'. I couldn't believe I was wearing his shirt. I actually had to go in the closet and find another one of his shirts to try on and IT FIT! Not that I want to wear my husbands clothes all the time, it just amazes me that I could do that. Of course the boob area is still tight but otherwise it fit great. I don't see us being close to the same size when we're together. I still see him as being so much smaller than me. I don't know what it will take to eventually see and understand the changes that are happening and what they look like to others. For now the only reference I understand is what fits.

I'm still trying to get used to it. Not so easy when there's such a before and after difference. My surgery was just over two years ago.

Overall quality of life. I am almost 4 months out. My biggest surprise is how quickly I reached my "minimum goals" for my overall quality of life. Even though I am only about halfway to the ultimate weight loss "goal," I am already so much more comfortable in my own skin. I now look "average" not huge and I can fit in chairs and bathrooms and look decent in clothes. My BP is better and I do not hurt like used to. Although I'd like to lose more, if I didn't, I would still be okay because I can move okay and function normally in the world again. For me, it is important to acknowledge how far I've come already so I do not get caught up in what could be an elusive goal of a number on a scale. The only "symptom" I did not expect was how dry my facial skin would get, but, that's just a matter of updating my moisturizer. But being able to feel pretty again -- and feel good again -- and just "fitting in" again: priceless.
    Good luck!

Hi guys! I'm just a few weeks out from 6 months. I have lost a total of 112 pounds. I've gone down from size 32 jeans being really tight to size 26 being loose, and on top I've gone from a 32/5X to a 24/3X or 22/2X, depending on cut and material. I'm about a 24 dress size now.
About me: 5'8", mid-30s, large frame, PCOS and hypothyroid
    What I eat:
Breakfast: a Protein shake or Protein Bar
Lunch: 3-4 ounces of meat, 3-4 ounces of veg, sometimes 1-2 ounces of starch if there is room left
Afternoon snack: Protein Bar or alternate snack (cheese, veggies and dip, etc.)
Dinner: Whatever the family is eating, adapted to focus on Protein and veg, eaten in the 3 bites protein 2 bites veg 1 bite starch pattern
I sometimes add another snack if I've done a heavy workout and need a little something else - a piece of fruit or some cheese, often.
    On average, I'm getting:
    1230 calories
    30g sugar
    76g protein
    26g Fiber
    1800 mg sodium
    656 mg Calcium before supplementation
    7mg Iron before supplementation
    108g carbs
    Working out:
I strive for 150 minutes of activity a week. I mostly do walking, and then 3 times a week on average I go to the gym for high-intensity interval cardio plus weight training. I lift pretty heavy (8 reps per set) and have been really happy with the strength gains I've seen. I do a lot of walking apps and games to keep myself interested - The Walk, Zombies, Run!, and Ingress, for instance.
    NSVs:
    So many!
-I can now sit painlessly in the Evil Chairs in my office
-I can now fit into restaurant booths
-I can buy clothes in more than just one store instead of just being limited to Catherine's
-My bad knee is waaaaaaay better, so I don't need a cane to walk anymore
-I am off BP meds and metformin
-I have more energy and feel overall happier
I'm going to fly somewhere next month. Can't wait!

I am so glad to see people posting on this thread again! I have been wondering how everyone is doing. I am curious how everyone is eating. I have recently seen the nutritionist and was told I can eat "normal" This scares me!!! If I know what "normal" was, I don't think I would have put my self in a situation to need bariatric surgery! LOL!! I am just curious how and what everyone else is doing. Are you "dieting" or following a meal plan from your surgeon of some sort? I have been focusing on Protein but was told I need to begin eating more and not relying on Protein supplements as much at this point. Are you all avoiding carbs or fat? So many questions!!

Your weight loss is ahh mazing!!! I am stunned w/how little you eat. I truly wish I had your restriction. I eat a whopping 1200 cal a day (per nutrionist instructions) and can eat more If I allowed myself.
I too have hypothyroid & have been using that as my excuse for not losing more (I average 5 lbs a month, the last two months). Now seeing your results, I can't really use that as a crutch.
If I'm honest I know I'm not eating as well as I should. I've gotten a little laxed w/the carbs and exercise.
I have my 6 mo f/u in April. The exercise Physiologist set a goal for me to be between 182-186lb. This morning I was at 186 but I KNOW I can so much better. I just have to buckle down! !!!
Sorry for the ramble, just had a lot to say, lol.

    Hello All,
A week past my 5 month post surgery date and feeling good! Wondering what everyone is eating and how many calories you're taking in? My capacity for food intake is definitely more than it was (as expected) but it makes me a little wary. Working on keeping my meals structured to 5 small ones a day. Would love to hear other stories.....do tell!
