Just heard from my sister..whewwww! They were suppose to call me right after surgery, but dropped the ball. I had called the hospital and they don't speak english. I can finally rest and get a nap in today. Everything went well. She's not in any pain at all. Thanks for all your concerns. She'll post her experience later.

How stressful! I'm sure she's fine and just sleeping. Where is she having surgery? I was at OCC and my parents and sister were given their direct line as well as the on call doctor's number. Is there anyway you can contact the facility just to check on her? Or if she went through a Medical Tourism company, can you contact the coordinator?

My twin @@bams1220 is having her WLS in Mexico today. I was suppose to be there with her, but something came up and I couldn't go so she went alone yesterday. I'm the brave, stronger one and will try anything once. I've even gone on vacation alone before. This is her first time going on a trip alone and all the way to Mexico at that and to have this surgery. I had to encourage her, but it didn't take much because she really wanted to have this surgery. Her insurance doesn't cover the surgery. My date will be in January or February which will be covered by insurance. We're very close and I've been communicating with her since I dropped her off at the airport. She was suppose to be first but her surgery was delayed this morning. I haven't heard from her since they picked her up from the hotel. Can't wait to hear how she's doing. Hopefully something can be done or maybe consider going to Mexico. My twin sister's insurance doesn't cover the surgery so she's heading to Mexico next week. Hope things work out for you if they can appeal.

@sleevedup...are you self pay. Because if you're going through your insurance, you can't lose any more weight. Your BMI is under 35 right now. As I mentioned find a doctor now and get it done, especially if you're self-pay. I know that's what I would do. I'm too impatient to wait on something that might not happen.

Congrats...it will be here before you know it. Can't wait until I'm finished with this process.

For those of you who have AETNA, be careful about your weight gain. I have AETNA open access and I called the insurance company to verify because I was told previously that it was ok as long as there is no net gain at the end of my 3 months. WRONG! There cannot be any weight gain during your 3 month or 6 month weigh-ins with your PCP or surgeons office. You will be denied. Make sure you have lost weight each time you go in to weigh-in. With that being said make sure you know what your policy entails.

I use to do the same thing on other diets and will probably do it after the surgery. I think it's normal because we want to make sure we're eating the things with the right ingredients.

Well to everyone having December surgery - good luck!! Does anyone else not have any family support at all? I think I will be in the hospital on my own which sucks, but who knows, maybe they will support me in the end.
I guess we all have the chance to change our lives now, just have to make sure we work with the sleeve and not against it and regain. PLEASE keep in touch

get prepped for certain things you will have to do for the rest of your life
i always say/think the Water rules are the most important
stop drinking 30 minutes before you eat
never drink with meal
don't drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat
drink at least 64 oz
i know this is a lot to "swallow" LOL
i know you will be successful
eat Proteins first
limit your carbs
chew food thoroughly into teeny pieces
take small bites
eat very slowly
put utensil down between bites
put your food on a small plate
ALWAYS measure your food
other things too
follow all the rules that you are given by your NUT & doc

@Ladiec2 I have United Healthcare Community of Maryland. At my 4 month visit (insurance required 6) I had all of my pre-op requirements for both the insurance company and my doctor completed except for the last 2 months of supervised diet visits. During that appointment my doctor mentioned how stupid it was they everything was done and the only thing I had left was to come visit her 2 more times. She said we should submit it early and see what happened. She and I both felt it would more than likely be denied, but what the heck was it going to hurt to give it a shot. So we did! And lo and behold, less than 48 hours after they submitted my paperwork, I got approved, 2 months early!
Nothing beats a failure but a try!

Congratulations!!! I'm excited for you and now am getting a lil anxious. Did you ask the nurse to submit your paperwork early? I want to try to do the same thing. I'm doing 3 months but as of next week will be only 1 month. I've completed all the ins requirements. I guess it won't hurt to try. What ins do u have?

OMG!!!!! I just got the call from fidelis! This is sooooooo surreal to me! I seriously did NOT think I would get approved. It took me less than ONE month to complete all the requirements before my surgeons office would submit the paperwork, and I've only had this insurance since NOvember 1st. I thought for sure they would deny me and request more time or more health records, BUT NOPE!!!!!!!
I can't even believe this!!!!!!

I had to get a cardiac and pulmonologist clearance, they included an echocardiogram and a stress test and a breathing test. a psych eval, barium swallow, and go to one support group meeting.
I luckily didn't need to do any supervised dieting.

Wow that is awesome. WHat were your requirements. I'm going to ask that they submit mine early but Aetnas policy is 3 months. If I get denied at least I'll know if there is anything else that is required of me. Congrats!!!

Jess....your stats are very close to ours hers is: 5'2", current weight 190. My stats 5'3", current weight 197.

Dr Halmi with blue point surgical is one of the best in the country.

Hi Jess. My twin sister is having hers done over the Xmas holiday as well. Originally she was going to get it done in March but since she's off for two weeks during the holidays she changed her date. I'm not having mine done until probably early February. I would love to have mine done over the Xmas break too because my office is closed for two weeks. I'm depending on insurance and my 3 months won't be up until January. Her name is bams1220. Good luck

My favorites are the banana, orange cream, and vanilla; in that order. I haven't tried the strawberry yet. If u like coffee, you might like the ice latte. I didn't care for it. The chocolate was just ok. Try the samples first before you buy the bigger bag.
