I too have a low BMI. For that reason, I intend to only tell a couple of family members and that's it. I don't want to here any critics asking me why I did it or that I don't look like I need it. I am considered morbidly obese and have severe sleep apnea, RA, and back pain. I choose not to have to explain these conditions because, quite frankly, my health issue is none of their business.

Hello….I have RA and I'm 2 weeks prep. I stopped my meds 2 weeks ago so it'll be 4 weeks before surgery that I won't have taken my meds. The first couple of days was rough. I could only take tylenol. Since I've started my pre-op diet a couple of days ago it really hasn't been that bad…just stiffness in my hands when I wake up in the morning. I can't start back on my meds until 2 weeks after the surgery. My surgery is scheduled for March 4. I don't regret my decision at all. I'm hoping that once I lose the weight my RA and fibromyalgia will improve. 4 weeks post op I'll let you know how things are going. good luck!

Hi Fab@Forty: I'm at the beginning stage. I participated in a webinar last night with Dr. Elariny at INOVA Fair Oaks. I really enjoyed his presentation. I've done several. I've been putting this off for over a year and now its TIME! I have an appt. with him in a couple of weeks. So I hope all goes well. What stage are you at? Have you already submitted your paperwork...who is your insur. carrier?

Hello: I too have AETNA and am about to begin the process. I went to a seminar last year In Richmond, VA (Oct 16) and only have a couple of weeks to make an appt. with that Dr. so I won't have to sit thru the seminar again. I participated in 2 Webinars this week and I actually like one of those Drs. better. So I think I'm gonna make an appt with the one at INOVA Hosp. in Fairfax. I am very excited and I hope AETNA approves my surgery. My BMI is 35.2 (borderline) withSleep Apnea and Rheumatoid Arthritis. I've tried everything over the past years and I just keep gaining it all back and then some. So good luck to you with AETNA!

I had my surgery on Wednesday and it went well. I had some pain so dilauidid (sp) pain meds was my best friend. I have not passed gas at all; just been doing some burping. I had a slight fever but nothing they were too worried about. I didn't have a drain either. I did walk a lot. Thank God my sister was here with me to push me when I didn't want to do anything but sleep. I'm heading home sometime today; can't wait.

Wow. you're better than me. if I couldn't reach them by phone, I would've been at that office the very second I found out so they can look you straight in the eye. I hope you're calling and letting them know that you have a buddy that is getting surgery that day and that they lied to you.

I'm scheduled for surgery on Wednesday and am starting to feel ill. I'm going down to the nurse in our building to check my temp. I hope that it's ok.

You need to contact your dr regarding the steroids. Did the dr you went to know that you were having surgery this week?

Wow!!! You look amazing. You will be my inspiration girl! I do have a question. How did you get your arms to look like that without having hanging skin? I'm afraid of having hanging skin and won't be able to wear sleeveless clothes. How often do you work out and what do you do? Again, you rock!!!

Hey all! I haven't posted since the very early days out...I was sleeved on 10/2/13 at 273 pounds. I reached goal in 9.5 months which was 159 pounds which would put me at a normal bmi. At about 8 months post op I started running. That was a game changer! I have since completed a triathlon, a 5k, 2 10ks, 4 half marathons, and on January 25th, 2015 I became a marathoner! I went on to lose and additional 20 pounds and I've been maintaining 20 pounds below goal ever since. From a size 22/24 to a size 2/4. I eat clean and train hard! I am really living my best life now!

I started my pre op last Wednesday and the first 3 days were rough. I did cheat a little each day but I buckled down and got back on track full force the 4th day. I would be fine until I got home. At work I did everything I was suppose to do. I realize that in order to beat the hunger pains at night I needed to get in bed earlier and that really helped. I'm on day 7 and things are going pretty well except for the occasional headaches. 7 more day....ugh!!! I can do this. My surgery date is March 4 and I'm scheduled to be the first one at 8 am. I have been scheduled for March 4th, however it is now official because I now have my approval from the insurance company. Now the real nerves have set in. I have waited to tell family till the approval was in, and now that I have put it out there I am so nervous. I am quite panicky. I know I am doing the right thing so why am I so freaked out? Family is very supportive thank goodness, but wow I just dunno.

March 4th for me!!

march 4th for me,excited and alittle scared

My date is March 4th!!! I'm excited and nervous. I started my 14 day liquid diet today and am doing ok for the most part. I keep having thoughts of backing out and arguing with myself that I don't have to do this but i'm pushing through those thoughts and thinking of all the benefits of having the surgery. I'm so glad there is a site like this to come and talk to others and not be judged...I know i'll make it through this because I have to and most of all WANT to!
