Good job on your weightloss so far! I would just drink some extra Water to wash out the salt and immediately return to the liquid diet.

I'd avoid the Pasta, rice, bread, etc so soon and focus on getting in your Protein through food. If you are getting in all your Protein and still have room, start adding some non-starchy veggies, well cooked at first (if you plan allows it)
That said, how fast you lose depends on a bunch of factors: how heavy you are to begin with, if you lost a lot pre-op, your age, metabolism, etc.
I'm at my one month mark and have lost 15 lbs this first month.

Feb 1st here. Can't believe tomorrow is my one month surgaversary already! Hope everyone is doing well. I've not had any issues with my pouch not liking certain foods, but I'm still on the soft stage for another 1.5 weeks. Down 15 lbs as of last week from the surgery day, but then had the 3rd-week-stall that so many do. The scale will start moving again this week, I can feel it!
Other Feb folks want to check in and let us know how you are doing?

I had the same concerns as you, and spent some time reading research on the ASMBS site. There are actual metabolic changes that take place with the RNY procedure that do affect the long-term outcome compared to regular dieting. One example is our metabolic rate: through normal dieting, our metabolism slows down. But with RNY, it doesn't slow down as we drop weight -- it may even increase for some time.
There's also some malabsorption for awhile. I'm not sure what the role is of malabsorption in early weightloss, as it doesn't seem like a terribly lot that's malabsorbed, but even 10-20% would have an impact.
The stats on weight regain with RNY compared to just diet & exercise at the 5 year mark suggest that there is definitely a difference between having the surgery and not.

My lapband did not work long term and caused various problems for me. I've got more hope for the RNY, even if I don't get down as far as I'd like to with it.

Might be salt having you gain Water.
    Might be poop.
Hard to tell. Our bodies are fickle on the day to day weight loss; we need to look at it over time. I've been at a stall too, and gained 2 lbs from where I was 1/2 week ago.
You need to eat your daily Protein requirement and get in your fluids. The fluids are super important! And if you don't get in your Protein, your body is going to start consuming your lean muscle mass. You want it to be using up your fat stores -- the muscle is what keeps your metabolism up so you burn more calories.
Stick with the diet your dietician/nutritionist gave you at your surgery center, and if they didn't give you one you can certainly get that advice here from those going through it. Protein and fluids, fluids and protein!

Generally your surgery center will provide guidelines on what they want you taking after surgery.
I'm on: Celebrate Multi (2x daily) chewable, Celebrate Iron+C chewable (because my multi doesn't have iron), and daily sublingual B12.
At 5 weeks I add in a daily Calcium chew. I have a bunch of samples from my dietician to try that I'm going to use before picking one.
Additionally: a stool softener. They suggested Milk of Magnesia and/or Miralax as needed. I needed it at first, right now I don't. I'm going to add a probiotic here this week though, as I've been having diarrhea issues (TMI, I know). It's helped in the past with that sort of thing. I prefer the kind you stir into a bit of Water or yogurt rather than capsules, so I have to go buy in person as they are refrigerated and not generally available to buy online.

Our first blood panel is at 6 months to check for deficiencies, at which point I'll know if I need to supplement with Vit D or something else.

Dieting is hard. If it were easy, we'd all be thin without needing surgery!
Just do your best and keep at it. I'm the type of person that has to stay away from the junk altogether -- trying to have sugar in moderation just doesn't work for me. Others can schedule dessert once a week and go the rest of the week not having it, and for them it's not a problem. You know yourself best -- are you able to schedule a treat in for once in awhile as a way of sticking to your diet the rest of the time?
Are you someone who likes challenges? Maybe you can join a diet or fitness challenge (either on here, or check out DietBet).
Otherwise just keep trucking along. If you mess up, don't write the day off, or the diet off: just pick right back up and keep going.

For me it was the stacking up of issues: tired all the time, high blood pressure, diabetes and Metformin wasn't getting my blood sugar under control which started to cause issues, high cholesterol, sleep apnea... in the fall I started taking more pills for these things and I decided it was time to get things under control. I was 46, almost 47 and didn't want to start having heart issues or problems from the diabetes quite so soon!

I madethis today, wanting some deviled eggs, and decided to switch up the mayo with hummus! I used spicy hummus and they were DELICIOUS!
    4 eggs hardboiled
3-4 TBSP hummus (I used supremely spicy hummus by Sabra mixed up)
    I TSP mustard
A teeny bit of mayo will help make it more creamy for those who like a more creamy filling
Slice eggs in half and combine yolks with hummus, mustard, and maybe mayo for filling. Fill egg whites. Consume!
I made it with 3 TBSP hummus and a tbsp miracle whip and 4 halves (or two eggs) was almost 14g of protein!!!!

My surgery was Feb 1st and I'm stalled as well since last week. It's normal; I'm just hanging in there figuring the scale will start moving again in a few days. I'm tracking everything so I know it's not because I'm eating too much.
    We'll get there!

MerryHearted reacted to nursedennise in 3 weeks post out and just starting to feel bad
I am 4 1/2 weeks out and finally just starting to feel myself again. First few weeks I was absolutely exhausted. I went back to work after two weeks and find I need to go to bed earlier than usual. Left sided abdominal pain is just a dull ache now unless I overdue it but enough that I need Tylenol every day. Still can't get in all my Protein and Water though. I average about 32-40 oz water and maybe 50 G protein. But all is getting better. I guess what I'm trying to say is that as time goes on, it will get easier to meet your requirements, easier to walk, not as tired etc. energy will improve. Listen to your body and try not to get discouraged by anyone who makes it seem like it's a breeze and that they are doing everything correctly so why can't you. Forums are similar to Facebook in that there's always people who make things seem like they're life is skipping through roses all day, so we second guess ourselves and wonder what we are doing wrong. Listen to your body, listen to your doctor and nut, and take it one day at a time.

No complications here. i had my revision on Oct 4. I still have burping when consuming anything (even water). But I assume that will resolve over time. My surgeon warned me that if there was too much scar tissue he would have to do a sleeve instead (he didn't have to). I'd had my band since 2005 and I was good to go. One thing he told me is that my pouch is bigger than he normally does 55 vs 35 because of the stretching of my stomach that the band did. He said it shouldn't be an issue though, he still thinks I'll have good results.
best thing i've ever done and I've found recovery easier with this surgery than the original band. eg I only took painkillers while in the hospital (2 days) and I"m back at work 2 weeks later. I would have been back last week except I caught a cold.

You didn't fail the surgery, the surgery failed you. I tried to make things work with my band for over 10 years. I lost 90 lbs initially, but that was due to initial swelling and the fact that I am very good at "dieting" but not good at maintaining. I converted to bypass 6 months ago and it is a completely different ballgame. I can eat dense Protein and it fills me up. I stop eating because I want to and not because I have to. Don't blame yourself. We have a disease. The treatment was faulty, but there are better options! Hang in there!

Man, I feel your pain! I also have PCOS and lost soooo slooowww in the beginning. I think I lost basically what you did! then by month 4, I picked up to about 20 pounds a month, sometimes a little over. I have never in all these months come close to losing 30 pounds in one month. And yet... 8 months and two days post op and I've lost 141 since surgery, averaging 17 pounds a month. It ain't over till it's over! And it really does all add up and even out in the end. Don't get discouraged and bogged down by the negative, it's bad for your health.
Seriously though. Don't even worry about it. You have no idea what's around the corner, and in a year you'll think you were being silly about this. I know I definitely do!

I had my lapband removed and converted to gastric bypass on March 7 2016. Forever gone is the constant sliming, throwing up, and the worst reflux ever,( which included several bouts of aspiration pneumonia). This is the best I have felt in years. My HW 265. My initial visit weight-255. My current weight.......I'm in onederland!! 195. I need to lose 10 more before September 18...a cruise to Bermuda!! My goal is 155, although that dosent seem ever possible. I think I am definitely slower at this than most...but feel better than I have for years. Anyone else going this slow?? Maybe I've lost all I am going to?? Even if....it was worth it!!

Boy, that much sugar these days gives me incredible stomach pain from gas. (TMI? hehe) Definitely not weight loss conducive food anyway... the guideline post-banding is no liquid calories except for your daily dairy. For optimum success, better decide now to just stay away from caloric liquids even if they won't make you die of gas pain. :phanvan

MerryHearted got a reaction from Kiskis in Does your doctor recommend high protein/low carb?
My doc says no to Protein shakes (once healed up from surgery) but does recommend the Protein first, then produce, then complex carbs if you have room approach. I'm to aim for 1000-1200 cals a day.
Note that this is NOT the same as low carb / high protein. Eating protein & produce for me comes out to about 50% carbs, 20% protein, 30% fat or thereabouts. (per TheDailyPlate, where I log my food). It varies from day to day, but my carb intake is always higher than my protein intake.
Produce -- veggies & fruit -- has plenty of carbohydrates. Some of the protein foods do too, like Beans & milk. (although some put Beans in the carb category to begin with, I suppose)
Just wanted to clear up that eating protein + produce is not even remotely close to a high protein / low carb diet like Atkins, unless you're skipping fruit and a lot of the veggies.

MerryHearted got a reaction from Jack in gaining weight back
There are bandsters who gain their weight back. Or some of it. And I'm not talking about people who have had to have their band removed due to erosion/slippage/whatever else.
Some causes for gaining weight back even while banded:
    1) Eating junk food instead of healthy food.< /p>
    2) liquid & soft calories: make a habit of things like regular venti Frappucinos and Large DQ Blizzards and you'll be gaining in no time. Or that 900 calorie Jamba juice "smoothie".
    3) Having your band loosened because of reflux or other issues - now you don't have full restriction anymore
    4) Grazing all day instead of eating 3 small meals and a planned snack.< /p>
    5) Going from regular exercise to no exercise but not cutting calories back to match
    6) Emotional eating -- tends to be high-calorie food at non-mealtimes, and unplanned.
    7) Drinking with meals, flushing food through the pouch making you able to eat more than you would otherwise.
Seriously, a couple years out you may find that you lose motivation; you've lost weight and are feeling much better, so old habits can start to creep in and pretty soon you're 10 lbs up, or 20.
Still, if you keep your band adjusted properly you won't gain back weight nearly as fast as without the band.
If my doctor were to say something like "everyone gains it back", I would ask for details though, because that's not what the band studies show. How many patients does she have that have the band? How long have they had it? ALL of them gained ALL of their weight back, even with the band still in? How about gastric bypass patients, does she have any of those? etc.
