  1. Hi Ya'll :)

So....I am having surgery soon (the next 4-6 weeks) and am trying to get my ducks....

um, I mean my drugs, in a row ;)

I take many prescription meds and now I will also need to add the Vitamins and supplements after surgery.

I was looking at chewable options but they all seem gross.

So I was thinking of going the liquid route.

Are there any brands you love? Any you hate?

What are your secrets to life post-op, with the constant need to take these supplements?

    Thanks bunches!

    Have a blesses day!

  2. Hi Rachel!

Glad to "meet" you! Wow, 70 pounds down is nothing to sneeze at, but I agree, I am often overwhelmed thinking of how much I need to loose. All we can do is follow our post op plans and stay focused on the end goal.

Even though my surgery is not until June I am hoping to keep getting encouragement here until I am wheeled into the operating room! Hang in there and keep your eyes on the prize, health and happiness!

  3. i was set on the sleeve but ultimately left it up to the dr since he is the expert...i had my meet and greet yesterday and he wants to do the by-pass....i have a significant amount of weight to loose and he thinks it will work better for me long term....plus he said the sleeve is still a new-ish procedure and they don't have enough data showing long term success rates...good luck with whatever you decide!

  4. LOL @ ;)well i didn't shave and it was fine there was no physical...just a meet and greet and a discussion about which surgery would be best for me...i was hoping for the sleeve but he wants to do the bypass and since he is the expert i will go with his choice...now i just have to wrap my head around that surgery and not the sleeve...and in other news @@Jonathan Blue you are a bit of a celebrity at dr k's office ;) sandy kept telling me to read your story, told her i had already bookmarked it!

  5. Whew! I sure am glad you're an idiot! ;) If not I would be screwed cuz my BMI is higher than yours!

I have my initial appointment with the surgeon on Monday so I am interested to hear how much he will want me to loose.

And just like anything worth doing, I think you need to be "all in" or you will not get the desired results...so I will do what they say, when they say and how they say....I may not like it, but I'm gonna do it!

  6. Ok, so my first appointment is Monday 11/3 and I am trying to get all my ducks in a row.

I have seen other threads about this first visit but I have one question no one addressed....

Does the first visit include a physical examination? Because if I don't have to shave my legs, I'm not gonna! :P

But seriously, what exactly does it include? I assume it is a meet and greet where you go over surgery options, go over medical history, etc. but is there any blood work done or a physical?

I just like to know what to expect...even thought I am sure there are going to be a LOT of surprises in the months ahead, I am trying to be as prepared as I can be.

Also, is there anything you had wished you had asked in the beginning that you didn't?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

(I am posting in 2 forums so my apologies if you have already seen this!)

  8. well i think i have the highest of the females....not that it's a competition...I WIN!

just kidding....it is kind of hard to imagine that my goal weight is some people's starting weight

the last time i weighed 300 i was 23 years old...20 years later and 150 pounds heavier and in dire need of knee replacement and back surgery...but not until i drop some pounds.

anyway, you are not alone...we are all here to lift each other up and be that voice in the wilderness when you just can't see yourself getting to where you need/want to be....

hang in there everyone and yeah us for moving towards a healthier us!

  9. I don't understand what clicking on avatar is Kiki,i,am new to this site... please help!!! Thanks!

i'm sorry i just saw this :( if you click my little picture (avatar), above my name, that will take you to my profile...there you can click the link that says my story on the left side of the page...hope that helps :)

  10. i am right there with you...esp if you are very heavy and have been your whole life, like me, it is terrifying to process that my entire life is changing...it's not that i am going into this expecting it to suck but the FACT of the matter is, it MIGHT....and i was to be prepared for that...and i also have panic disorder so i cannot, not stress...i do not fear the pain....the pain i am in on a daily basis is has me prepared for what may happen in regards to that...and just like everything, it is easy to say "oh, you'll be fine, you'll get used to everything" but each person is different... @@MauiGirl5555 we can do this, may suck a little, may suck a lot, but either way. we got this ;)

  11. ...perhaps he is afraid you will get skinny and leave him so he is trying to beat you to it?

my husband and i have had long talks about this...my husband loves big women, that's why he married me, well that and my stunning intellect, sharp wit and fierce self-esteem ;) but seriously, i was worried if he would still be attracted to me when i lost weight...he promises me he loves me, no matter the size...but i still wonder, when he grabs my ample bottom as i walk by, if he really would be ok...i have to trust that he will.

  12. food addicts unite...i have just begun the 6 month process and i am already freaking out about the food...i eat something now and think "i can't have this after surgery"...i shared this with my husband who said "well stop eating it now then"...lol, he is so funny  if i could do that, duh! i have begun cutting out things and will continue to do so that way maybe it won't be as hard when i HAVE to do it...but it sounds like i may not have a choice in the matter!

  13. sherripark:

those of us with more to loose will probably not get much recognition until it is a triple digit number. i have lost (and gained) 50, 60, 75 pounds in the past and it was rarely ever noticed, while my friend would loose 15 and get oohs and aahs until the cows came home. my husband always noticed but he also sees me naked ;) hang in there and know when someone does say something you can come back with "thank you and i am not done yet!"

  14. Hello everyone! I just wanted to pop in and introduce myself! If you care to know more about me or put a face to the name please go to my profile and click on "My Story" and "Gallery".

I am excited (and terrified  ) to be here. I hope we can help support each other on our journey towards greater health. I am a prayer so anytime you need some, let me know!

As those who are super sized we have a certain set of challenges that we will experience, as we go through the process of weight loss surgery, regardless of which type we have.

All together now, we CAN do this!

  15. i don't even have a DR picked out yet and i am freaking out about eating before/after surgery...i eat a cup of yogurt and think, "after surgery i will only be able to eat half of this" or i take a glorious swig of my coke and think "after surgery i can't even have this anymore"...i know i have got to STOP this thinking...my obsession with food is part of what got me to this point...so when i start to think of all that i am going to miss i remind myself of all that i am going to welcome into my life...and that helps me get out of my own head

  16. my given name is vicki, which is hard for most children to say...when my best friend's son started talking he called me kiki...around the same time i met my future husband and he started calling me kiki bear...eventually he dropped the "bear"...now he just calls me kiki and has since we were married in 2004 :)

  17. i am sure you have had bad days before, and you will again, you're human...you just gotta try and make them happen less and less i guess, but don't beat yourself up...maybe think back to all you have been through to get to where you are...help that give you the strength to get through the times you want something bad for you...and make sure you give yourself credit for what you ARE doing...45 minutes of exercise a day...that's great! and maybe try to increase your Water intake...i have heard when you hit a plateau that may help you get back on a losing trend....good luck and hang in there! :)

  18. i have been scouring these forums ALL DAY looking for an answer to that same question! i am over 450 (have not weighed myself for a while) and just want to find some people that can empathize. our struggle, though the same, is very different from those who don't have as much to loose. i look at some peoples BEGIN weights and i'm like "that's my GOAL weight"! i have just begun my journey, have not even been approved for surgery yet, but i would be happy to make this journey with you! as soon as i have fleshed out my story, or at least the cliff notes, i will send you a pm. :)
